Equity and Diversity is based off Critical race theory and Social Justice Theory - neither is based in research. They are theories that are based of personal experience and political ideas. The idea of "justice" is rooted in well researched philosophy and linked to internal rationalisation but "Social" justice takes the individual responsibility and replaces it with whatever social/political feelings within society at any given time. True justice is an internal construct. Most companies, universities, schools have OUTSOURCED these racist programmes to companies who are politically motivated or earning money of Equity and Diversity Programmes. The minute you start throwing statistics about in terms of inclusivity, you are being RACIST. You do not have the RIGHT to be included because of your race. You earn your place because or your skills, experience. It is not only BLACK people that should have the right to bring, "their authentic selves" to work! Ask any white person who comes to work and emotionally manipulated, threatened and abusively put through these programmes. Soon these organizations will feel the shame of going down these routes to please the single minded people who believe they are victims and have a right to privilege based off race. What rights do white people today have that Black people don't? In my opinion making a lot of noise and threatening to expose someone as racist to climb the ladder has a deep flaw : self-esteem does not strengthen off the back of . These "personal minded" pursuits propel the individual but let down the group. Just look how self-entitled and victim minded many black people have become since these programmes have taken off. Look how much worse race relations have become. We should look beyond race at the human being. But of course these racist/political programmes suggest that "structural bias" and "unconscious bias" can not be measured but exist because it suits their weak claims not to be challenged. Suddenly, the statistics they throw about are not needed! They reject "racial blindness" as a term because they WANT to focus on race rather than the person/human. This whole POLITICAL movement has entered schools, universities, companies and has been made possible by ABUSIVELY pushing the buttons (white guilt) of people who have NO ADVANTAGES to them today and people who have been difunctionally made to feel responsible for injustices they were not part of. "No white man is a slave owner in America today and no black man is picking cotton". This gravy train is going to derail soon!

"You guys" or "Y'all" is an expression that is part of popular culture that has been used to identify a group of people of both men and women. Most people know that, and intention does count. I really doubt the interviewer was trying to exclude the women in the room by saying "you guys" - it's a common phrase - especially so in the northern states. Intention does matter. If someone is so easily offended that that phrase would bother them, it seems that is their issue to work on.

KSA or DIE. If you’re a government worker or a veteran that has applied for a government job your qualifications are based upon KSA = Knowledge, Skills, Ability. DIE = Diversity, Inclusion, Equity (Equity is not the same as Equality) does nothing to prove an individual’s Knowledge, Skills and Ability to do the job. If a company feels compelled to add a DIE hiring manager or change their company logo to rainbow colors to pander to the LGBTQ group or DIE group, it’s perceived as patronizing and thus that company may have had prior discriminatory hiring practices. Bottom line…any public or private company that discriminates against a person’s race, sexual orientation, political affiliation, economic status or religion is in violation of State and Federal employment laws. KSA or DIE.

Thanks for sharing your viewpoint. I agree, a person shouldn't be hired solely based on an element of diversity. I also believe companies can benefit from casting a wider recruiting net. Including more qualified diverse candidates in the hiring process can help the most qualified candidates be identified. If the most qualified candidate happens to be an Asian female, yet the company only recruits from schools or organizations that don't have diverse talent offerings, the company is at a disadvantage.

@OP The candidate obviously needs to have the minimum qualifications🤡 It’s fascinating that certain people are bothered by diversity but when their own group is promoted based on favoritism or nepotism (WITHOUT) minimum qualifications it’s never an issue.

This is great on the surface but if you really want equal opportunity, it’s still supposed to be based on merits, talent, skills, and experience per se before anything else and not pushing someone to be in for the sake of diversity. Otherwise, it would just be a patronising form of recruitment.

Interesting, I work at a company which mainly employs Males, this is due to the work being connected to construction and 99.9% of workers in that field are men, there are a number of reasons for this, it is a job that involves strength for lifting heavy objects, which most females would not possess, and also most females would not want to be employed in such a field. I personally know some Women who have tried to get an apprenticeship in Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrician, Plastering etc, and every one had dropped out. There was one LGBT+ candidate who applied for a job as a carpenter, and they correctly answered all of the interview questions and they correctly carried out the practical skills test, however they did not get the job, as it was deemed by the senior interviewer that this person would have been a destabilizing influence on the rest of the workers, and would simply not fit in.

  • @r.lew7424

Hi Jet. For inclusion to be effective, it has to be supported and sponsored by senior leaders. Inclusion has to become part of the fabric of the company's culture. It's a tough battle of those leading a company fail to understand the value of inclusion. In your case, women can bring very unique perspectives to a job site. We built a new headquarters recently and with input from women we gained a better understanding of specific needs women have at work. Including different perspectives can ignite innovation, retention and so much more.

I'd be interested to know why these women dropped out. Was it the environment? The work load? Complexity? For the one person who was deemed not to fit in, I would like men to consider the likelihood that women can offer much more than perspective. Another commenter mentioned KSA. Women tend to arrive on-scene with KSA. And, contrary to the gentleman being interviewed, diversity is more visible than invisible. This is a fact of life. Yes, we go deeper to learn of the extent of one's diversity, but when most hear the word, they think of physical difference.

  • @andyiswonderful

I don't know any women that would want a job in construction, much less be able to do the job physically. You provide one anecdote about an LGBT person not getting the job, and heavily imply that it was due to prejudice. Frankly, you are unqualified to make such a judgment.

@@andyiswonderful I'm an LGBT person, stop trying to hide behind me. You and others supporting DEI are stating that a physically demanding job that someone with a female body is likely to have significant trouble with is not a reason to hire someone that can do it better, but to change the job in order to hire them for the sake of hiring them. Not to improve an organization, not to solve a specific problem, but because you didn't have that box checked. I'll start thinking your arguments aren't in bad faith the moment DEI sees an all black, or all female, board or workforce and not celebrate it but say, "Hey, you need to hire some white people for diversity". Then I'll know you're genuine. But you're not.
