1977. My husband was teaching a summer session at our community college. He came home one day saying that his students were recommending he go see this movie that was showing in Hollywood. I had seen the trailer - bunch of no-name actors- and wasn't interested but HEY, a day out so OK. We stood in line and I saw Alec Guiness on the poster and thought, "Well, this might not be too bad." We were at a theater with sensaround and heard the rebel ship go over us in perfect sync with the screen, and then the Imperial ship behind it. The theater shook and I was hooked. Also not a top level geek, but did raise two kids to be huge fans and just bought my grandson what he wanted for his 6th birthday, the Falcon 25th Lego set. Favorite memory of fandom: Took my older son to Disneyland and sat with him at the Tomorrowland Terrace to watch Padawan training. Son was in late 20s early 30s. His face when the stage rose with Vader and Darth Maul. Priceless.

We saw the first movie sitting front row center. The only seats left. When the words started we were in awe! Then the ship! WOW! Love the storm troopers, but my favorite are the droids that are minding their business doing what they do in the middle of blasters going off!😊

Story time: We were a newly married couple living overseas with a newborn. One particularly restless night, I was at my limit and desperate for sleep. My husband said “Let me take the baby,” and he went to the living room and put on “A New Hope”. Miraculously, it soothed our wailing baby and I was able to get some much needed rest. Thus began the special relationship between my husband and my daughter. Seven years later, we are preparing to attend The Season of The Force as a family, and our kid could not be more excited to share it with her Dad. And it just fills my heart to witness their joint love for all things Star Wars. Thank you for sharing, Chris. May the Force be with you!

I think a common thread among all Star Wars fans is that usually a loved one, friend or family member introduced them to the movies at a young age and will always remember that first time watching them. I think that, above all is the main thing that Star Wars is all about.

Chris! You talking about your mum really made me want to hug you. It's such a beautiful story. For me it's the opposite, my mother wasn't a huge Star Wars fan, but she was very supportive of my obsession. She joined me in the cinema for a showing of Episode 3, we watched the other movies together at home. She has sewn stuff for my projects (Yoda robes, Stormtrooper belts), everything. I am just as lucky as you are, having been raised by an amazing mother. Sadly she became one with the Force three years ago. She left a hole for sure, but also a ton of fond memories! So here's to Star Wars, to family and to the Light Side triumphing (even if the Dark Side has the cooler outfits ;))

I was in the movie theater in 1997 (11 years old) when I first saw that infamous Star Wars crawl opening and I have been hooked ever since. Fast forward and my daughter joins the Disney College program and is then asked to help open Galaxy's Edge. As a cast member, she was invited to the preview day and chose me to be her "plus one". I cried like a baby (and am getting choked up now!) as we walked into GE as the second group ever to do so. I will never, ever forget that day!

My son and I went last year on May 4, and had a blast getting on all the rides that usually have long lines. We did all of them repeatedly and skipped all the other activities because for us the value of the ticket was to actually be able to ride rides and not stand in lines. This year I’m enjoying it as a cat member. The guest were amazing and I think they were way more costumes this year than they were last year. Great times!

Hi Chris! Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I love em all! Two reasons this one really extra, extra hit home with me... Star Wars and I also have amazing memories of my parents taking me to see A New Hope in the theater, like five times!. I was 10 years old and they fully supported how CRAZED I became after seeing just that first movie. Sadly, I have lost both my parents now but Star Wars was something we all enjoyed and looked back on fondly. I too was mesmerized by the Stormtroopers. As you said, SLEEK! When I purchased my first set of screen accurate Stormtrooper armor, I went to my mom's house, knocked on the door and told her to show me identification. She didn't know what to do! THANK YOU for all the amazing insights and tips. I really hope to see you in the park someday!!!

