This is exactly right. I'm looking at it as a diver but thinking like a physicist. They maintain a smoother rotational energy than anyone else. Their rotation speed stays very consistent, while others speed up and slow down the rotation, ending up in over or under rotation. Some very badly. They also have a much more vertical dive arc from the board. You could see their coach refer to that with his hand. They leave the board more vertical, travel away less and enter more vertical than others. Great athletes and amazing coaches.

they only trained as pair after the china olympic trial after they selected the top 3 divers. they also won gold and silver in 3m individual.

it was their first time performed as pair. it was Wang's first and probably her last Olympic. Shi won gold with 3 different partner in 3m synchro. it's more than likely Shi's last Olympic as well.

@@elenagabrys4383 It is called a fulcrum. It makes the board either more bouncy or less bouncy depending on what way you turn it :) the highest execution you can score is a 10 :)

one tiny mistake cost them the gold in men's 10m synchro.

Thank you so much for this video. I have to say that the male sounding commentator was very distracting to me. There was too much commentary and it made it hard to appreciate the dives as I also wanted to hear the prep for the dive.

Can someone explain to me why Jennifer Abel (probably the best Canadian diver) keeps getting lower scores than her partner Citrini Beaulieu? For example on this dive @38:08 it seems that she did just as good of a dive if not better (and with less splash) but she keeps getting lower scores than her partner. The same happened with their previous dive.

While I might be missing something on this, I don't see where you see individual scores. They are being scored in synchronization and execution as a whole team. It never gives us a score for one person over the other.

@@maya778 Incorrect. Synchronisation is of course judged for the team (since you can hardly judge that for a single athlete, hehe), but Execution is judged separately, 3 judges for each athlete. So maybe the trio judging Abel was tougher than their three colleagues.

They have a lot of unfair judgements in the men aerobics competition too... To me, they don’t have Olympics spirit ! You can’t be unfair to any hard work athletes just because of their country or any political parties!

It said it in the beginning that because Japan was the host country they automatically qualified for the finals.

Saying that is not okay, not only is it probably muscle she obviously worked hard enough that she made it to finals at the Olympics-see if you can do that.

Some are not looking, lithe, or lean for the little that they wear as sporting outfit!:) Not a fan. But read this with interest: (Singer) Pink has offered to pay a fine (about AU$2400) served to the Norwegian *Women Beach Handball Team after they defied sexist uniform* LOL! How come coaches/sports officials don't address these type of 'issues' beforehand - so much time to tweak unnecessary 'policies?'

While I support Pink and everyone else that has to do with it. I do want to know what would be okay for the divers to wear it you feel this way, this outfit isn't something that is sexist or defiling anyone by any way. In fact it is to reduce drag and take a look at the males, their outfits use even less material and could be considered the same way.
