I canceled my Alice in Wonderland pre-order about a week ago. Such a shame that more work isn’t put into these decks. 😒

It’s sad because there’s so many great bootleg disney decks out there created by hobbyists that can’t get released because of licensing and this crap just gets pumped out of the deck mill. You could make amazingly detailed decks with the disney license. Thank god I like pip decks but honestly. This is disappointing.

As someone who is new to tarot but a hardcore Disney fan, this has been one of the most easy (for me anyway) to understand just from looking at the walkthroughs. 5 of Coins, for example, is pretty gosh darn easy to understand when you really stop and look at it. It’s the desolation of Pride Rock after Scar drove away the herds and Nala brings Simba back. If you know what that scene is, it’s easy to see it as the 5 of Coins. That whole scene practically screams it! The land is utterly barren, the pride is starving to death... Admittedly, the three faces on the 3 of Coins could be challenging, but it’s clearly Shenzi, Bonzai, and Ed, the three hyenas who constantly are working together with and on Scar’s behalf. And I could be wrong, but I think the 6 of Coins is the buttons on Edgar Balthazar’s coat. (He’s the butler from Aristocats and also the Knight in the same suit.) If I’m correct in my thoughts that this is Edgar, it becomes a little bit easier. I mean, the catalyst for the movie is his belief that Madam’s distribution of wealth after her passing is unfair. 9 of Coins is obviously Prince John’s robe, and considering this is a villain tarot and not a hero tarot, it is unsurprising that one of the most greedy characters would be on a card of abundance. The Page of Swords (and 5 of Swords) is Lucifer from Cinderella. He’s probably the most conniving character behind Lady Tremaine (Queen of Swords), in the movie. He’s constantly plotting little devious tricks to get Cinderella in trouble. And I feel toward 7 of Swords like I do 5 of Coins: if you know, you know. I mean, it’s Lady Tremaine. Do you remember what she does to Cinderella? Locking her up and having her daughters try on the shoe? Then blatantly lying about having no more daughters in the house so she can try to marry one of them off to the prince? Listen, I was HORRIBLY disappointed by her Labyrinth tarot, and I personally think she’s just churning out decks for the sake of making money. However, I feel like most hardcore Disney stans should be able to understand cards like the 5 of Coins and 7 of Swords. Because if you know those stories inside and out and have even a basic understanding of what the cards are supposed to mean… it becomes a lot easier. I’m gonna be honest and say that I don’t feel like people are going to be fair to the deck as a whole because of MS using decks as a cash grab. And I’m sorry, but from your reaction to cards like the 5 of Coins and 7 of Swords, it seems you either have a bit of a bias or you don’t remember your Disney well. Or probably both. I mean, I haven’t watched Cinderella in about ten years… and I got the 7 of Swords IMMEDIATELY. I haven’t seen Lion King in about two years… but I got the 5 of Coins IMMEDIATELY! And I don’t deny that when I look at cards like the 2 and 3 of Cups, it feels like she just didn’t give two fish in a barrel and is just creating cash grabs right and left… but I will disagree with you on some of those cards. Because she CLEARLY put thought into cards like: -5 of Coins -Queen of Swords as the conniving Lady Tremaine. -Empress as Mother Gothel. (I mean, seriously? How did you NOT enjoy the irony of that one?) -Iago as the Page of Wands? Loud-mouthed and hot tempered Iago? I felt that was fairly accurate, considering we are talking about villains. -Mad Madam Mim in her illusory form in the 6 of Wands as she’s boasting about herself (again, we’re dealing with villains here). -7 of Wands is the Evil Queen from Snow White, who is notoriously defensive about being the most beautiful in the land. -9 of Wands, you have a backside view of the same Evil Queen, who feels “wounded” after being told she’s no longer the best and going through all of these ridiculous tasks of trying to get rid of Snow over and over again. -2 of Coins is Sir Hiss from Robin Hood, who is constantly trying to keep Prince John’s life in order. -Death… IS DEATH! It’s Hades. He’s literally the Lord of the Underworld! The only way this could have gotten better/worse is if it had been Mufasa. And again, I don’t deny that when I see the blatant pip cards like the 9 or 10 of Swords, I get angry that she couldn’t have given those the same attention, but I’m sorry. I feel like credit should be given where credit is due. And there were more than a few cards where the art was well done and matched quite nicely… if you know and remember the stories well enough. EDIT: I just rewatched this and realized you called the Evil Queen’s disguise in the 10 of Wands a HE. I was right. You CLEARLY don’t remember your Disney AT ALL if you didn’t recognize that was the Evil Queen. BUT, having gotten the deck, I will also agree with you on the cardstock and vibrancy: definitely not the beat.