Great video, Chris! Beautiful, touching story about you and your Mom going to see Star Wars together. I shed some bittersweet tears, heres why: I grew up in Sunnyvale, CA. Parents divorced when I was 9 and I'm an only child. In the summer of '77 when I went to visit my Dad who moved to Illinois, he took me to see Star Wars. IT BLEW... ME... AWAY!!! Lost my Dad to dementia 5 years ago. I now live in Illinois and every time I drive by that theater, it always makes me smile. Always appreciate the positivity you spread. Keep it up. The world sure does need it! Len

I’m a new mom, and I’m watching this video on the tv as I’m holding my baby as he takes a nap. And hearing the story about your mom moved me enough to go on my phone and type this out. I’ve been struggling to bond with my son and we are taking him to Disney next week (dressed as an Ewok of course lol) besides the point. I’ve always struggled to think about the impact my parenting will have in my sons life. But watching you as an adult in Disneyland stopping to reminisce in a so beautiful memory that you hold with your mom put me in tears. And I haven’t stopped crying since. I’m looking down at my son hoping to one day be the mom you had growing up. Sending you much love and support. And also my lash bill since I’m crying a day after getting them done lol 😂❤

I hope you never forget that. Gosh Darn it, you made me cry. My dad went to every opening night when the first ones were released. Then when the new ones started to be released, he and I went to EVERY opening night of the Star Wars films starting with Phantom Menace. The last one, I bought us t-shirts to wear. He never got to see Batuu. I bought him a shirt from Galaxies Edge and gave it to him two weeks before he died. To this day, we don't know what happened to that shirt. He's been gone two and a half years now.

I saw Star Wars August of 1977. Sometime after that the movie soundtrack was released, a double album. A local record store had Darth Vader signing the album. Of course I was there, Darth Vader was my favorite from day one. When I saw the 9th movie, Lando Calrissian said of the festival they visited, “They hold this festival every 43 years.” I cried, it was 43 years ago when I saw the first movie. Thank you for sharing this video with us, I was so happy watching it, had happy tears in my eyes.😊

I've seen every Star Wars movie on opening night with my two brothers. They are my best friends and we are all fans. But my favorite movie is The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. When my son was about 18 months old, we were trying to get him to take a nap. My dad said to put on a movie and he would hold my son and watch the movie. My son quickly fell asleep, but my dad continued watching Pooh, with my son in his lap laughing through the whole movie. My dad is long since gone and now my son has a son of his own, but I can still hear my dad laughing every time I watch the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

That’s an awesome story. I remember in the theater with my dad at the end of empire strikes 198? . Luke I’m your father I was 5 or so and I can still remember how the audience reacted and how my dad reacted. Love the original Star Wars. Also remember playing in the snow with my dad on a road trip. I happen to have a few star wars toys. Several of those figures died in battle that day we barried them in the snow and left them on the battle field. When my father passed back in 2018 I told my friends to call there dad because time is short. The first 3 friends I talked said they didn’t talk to their dad. It’s sad but that helped me realize how blessed I was to have a life long relationship. Still sad he’s gone but that sadness is special super special it’s a reminder how blessed I am to have that relationship.

My parents took me to see Star Wars when I was 7. I knew it was a big deal but I didn't really understand how big a deal it was. I didn't know I was supposed to be scared by any of it, and during the trash compactor scene I laughed at the monster because I thought it was funny. I didn't understand why no one else was laughing and my mom was shushing me... My family didn't have a lot of money, so I only got to see it that one time in the theater, but then the summer it landed on HBO I practically lived at at a friend's house watching Star Wars over and over again. These days it's a bit hard for me to make it to the park for an event like that, but thank you so much for sharing!

in 1977 I was 8 and my brother was 7. We had spent a couple of weeks with my moms parents(getting spoiled)! My parents went and saw Star Wars while we were gone and agreed they had to take us to see it when we got back! We did, and it was life changing for us! We didn't see any other movie the rest of the year, just Star Wars over and over and over! Then we had to have the toys, of course! Then every movie after that! My brother and his wife were in the Star Wars magazine, cause one of their wedding announcement photos was them dressed as Han and Leia standing in front of our friends life size Darth Vader. She wore my Leia costume! Love going to Batuu so much! My brother has a Star Wars room in his house! So does our friend Lyle! He was super jealous when I won the life size Darth Maul. I called and left a message that I won him. When the phone rang later and I answered it Lyle was like I hate you!! and I was oh you got my message!! My mom is a bigger fan than my dad, but he will still see the movies ,and watch the series on Disney+. Really its still a big part of our lives! We LOVE Star Wars!

