I'm guessing that the only reason the King turns fully evil at the end is because of the actions he's forced to take in response to Asha literally instigation a rebellion over him not granting every wish

I don't get how the king was the villain, if the kingdom was well-managed and prosper. Usually villains take what they want, no matter what, even if it means destroying their realms. Also, I think The princess and the frog managed the wishing on a star far better. It's not just about making a wish, you have to work for it, and even if it never comes true, it doesn't mean that your life it's gonna be bad or sad. He was hoarding important pieces of other people's entire personhoods (their innermost wishes and dreams) and only ever granting ones that would make his kingdom stronger, thus give more attention, gratitude, and power to himself, and was always conflating what was most beneficial to HIM with what was most beneficial to the land and people he ruled over. He wanted to keep everyone reliant on his magic for the sake of his ego. He was not a good guy and not even willing to compromise on his management of wishes because he feared irrelevance if he did.

@@albislopez The kingdom/land/nation being "prosperous" is the rationalization every tyrant uses to keep with practices that are unfair to the people they rule. And there's the whole detail that no one who's given their wish to Magnifico could even work hard to make their wish come true afterwards 'cause the magic of the deal makes them forget what their wish even was to begin with. It's basically putting all faith and trust in a single person to play God with your own heart's wish/dream, and Magnifico wanted to keep that going because it gives him such glory and power.

Now that I’m an adult, cheap tricks don’t work on me anymore. I’ve learned about the manipulating side of Disney. Forcing proof of their purchase of Fox in Free Guy, advertising that Lightyear is “Andy’s favorite movie”, and the shameless line up of live action remakes. I’m worried that the magicians of Disney will all be replaced by greedy executives .

Really wish people would stop saying poorly written garbage is something only a 'fan' would like, when, the truth is, it isn't for 'fans' but for 'losers who substitute having a personality with liking a certain corporation's brand'. A fan is able to discern quality in a product of which garners their attention to said product in the first place, while the latter will blindly say that the product is good be it a finely crafted piece of art or sludge that insults even their intelligence. A crunched down word for that really needs to be made. I think the one that's starting to make it's way around the lexicon is 'tourist'.

In my humble opinion, I see the film as a bit flat to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the creation of Disney, the 2D and 3D style does not bother me, I like the design of the landscapes in general, leaving aside the protagonists, I didn't like the design of the other characters and the color palette is too pale for my taste. The soundrack is the most redeeming thing about the movie, I really like the way it sounds. BUT the main problem is the plot itself, you have the ruler who grants wishes (the villain, who doesn't look like one to my eyes) and the princess, both have different points of view when it comes to wishes, Aisha thinks that everyone deserves their wishes to be granted, and the king thinks that not all of them can be granted, for the safety of the kingdom, and I lean more towards his argument. He is not a bad ruler and he does not seem like a bad husband, he is quite fair with everyone, the only flaw I find in him is a little narcissistic, a little in the Gaston style but passable. I don't know how they can turn the screw on this because I find it a little difficult, but I could be wrong and it ends up being a good movie, you just have to wait and see it. I would have liked the theme of granting wishes to the stars to have gone towards a more celestial and magical theme, a kingdom of heaven where wishes can be granted to those with a good heart, where the highest authority is the blue fairy... I don't know something like that.

How to not understand a movie: she didn't want everyone's wishes realized, she wants to give back the wishes to them, because the moral is not "everyone deserves to have their wish granted" but "everyone deserves to pursue their dreams" and "don't rely on your happiness being brought to you by someone else. You have to fight for it yourself"

I’m a big fan of Disney movies like Lion King, Aladdin, and Mulan. Movies with well structured stories that appeal to both kids and adults. Stories with relatable characters and interesting ideals that leave you feeling refreshed at the end. And it feels like a lot of their newer films focus upon appealing to certain demographics, rather than leaving an impact on their viewers.

As someone who is just kind of burnt out on CG style animation, watching Wish was a breath of fresh air. If someone is looking for the pacing and style of a Minions or Trolls movie, Wish will not be for them. But as someone who still returns to movies like Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, the pacing and style of this movie was very refreshing. The castle was very immersive and Magnifico’s plot gave enough to “chew on” that I was still considering his story even after the movie ended. Best movie ever, maybe not, but I really hope it does well so they lean in more on this style in future films. Watching Wish was nice, and I will likely return to see it again in theaters - not something I normally do.

Disney had made some bangers even prior to the ending of the Owl House. Problem was they’ve been on this “gotta be woke for our audience” crap and DOUBLED down on it more and more. Representation is good, but Disney does it in a way where instead of feeling natural it’s them saying “look guys. We did it!! We are woke!” And it ends up RUINING their films integrity. Not to mention they just don’t hire passionate people making this stuff anymore

Agter seeing the movie and seeing how disappointing of a villain he was im gonna rewrite him. But not as a villain. But as an antagonist Magnifico actually does care about his people amd genuinely wants to help. But there are some wishes he absolutely cannot grant. After hearing Asha's grandfather wish for inspiring people, he refuses. Asha begs and pleads and argues with him. So Magnifico says "You want to see what consequences look like? Fine. Wish granted". And he actually does it. Asha then wakes up in a dystopian town with the place all in shambles and turmoil. And magnifico is nowhere to be found. Asha goes on a journey to find what happened and why everything is in chaos. Eventually she finds out that the townspeople DID get inspired but many selfishly twisted grandfather's words and spewed horrid lies and propaganda to the point the original meaning got lost and everything fell apart. Asha finds out her grandfather passed away in shame and regretting his wish. Eventually Magnifico returns to her and explains everything. He granted the wish to show her how hard his job is. He then reveals that he did this exact thing for another person: himself. Magnifico used to have a family but they sadly passed after the kingdom was invaded years ago. So he learned magic and wish granting to bring them back. When he finally mastered it he wished for his family back. But...when they showed up at his doorstep they were...unrecognizable. I'll keep it vague to what he saw but it horrified him to where he undid it and vowed to keep the wishes in order. He then tells Asha that no matter what we want in life and how much we think we need it, there are some wishes that cannot be granted and we have to make due with what we have as wishes are not for an easy way out for life. Asha says she understands and asks for her wish to be undone. Magnifico puts everything back to normal and everything is okay again. Magnifico then tells asha that she has to break the news to her grandfather that he cant have his wish. Asha tells him and...the grandfather understands. In the end its revealed the grandfather DID inspire people without a wish. Instead of music, he found his true calling as an author and the people love his books. The people then realize they dont need wishes anymore and choose to live life without an easy option which makes the town even happier and more together. The final scene shows magnifico smiling in his castle and locking away all the leftover wishes no one needs anymore and says "Im so proud of them" before the movie ends
