Just a quick tip, unless you know you've cleaned and flushed your sprayer out super thoroughly when using round-up type chemicals, you might want a separate sprayer just for grass and weed killers especially if spraying garden veggies. That stuff can leave minute residual amounts that could burn off or contaminate your good plants. This isn't just coming from me but also numerous big names in lawn care you tubers. I myself use a 30gal tow behind for harsher weed killer and then a 40gal 3point sprayer for lawn and garden fertilizing. Just for spot spraying I use a 2gal hand pump for roundup and then 2,4D in the tow behind for blanket spraying. You'd also want to scrub your wheels off good if making lots of rounds in the area of using round-up or it'll leave nice tracks in lawn to repair...even after it was dry and then driving onto dewy grass. Ask me how I know.

A good tip for using the roundup is to add dish soap to the mixture. That helps it stick to the leafy part of the plant better. More effective at killing the weed. Otherwise it drips off and the kill area is less effective. Doesn't matter on brand of dishsoap. Just make sure you add it after otherwise you'll get suds. Great info on the sprayer. Great channel, love all the info.

We use the FIMCO 15 gallon series on our ATV for the same purpose on our 20 acres. Won't carry as much liquid, but more maneuverable and more fun to drive! 👍

Good tip for spraying large areas is to use spray pattern indicator. Its called lazer and you can buy it where you get your other materials. It leaves a blue color where you have sprayed so you can see exactly where you sprayed. It fades really quickly. I use it whenever i do large areas and it really eliminates waste. Nice piece of equipment btw. Looks like your hand nozzle tip needs to be tightened. You are using much more material than needed. Thanks again brother!

May be a bit off topic but I was wondering about all I've read regarding the insidious & poisonous nature of Round Up. I've heard this glysophate chemical is affecting ground water worldwide. Do any of you know of purported safer alternative chemicals or am I off base with such a concern?

Not off base at all. The problem I've found is nothing seems to work as well. Vinegar and salt seems to just burn them, same with bleach.

It’s not off topic. The question is what the long term effects of spraying herbicides will be. There are alternatives to roundup that may have less impact than it. However at this point of time I’m not going to spray herbicides on my place.

@@seanwahl1000 because people don't follow the directions on the label. It's easier to blame the product than to take personal responsibility.

I would attach a piece of PVC to the front-end loader on each side that matches the spray width behind the tractor. Then you know how wide the spray pattern is without having to turn around. If that doesn't make sense, tell me and I'll try to explain better.

Quick suggestion: Glyphosate is a contact herbicide as is 24D. Use a fan pattern on the wand when spraying to get the most coverage for your money. Use the stream pattern only for long range reach.

I would use a respirator before I open the container. That stuff is POISON and should be treated as such. I can see the usefulness of that sprayer. Big land big weeds! Good job!

Thanks for sharing this video. Just one thing. If you mow that tall grass you should wait a week or so before you spray because the herbicides only work on activity growing plants.

As a former lawn care business owner I have to agree about a secondary spray unit for round up products. Early on in my career a “friend/neighbor” asked to use my spray unit to kill some weeds in his lawn; didn’t tell me that he used roundup. Even after I rinsed out the residual, and I used 2,4-D I killed off my first lawn on a Monday morning. Also - safety sally - you should really be using gloves and long sleeve shirts/ pants while mixing. Chronic toxicity can be a real issue for people! Looking forward to getting my tractor at the end of summer!!

I agree with you on boom-less VS boom. I switched from the boom-less two tip (which had a 32’ spray width) to the seven nozzle boom ( which gives me a 14’ accurate spray width). I can now accurately spray a field edge without killing the crops in the next field. I also attached an aluminum rod to the front of my ranger as an edge guide. Calibrating the sprayer saves time and money. Simple 1/8 acre calibration (water spray width in feet ÷ into 5445 Sq. ft. (1/8 ac) gives you your travel distance. Time that travel distance. Use that time to collect fluid from each nozzle. That total amount of fluid in ounces (ex 10 oz. total) means you use 10 gallons per acre. Food plot kill you want to spray 2 quarts Glyphosate per acre.

I bought a 31 gal NorthStar sprayer to do exactly this same thing. Living on five acres doesn’t make for quick lawn maintenance. I spray gly around the perimeter of my fences so that I don’t have to spend an extra 45 mins or so on trimming. Spraying selective and non selective herbicides myself, saves me more than a couple of thousand dollars a year.

Round up works on green plants, if you cut you have to wait till it comes up to spray. Spray first then wait till die off,then disc or plant. Rup has no carry over, most weed killers do.

Definitely worth the time to calibrate your sprayer. I found that at full speed in medium range on my Kubota at 2000 rpm, I spray 20 gallons per acre. 5.5 gal/min electric pump and 10 foot boom.

To get an accurate speed, I mounted my GPS bike computer on the tractor! Another interesting attachment I use is the Ag Spray "Turf Foam Marker". It isn't cheap at $360 but it works well. On another note, if you want to be extra careful when switching chemicals, Tractor Supply (and probably others) sells "Spray Tank Cleaner" to help flushing.

