Distorted Reality: Early Signs of Psychosis

The early signs of psychosis can scare the person experiencing them, and those who love them. But getting help as early as possible can make a big difference.
U-M Dept. of Psychiatry expert Dr. Stephan Taylor joined us and answered audience questions in this live Q&A about what to do if you or someone you know can see, hear or perceive things that aren't really there, or experiences symptoms of paranoia.
This in-depth article describes symptoms, steps to take, and more: michmed.org/bqkO4
He leads the team at the Program for Risk Evaluation and Prevention (PREP) Early Psychosis Clinic, which provides clinical care, performs research and trains clinicians on early recognition and treatment of psychosis and related disorders. (Also sometimes called prodromal or attenuated psychosis syndrome.)

Who cared about a brilliant student on campus falling behind and ending up on streets due to psychosis?the student who never did drugs or alcohol. Who sailed thru osychosis yet graduated and ended up in streets in Ann arbor. No one on Umich campus cared to groom that student back into grad school. My first hand experience😢.

Thank you for this information. I have bipolar and have had episodes of psychosis through my 20s. Now that I am 37 I have started to feel the impact of my illness and wondering if I can continue to sustain working. Everyday stress is really difficult to handle. A couple days ago I realised I am experiencing early psychotic symptoms that have been so distressing. This video helped me understand that now is the time to get to my doctor.

Yeah I've had two ex-boyfriends (two separate relationships/times) that are what I call "open". Then the devastating occurs, where I am accused of conspiring or that I'm communicating with men ghosta (yes on all levels). So hurtful, as they became dangerously angry and with, and depicting , me as being some kind of G*dless wh*re. Hard to tell what's what. In turn, nullifies as well as robbed of the good times and positive aspects to their tragically beautiful beings and my true fidelity. I'm grateful you asked the question. YeahI think it's relative.

Support for professionals as well and more training where how to treat people and family structures are concerned, too. Maybe internal experts to help guide workers in the legal system and, all of its categories. It keeps the study directly within its own realms, public and professional.

Many places in the world use communication instead of medication. People seem to recover more fully & regain their lives. See Open Dialogue. Soteria House. Psychosis is part of life. But that cannot be sold like meds can. See also Trieste in Italy...the US, UK, Australia are all behind the times compared to places such as Scandinavia & Italy. Trauma informed model of care is more helpful than doping people up long term.

I think an anonymous not to mention more openness in general professionally and hotline type options when it comes to being both a perp and a victim is a good idea. Perps can already be frustrated or irritated etc. enough and coercing with "authority" and some therefore victims could benefit from being able to access consequence free support. Plus, this can be used to further study both ends of a core issue for humans.

That is dangerous, go for a power of Attorney in that case, and talk serious with the ill one that they must try to find a way to work for improvement /health/ good habits from inside. Of course some are honest, but many not, watch the vids on theft, neglct , destituting their Principals. And from me they have taken all means of survival and living, although there is no easonm except unlawful will of thirs to have me in an institution, maybe to evade the right of persoanl assistence, (aspergers, bad anchylosing spondylitis and CPTSD). I applied for power of attorney (Good Man in Swedish) and he stole my money, legal rights, destroyed my honour bu bad talk and lies in my papers, and firstly, my home was destroyed, stolen. And I am being withheld all societal help , health-care, can't go to dentist since 14 years , without an P assistent and a safe, calm home of my own. guardianship is the step before execution I was told. oNE CEASES TO BE SEEN AS A HUMAN BEING WITH FREEDOM AND agency. Get him organic, health food with whole, glutenfree grains, lots of boiled vegs, a bot of protein to each meal, sardines /meat. stop all psychosis-inducing stuffs and drinks (coffee, alcohol, drugs) Schz is a metabolic problem, : stóp gluten, dairy, artificial stuffs. Smoking of course, if possible. Give Omega 3, Ca, Mg, Se and Zn, as well as real, pure Niacin. (nOT Niacinamid, theredness-causing one. Start lower dose so he doesn't freak out.MAybe some more I don't recall for sure if there is some more. Kelp, B-complex, - best is to te their test for certain ndividual analysis and program. Listen to alternative psychiatrists here on YT , see if your friend can see one of them for real, helpful effective treatment. Orthomolecular treatment doesn't give permanent healing, and not as thorough, though good. I think all improvment is worthwhile. Do you have time to help him with Nutritional Balanciong Scienceprogram: do. AT leats listen to Dr L. Wilson. com websie, with 1500 articles on all sorts of diseases , Schizophrenia/psychosis, and its genesis, and cure. That is, it is a long, slow, careful, natural and congenial way/science.And hear free some lectures and interviews. Even if his diagnosis is not the headlin, you will still get the idea of how the program and healing works. The cruxes will be probably: An assistent, 2.) His interest, will, compliance, motivation. The diet is very important though, as well as an anti-psychotic lifestyle. As you understand, the beginning will be the most difficult and demanding part, trying sth new. it includes ususally a Copper imbalance and toxicity. Take heart and good luck! Psychosis can probably go before full healing, which takes years. But as he improves and gets stronger, he will be able to do the full protocol himself. And one gets motivated when sensing the improvements. I found it by seeking on YT sth like Healing by Nutrition therapy. Got a young, healed client of his, lecturing outdoors, very good.

I do have some questions. I have a daughter who believes that she is not my daughter, that she has a medial condition that is life threatening, such as she states that she has pancreatic cancer, have had a liver transplant, and she is telling others that I kidnapped her at the age of 4 and I adopted her because her parents were killed in a car accident. She also believes that her children of which were removed by Child Services ( Due to substance and alcohol abuse ). She was high into Meth, Acid and other drugs for many years. ( She states that she had never been arrested and that she never drank or did drugs). I am confused on what she actually has going on. I cannot get her help because she is over 18. She does not recognize having a problem. Remember she states also that my blood does not run through her veins and that none of my family are related to her. PLEASE HELP ME I have one other thing to ask. What if the person does not realize that they are inflicting harm to themselves, but believe what they do is for the good, such as eating or ingesting something that is in fact toxic to consume?

Sadly your daughter sounds like most serious drug addicts I've encountered. Whatever her initial problems were the drugs just amplify the issues. As difficult as it seems there is no use in taking anything she says or does personal. Delusions are a hall mark of drug abuse. The comment above by FeFe is good advice for possible solutions to be found. Good luck to you & stay strong. 💗

Had a serious accident in my early 20's, 50 now... I was diagnosed with permanent memory loss, amnesia and PTSD. I was told I would most likely end up with Alzheimer's and maybe earlier than average... The world was always 'off' to me. Lately, I've been having issues with things being there and then NOT being there.. At work I would look for an item in our warehouse. I would look EVERYWHERE and not find it.. A co-worker double checks and says there are 200 of them right there in plain site. There's NO WAY, I would miss them! They were not there! Other times, I see things literally different. I was playing a game with my cousin and people watching.. I called out a guy with a 'Yellowstone' shirt.. I was pointing at the only man around and she couldn't see him! I was saying the 'YELLOWSTONE" shirt right in front of us!! She said he was wearing a motorcycle club jacket and nothing on him said Yellowstone. I couldn't figure out what the hell was happening. She thought I was messing with her and vice versa... Is this Alzheimers? Is this why people see Julia when they are really talking to Tonya??? Is this the beginning??
