I don't think a welded bearing's the best idea, as it would probably end up corroded and then seizing. I suspect a simple piece of steel tube would have been quite adequate and more reliable too.

I'm not a welder, I do woodworking for a living. I guess that's why I noticed most of this. What's stitch welding though? Is that when they go side to side like a stitch in clothing?

That's a strong latch, anyone can break the small latches... this is more industrial for expensive stuff. Took all about 5 minutes.