Adding a tank mixed preemergent product with the RoundUp would get you well down the road to a one and done on the fence line weed/grass problem.

You were talking about I when it hits a fence or something it can be a little annoying to have to get off the tractor and open the boom again. There’s a pretty easy solution I think. The springs that are on there hold the boom open or in the storage are closed position. You still want the boom to be able to move if you drag it into a fence post but you don’t want it to close forcing you to get off the tractor to open it up again. I’m thinking if you drill a hole in the frame About right in the center you could probably get a bungee cord or another spring that goes from the frame to the open boom arm. That was still have enough flex to let it go around a post or a rock but you would have a bungee cord on there basically pulling it back in the extended position again. When you’re done using it and go to put it up just take the bungee cord off so the boom springs hold it in the closed position, then when you go to use it and you extend the boom just put the spring/bungee cord from the frame back towards the middle of the boom and it should allow the boom to flex and reopen after flexing. That’s the cheapest way, another option would be to weld a little tab or bar and the frame stick out a few inches to mount that bungee or spring too but I would definitely try it to the frame first and my guess is that will probably work pretty well unless you really push the boom all the way back far. If you really want to go extreme get a spring with long extensions, kind of like those flexible ones that you would use on a D Thatcher and mount it to the boom itself at the joint and put a little tab on there so you can lock it in the open position, that would still give you some spring and flexibility in case you hit some thing but would always try to keep it in the open position, but personally I think just drilling a hole in the frame and using a bungee cord would work. 🤔

You can use a colorant to mark spray pattern and increase visibility, but I would not recommend it, unless you like ground up smurfs on your lawn and in your tank.

Hey you can buy some scarecrow (s) not not the stuffed kind on a stick, theses are water sprayers that work on 9 volt batteries and hook to the current water source. They have a infared beam that if broken by motion it sets off a burst of water, and it also rotates. Just a thought for the garden. I use them all the time in my pond applications and they work awesome!!

That puts out a good pressure pattern, pto looks to be a better option than electric pump.

Tractor supply or Site one makes a very good cleaning powder that will clean and neutralize your chem sets between tanks, they just measure mix and spray out.

I just went to your website to checkout the sprayers you have but when I queried sprayers it says no results.

I have a spreadsheet I made that you can input spray width, pump gpm, tank size, ground speed, desired quarts/acre and it will tell you how much of everything to add, how long it will take, how many times you'll need to refill your tank how much solution and product you'll use. I need to convert it into a webpage and post it because every time I see someone asking how much gly should I put in my 30 gallon tank I cringe a little. Like asking how long should a rope be.

All of these formulas are available online and herbicide books are available. Based on what I’ve read it doesn’t really matter how much water you apply per acre as long as you’re in the ballpark of 10-20 gallons, just add the recommended dose of glyphosate per acre.

My wife would slam my head off if i were to use such chemical on the farm lol. But thats nice :)

I picked up an Agrifab 40 gallon one last year and it has an electric pump on it. I wired in a rear power point with a switch on the dash and it seems to work well. I haven't used the sprayer much yet but like you I am going to get into a deer plot. I used it to fertilize my cedar trees I planted.

Like my LX3310 but the smell from the exhaust is not good. Yes it has done the region a few times already.

Roundup inhibits an enzyme which plants use to break down certain amino acids. It is rapidly absorbed through the plants leaves but can take several days for the effects to really show. Cutting plants prior to applying glyphosate is a waste of glyphosate. The only reason you would spray/cut/spray is if your initial application didn’t get sufficient coverage. Mix to the correct spec and apply it per the label specs. Over applying does nothing but cost you money and introduce unnecessary chemicals to the environment. As for the hysteria around glyphosate the media gets paid to sell stories not to educate and inform the public. They lead with headlines like “study finds glyphosate in urine” it doesn’t mention that it found 1 ten billionth of a gram. That is the equivalent of 4 drops of glyphosate from a pipet added to an Olympic swimming pool. Fun fact, vinegar is almost twice as poisonous as glyphosate when comparing the LD50 of both chemicals.

Mowing ahead of time can be beneficial so you get better coverage on the shorter weeds, you just have to wait a bit for them to recover and start growing again before spraying. Stressed plants don’t absorb as well.

Look up Ed spinazzola he was the head QDM of Michigan his book has all the tricks,farmer, engineer,hunter.

A sprayer would be on my essential list for tractor attachments.

the price of Glyphosate is insane now. 100+ a gallon, used to get for 35$

The commercial grade round up is over $300 for 2.5 gallons at my local fleet farm, I’d definitely look into off brand glyphosate

Unfortunately every place selling herbicide has jumped, almost as bad as fertilizer. It has gotten very bad. There are no "cheap" places left.

While I would have loved to have all the equipment you sell when I was a chore list kid on a farm growing up, I have to believe I would have been weak from lack of work instead of being, well I don't want to brag. Another thought is the haphazardness of spraying like that. Those weeds will die in the winter, you could mow or mulch. You could use illegals and their kids with hand tools. Chemicals. Maybe the farm kids these days can still play ball. 3 arms and legs is probably an advantage.
