I'm always envious of people who get to experience Mamamoo for the very first time and discover their awesome vocals, visuals, charisma and stage presence! They are mature powerful women, definitely not your typical girl group. Your reaction was both funny and relatable because the fandom gets slayed time and time again. Welcome to the Radish Field! 😁 Moomoo is the fandom name and their lightstick is a radish (pun on the fan name), so they call their audience The Radish Field. 😂 I actually love how much their performance and visuals affected you because it really emphasize how crazy it was that they were originally considered the "un-pretty" girl group. They were all rejected by other companies for not being "idol material" (especially Hwasa) but Do Hoon brought them together to form a group that is based on vocal talent, not image or appearance. When they debuted they were largely ignored or criticized for not being "idols." People actually filed a formal petition to RBW to remove Hwasa from the group because she was "a visual black hole" and made the whole group less attractive by her presence on stage. Hwasa was considered offensive in the industry because she was too thick, too dark skinned, and not pretty. Then, because she refused to be apologetic about her appearance and just presented herself like the queen she is it pissed them all off. At one point the general Korean public viewed her as offensive either because she didn't fit standards or because she acted too sexy. Eventually, the public learned that she is a genuine, down-to-earth, caring person who is also a total badass and her unapologetic attitude changed from being offensive to endearing and she became an "It Girl" that everyone talked about. That also pissed off the Korean music industry because it proved that their cookie cutter definition of "idol material" was wrong. That's just one example, though. Every single member of Mamamoo has repeatedly made waves through either their talent, or personality, or convictions, that forever changed the landscape of Korean music. They are 4 legends in every sense of the word!

They are known as vocal queen in kpop. They harmonize with each others well. Most of the moomoo (fandom name) are OT4. They are 4 vocal, 4 dancer, 4 rapper, 4 performer, 4 songwriter, 4 comedian (you will know if you see behind the scenes under MMMTV) and 4 soloist. They all have own solo album. Solar being know for powerful house vocal (leader of the group) the one pole dance in egoistic. Moonbyul the rapper who also can sing very well (she even won the second world variety show where all the rapper compete in singing) and the most credited female song writer because she wrote her own rap verse. Wheein know for her honey vocal (she tone is the most wide range can from low to high) and hwasa know for her jazzy tone (last time hwasa rap too). You should check out the dingo killing voice. They are the first girl crush group cause most of the moomoo are female, around 80%. The song mostly have a positive message such as Yes I Am, HIP, etc. they also wrote song for their fan, title I love too and star, wind, flower and sun and I am your fan. They appreciate their fan more than anything and they are good in performing live and they don’t lip sing. Please react more to them.

Check out their song decalcomanie (one of the worst songs to sing live, but they always do it perfectly), and also one of the Moonbyul's solos "shutdown" (you have to pay attention to the lyrics in this one!) :) Also to precise a little about them, they participate in their songs and albums, not only the singing but also the writing, the choices of setting, outfits, creation of choreos... So yep, they're really good 😂

Mamamoo is the reason I got into kpop and they are still the only group I fully keep up with after 4 years. To be fair they are the full package and they also all have solo careers and a unit now so they are 6 artists in one with insane discographies, they make it hard to look at others. Their strength is vocals and performance. They EAT UP the stage and they have been doing it since debut so 10 years now! You should check out their killing voice if you don't mind spoiling yourself parts of songs, it's a live medley of some of their hits and for more classics live performance there is the Immortal Songs live medley from their concert, it's pretty old now but it's a classic and it shows their stage presence and versatility. (Immortal Songs is a show where artists cover big names of the industry and get voted by the public, mamamoo was the first group to win it and they did so multiple times, they used to go on it every comeback in their early days.

They absolutely have the best vocals and i love the fact that they don’t stick to a specific genre or concept, every song is different from the previous one: they’ve done jazz, retro, r&b, ballads, pop, country, dance and even more. Their voice colors are so different yet their harmonies are to die for: even the rapper (moonbyul) can sing better than a lot of other groups’ main vocalists. I really recommend you to dive in that aspects with live songs, where they really can show how good they are. You should listen to Killing Voice (the unedited version has their raw vocals while in the cut one the channel edited them), the Immortal Songs performances (especially Delilah, The Way to Sampo and the medley), the live performance of “I Miss You” from the show Queendom and the live performance of “My Star” from their concert. I also recommend you to listen to the Mycon concert performance where they covered each other’s solos.

