these aren't toilets. You're supposed to kneel and put your head all the way through the hole and downwards into the U shaped niche. A heavy stone goes on top of the loo above your head and locks you into place. The meat cleaver obviously chops down outside the loo, between it and your shoulders. Your head conveniently stays inside the loo and there's less gore to clean up. blood collected under that. Its a blood collector mechanism. Rome was a human slaughterhouse on an industrial scale.

My great great great great grandfather was an ancient Rome toilet officer. It was true 100%. Been told in family for centuries.
