Diving in the Marlborough Sounds Catching Crayfish and Blue Moki

This week we've been staying at Tasmans parents house in the Queen Charlotte Sound, where Tasman grew up. Tune in over the next few weeks for a bit of diving, fishing, roar hunting, and a cheeky Arapawa Island circumnavigation chucked in for good measure.
This vid is just a quick one of us diving one evening, since we're fast running outta time for editing everything before our main roar trip in the canterbury hills in a few days!
Enjoy!

Cheers mate! The sounds are awesome, try a little further out the northern entrance, and try any depth between 1 to 25m as they vary a lot in depth depending on the time of year.

What's it like generally speaking diving Marlborough sounds? Is it all rocky kina barrens? Not much seaweed? Looks murky, I kinda thought the water was cleaner than that up there

Depends where you go, within the sounds there's not a whole lot of seaweed, but lately it seems to be bouncing back a bit. We reckon could be something to do with the blue cod restrictions and gas prices, since we've seen a bit of a blue cod population explosion, and blue cod love kina, potentially increasing the amount of weed, but who knows 😂. Yeah there's a fair bit of sediment but pick a calm day after a southerly in the northern entrance and she'll be nice and clear 👌

Oh, the wriggly raisin trick. Tas must have edited out the bucket load of bait fish! Fake it until you make it. Though maybe you did invent a new sport, Tahr hunting from a boat... you shoot em, Tas collects them when fall from the cliff into the water.... assumes you'd remember to bring bullets!
