In my opinion, her singing “reflection”should have been in the movie. Even though her voice is not as strong as Lea Salonga and Christina Aguilera but her voice signifies how mulan felt at the time when she was about to go to a war. An emotional and soft voice of mulan.

I thought this English version was a little breathy, at least on the first verse. Her voice got stronger as she went along. Still beautiful, though. She actually did a better job on the Mandarin version. Maybe because she was more sure of herself & knew the language better. I also noticed that Mandarin & English have different placements in the mouth. Rather fascinating.

I think what actually happens is that Yifei's version feels like is Mulan who is singing. Not only because she's the one who plays Mulan but also cause even if her voice isn't that powerful she captures well the feeling of the song. Christina's version feels like Christina just showing how good of a singer she is (and indeed she is), but with Yifei's version you can actually hear a person feeling vulnerable, lost and insecure of herself, feeling ashamed cause she doesn't fit, can't fulfill the expectations and feels uncomfortable with them. You can actually hear Mulan feeling weak and opening up her heart, telling us something she hid inside of her for so long. Something that (in my opinion) Christina's version can't achieve.

I am crying. I've been following Yi Fei ever since her Love of the Condor Heroes days and I feel so proud of her.. ❤️❤️❤️

Despite her controversy, I gotta give it to her, she's a good damn singer. She's sounds so pure.

I think many of us will never understand why they didn't have her perform the song in the movie. Yes the conflict in the story line was a little bit different, but this was the one distinct moment that never changed: Mulan's reflection of herself. And clearly, the actor can also sing well. I know it's a stretch, but Disney should really consider a re-release to add this song as a performance scene!

I think its because her voice is so soft that it wouldn't fit the theme. But I totally agree with you. They should use Asian American voices since the movie takes place in China.

@@graceherbert3368 It is an Asian film.All the Actors & Actress are Chinese. Not just take place in China. Disney fears loosing money. The American audiences are hard to please. If you not careful, the movie will flop & lost. Mulan was a strong will strong body. The singing must be high to match the story. Yes, the soft sing matched the scene where Mulan have sad emotion. Movies are all about money. All stories are so altered that it lost it's originality.

Honestly this Mulan song really touched me as a little 7 year old Mexican girl. Ever since then I just fell in love with Asian culture not any specific one. But I’m thankful for Mulan for introducing me to this. 💖

Liu Yifei shows more emotions in this video than she did in the movie... Who the heck directed her to be so stone-faced? The girl's obviously capable of better acting.

@J C Well I do believe that the director had a hand in the terrible acting. They were trying to go for the 'strong female' air. The same thing happened to Captain Marvel. Larson's acting was much better than in that movie. Same deal with Liu's. Hollywood today struggles to portray a strong woman when it's their goal to do so in order to be woke. Ironically, they have created successful strong female characters in every shape and size when they just focus on making a compelling story with dimensional characters and leave wokeness behind. However, if you think the bad acting was just Liu being Liu, then sure, go ahead, there's no right and wrong with personal opinions on arts. I, for one, don't believe it's solely her fault.

@@zeldein Yeah, I tried telling myself that, but then she carried the same expression in the scenes where she was being prepared for the matchmaker, bathing in the river and Hong tried to join, facing off the witch for the first time, engaging in battle the enemies. None of those scene require the character to be expressionless. Quite the opposite, tbh.

Love her version simple and soft voice yet deeply felt. Beginning to be her idol.

Omgggg I just noticed her English version of Reflection today. I've been listening to her mandarin version 自己 since March till now. Now that both English and Mandarin has came out, it has finally fulfilled my dream thankss to this channel ❤❤ I love Liu Yi Fei and Mulan 😍😘

I get all emotional upon listening to this. I used to think comments like this on music videos are probably, mostly, lies. But, here I am, watching this for the third time tonight and still crying silently.

This is the best thing ever that Liu Yifei has done in her career as a singer; singing in her other language English for the first time!!! She has never had an English song before Mulan. It was a very big surprise!!! Liu Yifei's singing voice is so beautiful and lovely in English too!!! So, she both acted as Mulan and sang the song 'Reflection' in both English and Mandarin version!!! I hope Liu Yifei will sing an original English song and create an English song album in the future and work with an American or any other English-language songwriter such as Matthew Wilder (whom she had worked for 'Reflection'). Why? Because she is not only Chinese. She is also American. She is Chinese-American!!! Liu Yifei I am a big fan of yours in both acting and singing!!! I wish you have a future full of successes!!!

Liu Yifei likes Naomi Scott's singing voice in the song 'Speechless' and her performance as Jasmine in the live action version of Aladdin. They met each other and they have a thing common; they are both live action Disney Princesses!!! Another wonderful collaboration of Liu Yifei would be with Christina Aguilera because they both sang 'Reflection' for the live action remake of Mulan, they met each other at the movie's premiere and Liu Yifei said she is a big fan of Christina Aguilera. Since Christina Aguilera sang a new version of 'Reflection' for the remake, I thought that Liu Yifei was to sing only the Mandarin version of the song. But she sang the English version too and that surprised me!!! Imagine if Liu Yifei and Christina Aguilera would sing 'Reflection' together as a duet!!! That would be wonderful too!!!

This comment isn't racist, they didn't say every asian person has an accent when speaking english, they are literally just appreciating the actress's accent in context to Mulan.
