Discovering the Beauty of the Philippines' Historic District 🇵🇭
In our last video, we were in the chaotic streets of Divisoria, Philippines exploring the market, where this video starts. We decided to head to Intramuros which took us along the chaotic street by Tondo (a place we were told to avoid). While meeting tons of locals we carried on into the historic district of Intramuros. We relived some of the memories we had there and visited some churches we missed last time. We were also caught in a fishy situation in which a guy waved down his friend and pointed to us. That friend then trailed behind us for a while alone and kept making eye contact with me. After a few times of making eye contact, he stopped and turned back around. A bit of a weird situation, but nothing happened and we continued on to do a quick visit of Rizal Park where we meet the bull...

The city of Maynila was a puppet city state built by the Brunei Sultanate in the early 1500s after they defeated the kingdom of Tondo, in order to challenge Tondo’s monopoly on Chinese trade goods in maritime Southeast Asia. (Fun fact: Tondo is currently the oldest known city in the Philippines.) When Spain got to manila bay(which was called Lusong bay back then), they immediately saw how lucrative it was & decided it would become their base of operations for trade in asia(mainly to sell silver & gold they extracted in the americas). The Spanish besieged the walled city of Maynila in around 1570-ish. The city at the time actually had cannons(contrary to popular belief, the native Filipinos already had cannons & guns due to trade with the Portuguese from Malacca. This is why it took a really long time for the Spanish to fully conquer the Philippines unlike the americas. The local Filipinos were not as disadvantaged in technology & disease immunity). After a 3 day siege, the Spanish won a Pyrrhic victory, and so had to retreat. They returned a year later, and was able to fully conquer Maynila & the kingdom of Tondo. The city of Maynila was razed to the ground due to that siege. From the ashes, the Spanish built a new city, with walls built atop the old stone walls, that they called “Manila”. Today, that walled city they built is called “Intramuros”. Most of metro manila looked like intramuros before WW2; with many buildings that combined western latin architecture with southeast Asian oriental architecture, and it had one of the best transportation in Asia with streetcars & good city planning & such. The city was once called “the Queen City of Asia”, and “the pearl of the east” around the world. Most of metro Manila was razed to the ground during WW2, in one of the most brutal battles in the pacific theatre. Many historians today call the battle of Manila “the Stalingrad of the east” with how devastating it was. Fortunately, there are still videos that show what Manila looked like before WW2 that can be watched in KZread.

I second that!
there used to be a lot more churches in intramuros before the war (8 in all), but right after the war, only san agustin (the second, smaller, more ornate church you've visited) was left standing, which is fitting because it is the very first church built of stone in these islands. the manila cathedral we see today was rebuilt in the 1950s from the rubble of previous buildings ruined by either fire, war or earthquake. because intramuros was so desolate in 1945, there were plans to move the cathedral to another place outside of manila as all the religious orders except for the augustinians have abandoned it. but then-manila archbishop rufino cardinal santos decided it should remain where it had always stood for hundreds of years.
Intramuros is perhaps the "BCG area" of Manila during the colonial period. VERY EPIC!👍 20:16 "The Rings of Truth" hmmm huh, very profound. 🤣😂🤣

Actually the title should go to Escolta, Manila.
You can really see the difference of the high class living and the poorest people living in slam areas of Manila. There are places for people who can afford the upper class and people in squatter areas just to live by. Manila is the most populated city in the world with all types of people that you can find.
Wow I’m glad that guy did not do anything bad ,you guys are tough ,long walk in not so safe areas,❤ your vlogs👍😊
Street videos such as this one are always my favorite but this particular one is extra special because you finally went inside to two historical and glorious churches which is kinda close to my heart because visiting churches is my thing so kudos to you both Tyler and Isaac for doing that..I wish in the near future you'll do a video where you go see many different churches of the country.
What a great adventure with you guys!!!! 💙🔥
Don’t be surprised. San Francisco, L.A has homeless people now too.
Hello Trifate 😊have you been to Chinatown? The food there is delish 😋😋 be safe guys 🙏🍀🤗🙌💖

I would love you guys to visit the Vigan City in Ilocos and you can see the preserved Spanish architecture.
The 1st part is the legit Manila feels. Most parts of Metro Manila used to have some legit Manila feels before. Metro Manila especially Manila were worse before. Some development made it better now.
Guys you should visit Manila Zoo. You have not been there yet.

