Great job explaining the details around the linear drain. That looks very critical to set right. Temporarily installing small pieces of drywall to get the correct sizing for the ditra heat was very cool.

thank you, that linear drain is awesome but installation is very tricky. The first step is framing and then measuring total distance with Kerdi-Board installed. This is important with a linear drain on the entry. Our Schluter rep was invaluable and fantastic during the installation. We’re very excited to post the next several videos

Great video. However I'm not clear on how you "water proofed" the shower pan prior to installing the Ditra-heat. Did you tape the wall to Schluter pan joint? Thanks-keep the videos coming!

Great video. Tons of details. Not sure what anyone would pay money to heat a shower floor when the hot water will do that before you can take your robe off. But still a great video. You mentioned putting 8.5 quarts in the All Set. The range on my bag says 5.5-6.5. Can you run it that thin? I sometimes like it a little thinner.

I have the same question as Rob Gunther.. I have a shower that is slightly longer than the the available pan size. I have some Deck Mud ready to go to "finish" everything out but - and I am not heating the shower area. I thought Kerdi Membrane would be the answer but I don't need an entire roll of the stuff. I suppose I could overlap Kerdi band (its about a 7 1/2" span) but that's not a great answer either. I had intended after all the Schluter was up and I was sure everything was square/level and solid to hit it with Ardex 8+9 just to sleep better (shower is upstairs)... would it be sufficient to water proof the mud and more importantly follow Schluter guidelines?

Schluter won’t recognize mixing their system with other approaches. I’ve used a roll on liquid membrane to waterproof mud beds. Check out Mapei’s and Laticrete’s liquid membranes. You’ll have to check the Arden specs wether they allow you to use it as a waterproof membrane on a shower bed. I know laticrete does.

What would you use to seal the mortar bed if your not using ditra heat? would you use the waterproof membrane and overlap the schluter shower pan 2 inches with non modified thin set?

@Rob Guthner : I was thinking along the same lines. The mortar bed in this shower is NOT waterproofed. I would have thought they should have tied the wall into the shower pan using the waterproof membrane. Perhaps they show it in a subsequent video, but if not and they leave this shower like it is, water is going straight through the tile grout, through the mortar bed and into that subfloor; 100%.

How long did you let the dry pack mortar cure before laying thinset on top?

Im confused. The small piece of Ditra heat is butted against the larger piece of Ditra heat that runs into the shower? Why not just use the larger piece to go on top of the linear drain? Maybe im just missing something. BTW love the vids!

we worked with Schluter and the NEC on this project. Plus the system is GFCI protected.

Yeah I think in the shower is not somewhere I want 120/240 power. Call me crazy but I just turn the hot water on. Heat mats useful outside of the shower though.
