    Thanks for your video! But I want to ask: does it need to unite ground wire from USB and ground wire from power supply for stable and secure work? Or maybe this connection is already done on the PCB?

    Hi! how can you convert data from sata to micro usb ,did you have any microcontroller to do this function??? You are asking about power supply which type of hdd you have did you have desktop hdd which i shown in video its run with 12v ,so you need to power it with external power source of 12v with more than 2 amp,else if you have laptop hdd which runs at 5v dc ,you can power with 5v power supply around 2amp ,if you are doing desktop hdd to usb it will be more complicated to do this function, vmcvamsi166@gmail.com if you want any idea mail me

    can we combine two SATA adapters ?, I have some 2.5 HDD laying around, selling them is not an option, so I want to combine them into one RAID arrangement or even as an external drive, but multiple external drives is too much clutter, I want a single unit with multiple HDD, online options are not trustworthy as all are imported ones and I can't claim warranty on them.

    Hallo VAM C, good video. I have a question for you. I have a motherboard with SATA II (300MB/s) and USB 2.0 (35MB/s) slot. I think that it is possible to get from motherboard SATA II connector an about USB 3.0 (300MB/s but not 400MB/s). I have installed a USB 3.0 expansion card on PCIe x1 1.0, but it gives 250MB/s. What do you think? Is it possible?

  • @vmcdiytech3681

    @vmcdiytech3681

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello claudio bisceglie ,yes the data transfer is low for usb 2.0 when compare to usb 3.0 ,as you told that you have inbuilt 2.0 slot in your motherboard and you attached 3.0 expansion card to that motherboard but its not giving full speed of data transfer because your processor capability is low and its not stable for such a speed data transmission if you do like that very soon your motherboard becomes over loaded and get hang and over heated so don't pressure your motherboard to do work with much speed, it may damage soon

    The 3.5" hard drive is label 12v and 5 v , how you powered it with 12v only ?

  • @vmcdiytech3681

    @vmcdiytech3681

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hello my friend, thanks for your comment, the 3.5 hard drive is lable as 12v and 5v you are right ,since 12v is supply from 12v adapter (power supply) and 5v is supply from usb which is connected to laptop, since both 5v and 12v ground (negative (-)) is joint together its works good. (if you are new to electronics please don't try this )

  • @danielmcmaster1392

    @danielmcmaster1392

    3 жыл бұрын

    The hard part about this is why he powered it with 12v at all, as far as im aware, any hdd with a standard 22 pin sata connection can run on 5v at less than 1A, if you look at the pdf on wd website, start up requires 2.5W and the 3TB is the most power hungry at 8.0W max. The 8TB surprisingly is only 5.4W and usb2.0 can do 5W, considering usb3.0 can do up to 5V 3A for 15W or up to 9.75V at 1.6A or about that, 3.1 gen2 is like 65W. This video is only 3 months old, you could run a raid10 off a type-c and people do, but they use things like the crucial 500GB m.2 nvme drives on a raid card and max out the 10Gbps data rate of a type-c by a good margin, that drive there is cheaper I'll definitely not argue that but it ways a ton and is not something I'd want to lug around on top of what a laptop already burdens you with and the performance in a word "sucks" plus by adding a 12V power supply your adding another load to your laptop bag and necessitating a power point when the newer portable chargers that most people still have for phone emergency situations are insane enough to charge not only your phone but power a number of drives, Oh and the laptop those drives are connected to. Man, I really appreciate the D.I.Y attitude, thats what got me to this video but honestly a usb to sata converter, even type-c is like $8 if you don't buy it from a petrol station and if your still using a spinning drive, your not worried about the bandwidth of your connection, without at least a little 2.5 sata ssd caching that old school beast, your not gonna not gonna be break any fps records, sequential write from its cache would barely rattle usb2.0 and there's a whopping 32MB for it to work from. If you really need that much storage, I honestly can't think of a reason with clouds and hotspots, but if you do, firecuda hdd with m.2 slot preinstalled and configured to use an m.2 smart cache is about $500 and a m.2 if you use your fingers and your googling abilities is 100. Its about 4 times what that drive costs but thats what it costs to get a file before your OS is no longer supported these days, or you can get a 500GB m.2 and a case for about $130 and have 2GBps in your shirt pocket, I put mine on a keyring and I can empty and refill that thing in a few minutes before I go out if I ever had too but I don't, I mainly use it for my phone, it's full of apk files plus exe files that I'm always having to install on someone's computer because they are still scratching their heads and its still not managing to bring up the answer they need the way Google has a habit of doing. You could probably get a free m.2 if you didn't mind a bit of muck around, Aliexpress have x79 motherboard packages that come with a pair of xeon CPUs, a bit of RAM and an m.2, keep the drive, Ebay the rest and you might even make a buck or screw it to a wall with that wd drive and have a server that can also throw about a million cores at any data crunching thats keeping you from gaming on your awesome new m.2. Also, I'm actually trying to do the opposite of what you did, i bought a 4TB Toshiba just to fill with compressed crap that I'll probably never use again but when I cracked it open to chuck it on sata so its not hanging around and windows won't argue with me so much and I discovered that Toshiba the cheaky buggers have realised that they are selling external devices cheaper because the market is greater but losing the more profitable sales for people want to add size to a fast drive and they went and put a usb 3.0 micro b of all bloody things directly on the pcb. Everybody makes usb to sata, nobody makes sata to usb, i have the wiring pinouts for both but I am not even close to adapting the pcb design to reverse the idea or i would just heat gun it off and daughterboard a sata on. If you figure that out, I will be a very interested man!
