Disney Family Album | Fess Parker | Buddy Ebsen | Disneyland | Davy Crockett | George Russel
Originally Aired on the Disney Channel December 1985 (#19 in The Series of 20 Disney Family Albums)
On December 15, 1954, Walt Disney’s television series “Disneyland” presented “Davy Crockett” Indian Fighter”. Starring Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as George Russel. That episode was the first of a three-part mini-series that attracted 40 million television viewers, and a Davy Crockett merchandise bonanza including the imitation coonskin cap, a must for all elementary school-age kids. In this episode of The Disney Family Album, Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen reminisce about the creation of their iconic roles as Davy Crockett and George Russel and other parts they played for Walt Disney Productions.

Watched Fess as Davy Crockett and on TV as Daniel Boone. I had a Davy Crocket hat with the tail and I wore it until it dissolved. By then you couldn't find any to buy. I visited his winery in California in the summer of 2011. I was hoping to perhaps see him. Didn't know until I got there that Fess had passed in 2010. But it felt good being near one of my life long Idols.
Our Uncle Fess was such a big part of our young lives, Walt Disney made a great choice when he cast Fess. What a fascinating account of the Crockett role and Fess Parker's part in the TV legend.

I remember my brother and I could stay up long enough to watch Davy Crockett as long as we had taken our bathes, brushed our teeth, and had our pajamas on. It was magical.

Magical indeed, magical INDEED! I even miss 1985, and would do anything to go back! For now, you can still catch Buddy in Barnaby Jones, here on YT.
In 1998 my then 3 year old son dressed as Davy Crockett & watched the videos nearly every day! Mr. Parker & Mr. Ebsen are true Disney legends.

I was a little girl when the Davy Crochet craze happened. During a promotional tour that came through Irving, between Ft. Worth and Dallas, they stopped at the Irving Movie Theater during the run of the movie. My Mom took me to the movies that day so I got to meet and shake hands with Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen. One of the most exciting days of my young life...getting to meet up with two of my movie and story heroes...Davy Crockett and his sidekick, Georgie Russell, two men who looked to be as tall as redwood trees! It was amazing and I never forgot how handsome and kind they were to a bunch of little Texas fans. They were, of course, all dressed up in their frontier outfits..SO impressive. I wish everyone had had a camera in their pocket back then like they do now...oh, well...sometimes memories are just as good as photos...but you can’t show them to your friends...darn!

Thanks for watching... check out the other Disney Family Albums. It’s a fascinating time capsule into Disney history.
Remember the Alamo with Davy being the last one defending, and swinging away with his long gun while the scene faded out. It was shocking. What was not seen but understood : Davy going down.
love these so called " old timers " and the stories

We really feel like part of the wonderful and always growing Disney family.
I have always and still do watch and enjoy Fess Parker's videos. Buddy Ebbson was one I enjoyed as well. I still watch Daniel Boone on KZread, unfortunately I don't see buddy Ebson that much, still love these guy's. I know they have passed but still fun to see them on the screen
2:56 Can we talk about the fact that an 87 year old can moon walk better than any of us?
Disney had that true pioneer spirit
Note: Fess Parker portrayed both Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.

@@zingyflaps7757 My nephew trick-or-treated as Davy Crocket, and everyone told him, "Oh, you're Daniel Boone".
I am right now watching Daniel Boone. And it brings back great memories. In my early 20,s I wish I could of met Fess and Bubby E. In stead of spending money on dumb things.
December 1985-the peak of my then, young, life.
RIP, men.
Good old Barnaby jones 😮😢 my sister fav show brings so many 70s great memories 😮😢
Two very likable men!
Our heroes ❤.
In many many ways Walt Disney was an innovator
Loved this pair!
I love those movies
loved the riverboat episode
7:31 I'm amazed that both Fess and Buddy did their own stunts correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe that it's very common nowadays for actors to do their own stunts

I heard he got replaced by Jack Haley as the Tim Man in The Wizard of Oz, because of his make up illness.

Yeah. Buddy had auditioned for the Tin Man, but he had a near-fatal allergic reaction to the makeup.
Loved Davy Crockett as a kid in the Fifties. Then as an adult I learned why Davy Crockett fought and died at the Alamo. White Texans had to break away from Mexico if they wanted to be allowed to own black Texans. Mexico outlawed slavery well before Lincoln.
Greatest show ever
It's a shame Disney doesn't have the class it did back in the day...
I wonder why they did not mention that Fess Parker went on to star in the Daniel Boone TV series?
I don't do Disney any more. They screwed over Walt big time. As for Disney products, Not allowed in the house.
