Dissertation Writing Vlog 📚 Reviewing a Messy First Draft

After you've written a first draft, what is your next step?
For me, it's taking a view days away from the project to clear my head - and then jumping back in and starting to fix all the many, many problems I know I'll find.
In today's vlog, I read through the first draft of a chapter and start organizing a revision plan, and ramble on a little bit about some of the literature I'm working with in this chapter, like Othello and a 1605 masque called The Masque of Blackness in which the queen performed.

I just want to say I’m so glad you are on KZread!! You were one of my favorite tiktok creators, and I’ve really missed your content since I deleted the app a year + ago. Your excitement about literature and higher academia is so inspiring. PS. Thank you for a great video! I’d never heard of mask/masque plays before :)

I'm so glad you came across my KZread! I'm having fun branching out here instead of just tiktok, feels like these longer videos give me even more space to talk to people about all the literature and academia things I love :)

Thanks! I've been trying to do some fiction writing lately as well, and figure out which parts of my academic writing habits can be applied to that, it's fun!

@@GlutenbergBible it is. I’ve always love research and that’s probably the best part of the writing process. Anything from Astronomy, spirituality, mythology all the way to real world history. Of course I have to be careful because I can get sucked into endless research lol.

Geez your videos make me want to get PhD. I got a masters in English 25 years ago lol. I mean I could just read books for free too, but there’s something appealing about the process that I still miss I guess

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the Jane Eyre video - I was worried it was so long that no one would watch it, but once I started talking about Jane Eyre I just couldn't seem to contain myself! :)

We are too human now to zombify. Thy morning bedhead like tiaras glint, but servitude allows a comfy Life. When work has ended, night too quick begins. John Waterhouse’s women weren’t cashiers. They in their paintings lived and thought and breathed; Cleopatra pouts as mermaids wring their hair- -you do this at a register at least. Too much romance within thy soul exits to scout for flowers in a shopping mall. Who knew the rose was better when handpicked? with hair empowered out in cursive sprawls. May Bezos like Emperor Nero sulk when human beings refuse to slave themselves