I absolutely agree. If you know your Disney, all cards except few pips absolutely have sense. This was kinda biased.

Canceled my pre-order for this on a whim and I'm so glad i did. You're spot on about the copy and paste aspect. Each card deserves a special meaning and i don't get that at all from this deck. Goodbye Alice in Wonderland pre-order!

I do love this deck. I received my copy the other day. With me...knowing who the characters are and seeing the films, watching the villains and how they are interacting with others would help. For example the cup suit with the hat...upsetting journey...Captain Hook was eaten by the giant crocodile. Prince John the lion in the suit of coins, because he was money hungry.

I feel like for this deck you really have to know your Disney and the characters to understand the correspondence to the traditional Rider cards. A majority of them I could understand and relate but other (a few of the cups/swords minors for Example ) were seemingly just kinda thrown together as you said. Would that be an issue for me? No cause I can use playing cards for readings just by the basic meanings. Now for more intuitive reading these may not be my first choice, but that may change once I do some readings with them. I’m keeping mine as I’m a hardcore Disney fan, but Idk how often I’ll use them but has to do mostly with the card stock honestly. I’m very appreciative of your honest reviews though cause you aren’t afraid to point things out that may be a sincere issue for some. The labyrinth Tarot I waited yeeeears for someone to put out (there’s a Brian Froud art Oracle that is beautiful and literally makes you crave a Labyrinth tarot deck) but when they finally released the art of it on Amazon I was unsettled. Sooooooooo much potential for that deck. Im hoping in the years to come another labyrinth tarot can be made that is far more thought out and gives the legacy its proper tribute.

after seeing this i'm glad that I canceled my preorder of this deck. I feel like my Golden Girls tarot deck is probably my favorite theme deck because it stays pretty close to the RWS symbolism.

I'm so glad I passed on this deck. As much of a Disney lover that I am I just can't get into these decks that are just meh.

This deck was the way I discovered that I don't like pip cards, I barely ever want to use this deck and you've put into words exactly why. It also helped me realize I'm not as big of a Disney fan as I thought lol. Definitely a novelty deck

I purchased this and I really like it a lot, but I do feel that you have to be a super big disney fan to get this deck and all the characters and such. I also think it is very minimal and Minera just wanted nothing but a cash grab. Overall I think this video was very educational and helpful.

I ordered these and waiting on them to arrive! I feel like you have to be a die hard disney fan to relate.. i also got a Rider one i think its called just to have options as i am just starting out!

I'm looking for cards where I can use to help my viewers face their ugly truths of themselves. At the first batches of cards, I was like, "This is not that too bad. I need go find another decks." Ugh. This is sad. The theme had amazing potential. Every licensed deck Minerva has put out has felt like nothing but a cash grab.

If you think this one is bad; try the Nightmare Before Christmas Deck lol. I was so disappointed in that one, which was a bummer because it’s one of my favorite movies. They literally just slapped some presents (pentacles), needles (swords), candles (wands), and potions (cups) on cards and called it a day. No thought in the minor suit whatsoever. It seems this is a very common theme in Disney Decks. I almost wish they would just make a deck of Major Arcana for a reduced price

Thank you for this comment, I love Disney and I was thinking about those two decks, but couldn't really understand why my guts is telling me "don't buy" 🤣 and now I feel it's exactly this - they seem like a cash grab.

