Nikhil assures everyone that Shyama did not steal the money and that, prior to departing for the village, he had returned the money to Disha. Disha discovers that Nikhil is lying to everyone and that he kept the money in his bag after taking it from Shyama's room. He forces Disha to apologize to Shyama and threatens to call Basanta. Although he chastises Rukmini for her behavior, he keeps Rukmini's deed a secret from everyone. He requests that Shyama defend herself. To help him relax, she then douses his head in water.

The protagonist of the tale is a dark-skinned girl named Shyama, who aims to eradicate the shame associated with color. She marries Nikhil and experiences prejudice because of her skin tone. She embarks on a quest to forge her own identity as a gifted vocalist. Shyama thinks her skin tone is similar to Lord Krishna's. Following her marriage, she pursues a career in music, which completely transforms her life. Although Shyama's mother-in-law despises her, over the course of a few years, she grows to love her and even lets her sing.
