Shyama wears a veil,and goes to the kirtan, and begins to sing. Rukmini tries to see the person behind the veil after the function, but Nikhil is able to take Shyama away. Later on, Shyama secretly walks into her home.

The protagonist of the tale is a dark-skinned girl named Shyama, who aims to eradicate the shame associated with color. She marries Nikhil and experiences prejudice because of her skin tone. She embarks on a quest to forge her own identity as a gifted vocalist. Shyama thinks her skin tone is similar to Lord Krishna's. Following her marriage, she pursues a career in music, which completely transforms her life. Although Shyama's mother-in-law despises her, over the course of a few years, she grows to love her and even lets her sing.