Sorry not even for a child. I use themed cards to converse with young people 7 plus and it helps. The pips are so poorly illustrated that the deck is useless. The Courts lack luster as well. Thank you for the flip through!

Agreed and the Nightmare before Christmas deck shuffles really nice. The Disney villain tarot the cards clump together they also form separate little groupings of the cards like 6 individual piles HATE THAT! Granted Minerva has been extremely sick and in and out of the hospital battling something which is why maybe the release was just release for the hell of it because of the long pre order. Glad I got the deck being that I am a Disney fan and know the characters and movies to a tea. But yeah the card stock could’ve been better. Ooooh these would’ve been lovely with a rose petal finish or linen textured. And maybe some gilding just for the hell of it. And the back of the cards are blah should’ve been like green and purple or black gilding and lime green and purple decor 🥴

I wanted to see it after all the hype. Not a Disney fan but I'm over joyed to see Kronk is the Fool! That's perfect. And I love Yzma is the Moon. She's not a moon archetype but Emporers New Groove is a lost little gem.

Although I like and glad they included Kaa and Iike the picture of Kaa from the trees, Shere Khan, Mad Madam Mim and they included her skinny woman form too, Cruella, Queen of Hearts and I like the design on the Queen holding White Rabbit, Edgar and Jafar and Iago and also Prince John and Sir Hiss I am disappointed that it didn't have Stromboli and Honest John and Gideon, Horace and Jasper, Headless Horseman, Winkie and his weasels, Ratigan and his henchmen, and the Heffalumps and Woozles. They would have been a perfect addition to this cards deck.

Even if it has a very nice artwork i think it's a poor tool to use for divination. I think some association are questionable and, from my point of view at least, far away from my persepective on tarot (example Izma as the Moon or The Magic Mirror as the Star... I would have switched) the minor arcana are even worst.

What a sad way of producing decks. The meanings are not connected to many of these cards. Why are these produced without enough research or knowledge in tarot.

What's going on with the swords!? They could have done something more creative!

I love it. Im a collector so mine will just be for display or posterity lol This deck, the nightmare before Christmas, Labyrinth, del toro, and several others seem to have this blue print. The same box, same type of book, same card stock. Not the best quality but my purpose is more for collection. ....As a nurse, the vascularity in your hands is amazing. If only every patient had such veins 💦💦

Why?

Me no likey, it's not vibrant enough in color and it just looks like scenes from movies. I liked how it looked on Amazon better 🤷‍♀️ No bueno

So glad i passed on this.. as i was not too thrilled with Nightmare before Christmas that they made. yes it's cute for sure, as a Disney lover myself i love all things Disney but they missed the mark with the symbolism. Maybe cute for a kids deck though. Also they misspelled Judgement

Judgment is spelled correctly, there’s no “e” after the “g”’in the word unlike in word Judge. I use to mess that one up a lot growing up 😆

This is a disappointing deck . I am so glad I didn’t pre-order. This feels like a child’s deck! This was on a pre-order list for so long that much more work could have been done. They could have just used the characters in RWS STYLE. Pathetic! It’s entirely too minimal! Return!

Yeah, well, that is...weak. Especially the minor. Some are so well-done that it makes the boring laziness of many others more confusing. I particularly liked the use of Gothel, Yzma, the Magic Mirror, both human versions of Madame Mim, the hyenas, Smee, McLeach, & Jafar. Some like Scar (& actually the hyenas too) or Lady Tremaine seemed overused while plenty were discluded and a number of cards had no character... But "Judgment" is not misspelled, as somebody else said.

Nope. Not getting this. I'll wait to see what Alice looks like.. I think most of the minor are distracting. They could have considered "Gothic" Marseille style minors and maybe play up the elements of the suits, but the random pictures of characters just stuck on a background. Also the guidebook should have referenced the character to help describe the meaning of the card. These decks could have been so much fun🤔😑