Intramuros is a historical sites, many heritage house a espanish era.
Biscuit Bois in Manila Cathedral and St. Augustine Churches in Intramuros!!! 18:45 frackers, be careful, the Carabao and Tamaraw comes into life at night 😀 History and lots of memories, had a picture with that in 1979 with my Mom, then returned 2020.
Go to Las Casas next time you come back
good observation. wealth is almost synonymous to pride. poor people have nothing but hearts. so that's why God said in the Bible it's difficult for the rich to get to heaven and the poor in this world will be comforted.
New sub here
Hey thats our city tondo manila at dagupan!
The poor homes are called squatters.... Proud of you two, Isaac and Tyler! You can walk in the poor areas of the town....Some of the other Americans and Foreigners stay in the best hotels and don't leave it, but you two are different....

Poor homes are not necessarily squatter, you may be poor but you can be the owner. Squatter means that you do not own the land. You are "squatting"...now you know. You're welcome!
I am really happy seeing you guys can walk around like that So humble .so simple . It is not dangerous if you just blend in meaning .embrace their culture .be with them ☺️🙏 Coz politicians, rich kids , movie artists/singers, basketball superstars can't do it . Coz their bad people 😅

14:36 As a kid, I would often play under the rain too and not get sick (at least I don't remember ever being sick because of it), when I got older that's when I noticed that anytime I got caught under the rain, especially if my head got wet, and I just let myself get airdryed so to speak, I'd instantly get sick the next day. What I found that works for me is if I ever get rained on, I need to shower as soon as I get home. As I understand, getting wet in the rain lowers your body temperature and in turn lowers your immune system, which makes it easy for lingering viruses to infect you. (I suppose there's a lot more viruses around in a busy polluted city in the tropics than back home?) So taking a nice shower not only equalizes your body temp back to normal, you're just overall cleaner washing away bacteria and viruses.
AWW. Further up just a little more would be the US Embassy. I wanted to see your reaction upon seeing it.
Also "rain make you sick " due to body thermal shock Your body adjusted to the tempteture of the hot humid weather then get a cold rain. Your current body thermal got shock from hot to cold very fast resulting to getting sick. Which is why after getting wet from rain were told to take a decent long bath to regulate the body temperature

You should try exploring to Cartimar or Dangwa next time
From my understanding "rain make you sick" due to a disturbance to your body thermal.
Epic churches! Be careful and observevative when walking to avoid any bad encounters. The water vendor said "pasyal" which means stroll, sightseeing, walk, roam etc.😎🇵🇭🇺🇸

Pasyal is the Filipino word equivalent of “Pasear”, Spanish for stroll or walk.
Yes try to visit the US embassy just along Roxas boulevard.
Be careful ur self and ur things don't talk to much people you don't know okie keep safe always God bless you protect you from. Danger
You can really see the Spanish influence in this area known as the Old Manila
14:24 thats the site of an old church that was destroyed in the war ... Lourdes church
It's not the rain that makes you sick, but you're just more prone to getting sick bec of the sudden change in temperatures and microbes, viruses, bacteria are more active - they thrive in that kind of atmosphere if that makes sense
Oh I was silently hoping that you visited the national museum, at least the main one where the Spolarium is. You were almost there but it was out of way since yoh went straight to Rizal Park.

I appreciate your videos because you’re showing both the rich and poor neighborhoods.I didn’t have the opportunity to go to those places you’ve been in Metro Manila.