We loved it so much that we turned around and bought tickets again. So we watched the first and the second showing at that theater (the only theater in town showing it.) with about 20 or so people. When we came out after the second showing the line for the movie the line for tickets went around the theater and down the street. To this day, I will never forget this and its something the three of us share and we have repeated that story whenever anyone asks what our special memory is of Star Wars.

Awesome!!! I so want check out Star Wars night! My Star Wars memory.... I'm in highschool sitting in a boring class right after lunch, when suddenly one of my best friends who's a senior at the time walks in the class with a paper in his hand, gives it to the teacher, then the teacher looks in my direction and calls me up. "Jimmy, looks like you're excused for the rest of the afternoon". As soon as my friend and I walk out of the classroom, he tells me " Dude, let's go see the Phantom Menace". We hopped in his Bronco and took off to the mall to catch an afternoon showing of Phantom Menace. Totally awesome!!!! Movie finished just in time for my buddy to drop me off at school at the last bell. Mom pulls up " How was school?"..... "Awesome Mom". LOL!!! Just wanted to say I was very touched when you mentioned going to Star Wars with your mom. My parents took my brother and I to all three original movies. We loved Star Wars so much that when The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi came out, they got me and my brother out of school early to see the very first showing of those films the day they opened. I recently lost my dad to dementia and he was bedridden for a while before he passed. The last movie I watched with him while he was here was The Empire Strikes Back. These movies were truly magical.

I was 12 when the very first movie came out and was obsessed! Saw it 4 times that summer in the theater, which was a lot back then... 😂 Loved it then and still do. I'm retiring soon 🎉 and hope to attend this event next year!!!

I think my absolute favorite part of your videos are your cuts because of genuinely happy interactions with people! That or maybe you always have a story or give a uplifting sentiment that seems to always hit the feels button just right! I was on vacation leaving the park that night when you were showing up! Just missed you!!!

Chris, thank you so much for showing Star Wars Night! Going to a Star Wars Night either on or near May 4th is number one on my bucket list to do after I retire. I remember seeing Star Wars in a 2 story theater. We sat at the edge of the balcony. Seeing the ships from that high up was awe inspiring. The movie changed my life. When Return of the Jedi came out, I skipped school and got in line at 6:30am to be the first one through the door. It is still my All time favorite movie. Now I am so lucky to live when’re part of the movie was filmed. Yes, I live in the Endor forest! Now how cool is that for a long time Star Wars geek to do! When my children were old enough, I shared the joy of the trilogy with them. Now my son will get to share them with his son!!!

My favorite memory about Star Wars. Is one. My dad has always told me when he showed me empire strikes back. When Darth Vader say Luke, I am your father. Apparently I stood there for about a minute and then just say “No way”

Star Wars is special for me too. It was a thing my Dad and I always bonded over. He was the Vader to my Leia and most of my fondest memories of us have to do with Disney trips and Star Wars stuff. I lost my dad 6 years ago and it's hard to go to the Parks and. Ot cry remembering him having fun there. He would sit in EPCOT all day long when they came down to see me working at WDW except for days when I performed, then he was in the theater seeing every show I did!

I was there for Star Wars Nite on Tuesday, April 16. It was worth the $159 cost to be able to enter the park and go on all the rides I wanted with little to no wait. Longest wait was about 15 minutes for Hyperspace Mountain, second was Smuggler's Run at 10 minutes, and everything else was zero wait. And to end the night, I did a walk-up at Savi's Workshop for a custom lightsaber; they don't take reservations on Star Wars Nite, so if you really want a saber, just walk up and you're in. Edit: LOL, I just noticed myself in your video at 1:11, in front of the person wearing the black Star Wars shirt!

My Aunt who was a HUGE Sci fi fan, took me out of 1st grade that day to go see Star Wars, I was 6 years old. We went opening day May 25th 1977, remember it like yesterday. We got to the theater at 7 a.m she bought me chocolate milk and doughnut holes. I took a nap in the car before the movie first showing! Since then out of 11 SW movies, I've seen 10 opening day or midnight showing. And have lost count how many times I've seen the original Trilogy..

25:40 I envy you, Chris. I'm a big Star Wars fan too. Huge. I joined the 501st because I love wearing Star Wars costumes. But I envy you because I don't have my first memory of watching Star Wars. My earliest memory of Star Wars is popping in the VHS for Empire the wrong way around, lol. Now, as an adult, I crave other people's Star Wars stories and share in their joy while they reminisce in their first memory. In a way, I'm vicariously a first memory of Star Wars through them.

