Distinguished Alumni Award 2024 | Wilbert Van Dyk

For over forty years, Wilbert (Bill) Van Dyk has tirelessly served the Christian Reformed Church as a pastor and administrator, serving at three churches and Calvin Seminary over the course of a forty-year career.
Born in April 1930 in New Jersey, Bill attended Christian schools for his entire educational career. At the age of sixteen, on the way home from a youth convention in Grand Rapids, Bill felt God’s call to go into pastoral ministry.
Bill began his studies at Calvin College in 1948, graduating in 1952. He continued his education at Calvin Theological Seminary, graduating in 1955 and again in 1976. The theological and practical training Bill received wouldn’t be fully put into practice until he began his ministry. Bill was ordained to ministry in the Christian Reformed Church in September 1955. Over the next forty years, Bill would serve at churches in Illinois, Florida, and Michigan before returning to Calvin Seminary to serve as Academic Dean.
From 1986-1995, Bill further employed his administrative skills as academic dean of Calvin Seminary, providing structure, organization, and systems to the academic operations of the seminary. Bill retired in 1995.
The Distinguished Alumni Award is given annually to recipients who have brought unusual credit to their alma mater by their distinction in Christian ministry.
