Great video and great selections. The Color Purple was too depressing for me to watch again. Schindler’s list is a masterpiece. West Side Story I thought was amazing. Brilliant. It did g do too well at the box office. I think people were so enamored by the original.

At the risk of being reactionary i think The Fablemans is his best work. Its incredibly honest and very naked. Spielberg i feel makes truly excellent movies, perhaps the best ever made, but the Fablemans was imo a wondeful intimate film that shines a light into his soul that nothing else from his filmography can touch.

Great video. Three of my top 10 favorite films of all time are Spielberg films. Duel is one of them. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw that movie! Writing, music, production, etc. was miles beyond any other made for TV movie I'd ever seen before and any since. I heard an interesting anecdote just the other day on a blu-ray extra for John Milius' Big Wednesday. Milius was close with George Lucas & Spielberg from their college days, so when he made Big Wednesday in 1977; he, Lucas and Spielberg agreed to all take 1% of profits each from each others' films that year which, of course, included Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Big Wednesday was a complete box office flop and everyone knows how Star Wars & Close Encounters did. Milius said it was probably the worst deal Spielberg & Lucas ever made. Ha!

Two of my favorites are AI and Minority Report which he made back to back in 2001 and 2002. Minority Report in particular got great reviews but it still feels underrated. Jaws of course is a masterpiece as well and is my go to July 4 movie.

It's so tough to pick 4 movies to represent such a vast and important filmography. You did a great job with your choices. I personally would've kept The Color Purple and Schindler's List, but swapped out Jaws, and Raiders of the Lost Ark for the other two.

Great video as always James! I still need to see Duel and his version of West Side Story, but Schindler’s List and The Color Purple are both phenomenal films. As for my picks, I’d have to go with Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Jaws, and Schindler’s List

Really good choices to talk about! It’s so hard to not mention his most beloved films but he’s more than just a master of blockbuster entertainment. I haven’t seen The Color Purple yet so I need to check it out. Speaking of blockbuster entertainment, I hope you get to check out Furiosa on the biggest screen possible. I think some of its impact will be lost even in an exceptional home movie experience. I saw it in AMC Dolby and the audio combined with the visuals was outstanding. I have some issues with the movie but I still had a blast seeing it in theaters.

Hello, Hunter! Glad you enjoyed my choices of Spielberg films. You are right - with a director like Spielberg with such a vast filmography it’s hard to pick just a few films. I hope to get to see Furiosa during its theater run but will see.

Nice choices. Mine would be Jaws, ET, Schindler's List and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Jaws to me is s perfect film when considering all aspects of film. Color Purple i have yet to see.

Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan and Color Purple are both great films. Unfortunately they're also so depressing they're difficult to do repeat viewings of. In fact, I bought Schindlers List on VHS after seeing it in 1993. I still have that VHS and its still sealed. I never could prep myself to watch it again.

Good point on those films, Dude. As great as they are, the subject matter is pretty heavy and can make rewatching a bit of a challenge.