Hearing your story about your mom got me teary-eyed :) So relatable bc I have a vague memory of watching Star Wars in the movie theater when I was little with my parents. I remember sitting in the movie theater trying to read the LONG intro and brief snippets of Darth Vader and Yoda, and totally loving the Ewoks. My husband and son both love the Star Wars franchise, and my daughter understands our love for it :)) We went to our first Star Wars Nite last year and I sewed my son's costume! He even wore it before and after the event. Thank you for always bringing positivity to your videos! Love, love, love your videos!

My love for Star Wars began similar to Chris’s. My very first memory is my dad taking me to the cinema to see Star Wars in 1977-78. I was 3 years old and stood in the seat next to him so I could see. Remember the tie fighters and x-wings zooming through space. I was mesmerized by Darth Vader. I have been a fan ever since. Fortunately, my husband and son (Miles😊) is too! We’re traveling from Texas to attend the May 7 Star Wars Nite. Can’t wait!!! ❤❤❤

For the 33th anniversary for Starwars there was a touring Philharmonic with John Williams and narrated by Anthony Daniels. My brother is a huge fan and my parents got us all tickets to the show in Ontario California for his birthday that year. The look of amazement from my brother is a memory I cherish. I got many compliments because I absentmindedly wore a shirt with 33 all over it. It was a great time and I recommend watching it live.

For me Star Wars is not only a great movie franchise but it makes me feel a sense of pride and inspiration. George Lucas is from my home town and I couldn’t be prouder to say so. I also feel so inspired by Lucas. Even someone from a small town like mine can create something that can greatly impact the world.

I was a senior in high school, and my friends an I wanted to go to the movies. They all told me I needed to see Star Wars. I whined about it, no I don’t like science fiction, it’s not my thing, can’t we see something else? They dragged me into the theater and in the first minute, I was in love with it! It’s still my favorite of all the SW movies.

Thank you Chris, for this look at the special night! Your "tour" is the best one I've seen!! It was my Senior year in high school in 1977 and I went to watch Star Wars with a group of friends. I LOVED it!! That same weekend, my parents went with another couple as a date night. My dad had not been to a movie theatre since he was a young teenager. A couple of days later while at work, he was injured in an accident that severely broke his leg. He had to have multiple surgeries and was in a cast my entire senior year. We always laughed and said it was because of that dang Star Wars... I liked to think he was a wounded Rebel soldier fighting in the Rebellion. We all have memories attached to it, good or bad, as it was such a momentous cultural phenomenon.

Chris, that was a beautiful story of you and your mom, thank you for sharing. My mom and I share a similar story about watching Star Wars for the first time. It was May 1977 and i had just finished the finals for my first semester of professional school, and a friend suggested i see the new Star wars movie. I had seen the line at the theater and was intrigued, though i saw the trailer and was not impressed. However, that opening sequence with the small starship then the HUGE starship blew my mind. And going into hyperspace! It was the first and only movie i wanted to stay and watch again. By the time the second movie came out, you couldnt do that, they'd clear the theater after each showing, but we could stay in the seats and watch again.

I've seen all the Star Wars movies in the theater. The most memorable though was Return of the Jedi. I was in 4th Grade and every day since March I had been telling my teacher that I was NOT going to be at school that day, that I was going to see RotJ on opening day. And she would tell me everyday that that was playing hooky. I said I was going anyways. May comes along. I packed a lunch in my Empire Strikes Back metal lunchbox and my mom dropped me off at the Regency Theater in Fresno (CA) at 7 in the morning. It was FANTASTIC! People were in costumes. There were lightsaber duels. People were playing Sabaac. We had action figures there. The first showing was at 12:15pm. I waited in line by myself as a 10 year old. No one was with me (man, that would never happen today). There were no presales then. By the time I got to the ticket window, only two seats were still available. I bought my ticket and saw the first showing on the first day and my mom picked me up afterwards. My teacher never said anything to me the next day at school, and years later at 8th Grade graduation she told me that she had marked me "Present" that day😄. Have a great Star Wars Day!