You ain't seen noth'in yet! Four superstars collectively as Mamamoo, and individually as each member has their own very successful solo career. Mamamoo is in my top 2 kpop gg. Between their group works and their solo efforts they have close to 400 titles in their discography, so there's plenty of material to react to. I think you noticed that Mamamoo are women being women, not little girls trying to be sexy or grown women trying to be cute, but women being themselves and displaying their natural talents. They are widely recognized as the vocal queens of kpop and the biggest crackheads/goofballs in the business. I would suggest getting to know the member next. The MAMAMOO members are among some of the most-credited idols in K-Pop as of Aug 27/23 - Moonbyul actually has the most songwriting credits of all 3rd generation female idols at 117(2nd most credited famale artist overall... Yoon Mirae at 139), since she writes her own raps(and more) in almost all of the group’s songs. As well as contributing to the songwriting in many of them as well. - Solar has 41 credits to her name. She wrote the lyrics and composition for her solo song, “Spit it Out”. Composer on "Honey". (new mini album "Colors" isn't included) - Hwasa has 46 credits. The lyrics to her solo song, “María”, were praised for its inventive and meaningful wordplay. ("Somebody" w/Loco). - Wheein has 10 credits (that I can find, maybe more) I COULD use an Update, as this is 8+ months ago LoL... if anyone has the info (TY)

Mamamoo songs to try: Illella (their most recent comeback), Paint Me, gogobebe, Decalcomanie, mumumumuch, Dingga, Wanna Be Myself (which the MV is actually an advertisement for a sportswear brand but it's a fantastic song and MV), Wind flower, Piano Man, Gleam (which the MV is also another advertisement, but this time for a eye wear company), You're the Best, Yes I Am, Aze Gag (a goofy MV about dad jokes), woo hoo (another advertisement MV this time for LG), Taller Than You (funny song about the girls poking fun at their heights and whose taller than who), I Miss You (written for fans), and Um Oh Ah Yeh. Also, all four girls have solo careers. Songs for each girl I recommend (by age. I.e the eldest to youngest of the group): Solar: Honey, But I (her most recent comeback from 5 days ago) Moonbyul: Lunatic, Touchin&Movin (her most recent comeback from 2 months ago) Wheein: water color, In the Mood (her most recent comeback from 6 months ago) Hwasa: Maria (her most popular song with over 300 million views on the MV), LMM (my favorite of her songs)

Mamamoo are also probably the most unapologetic Girl Group in Kpop. They do what they want and it's up to YOU to deal with it. Moonbyul is the nation's girl crush and has written one of the most blatantly lesbian anythem's in Kpop with "Shutdown". While Solar has brought drag queen dancers on her solo stages. And was the first female to perform a pole dance at a concert as well as ripping her shirt open because quote "All the guys do it and it looked fun!". Wheein is just an artist painter, composer, dancer, singer everything. And Queen Hwasa is basically South Korea's Beyonce you got a problem with her? She will go threw you and keep on being stunning! She's had numerous controversies about her size and darker skin tone and just basically tells everyone to fuckin' deal with with it and goes out the next time and goes FURTHER.

QUEEN VOCAL GROUP

Good choices to start with but as you probably know you've barely scratched the surface of their 10 year career as a group, not to mention their solo and subunit activity. I'll pause and answer questions or make corrections as we go along. Their official debut date is June 19th rather than 18th. That sounds meaningless but it will help to translate the numerology in Moonbyl's rap when you get to their song Gogobebe. The logo at the beginning of Egotistic is just for the Red Moon album - they switch their logo design with every album. The fandom name is moomoo. Moo means radish and MMM's light stick is shaped like a radish (Korean or daikon variety). New fans are called baby radishes and are often greeted by saying Welcome to the radish field (or farm)! If that all sounds pretty dorky you might as well get used to it - it's not for nothing that Mamamoo are called beagle-dols. lol That was a jaguar, a Latin American big cat to go with the reggaeton beat and Spanish diaspora concept of the MV. There's a reason for the sexiness in Egotistic. It was the Summer/Red/Passion song from their four album series 4 Season 4 Color in which each album had a theme season & color and each title track explored a stage of love in a four part relationship cycle. In the MV each member expresses her own take on Red and Passion via their actions, wardrobe and props while representing a stage in leaving an egotistic jerk of a lover and then at the end they gather together to burn his guitar in effigy and dance in the flames. Starry Night was the Spring/Yellow/Attraction song from the 4 Season 4 Color series. In this case it's lingering attraction for a former lover. Each album included a self-composed solo song by the member assigned to that album's color. The teaser for Hwasa's song Be Calm was included at the end of the Starry Night MV to introduce that part of the project. The environmental signs in Hip weren't just there to send a message out of nowhere and they weren't just changing outfits randomly. In the MV each member plays herself and three alternate lives where they are other women who are unusual in one way or another. In that scene Wheein was an environmental activist and in others she's an artist or an indie singer/songwriter. Hip is both a diss track mocking their haters as people who spit in their own faces and a message song that re-defines Hip to mean being true to yourself and doing your own thing rather than the usual slang meaning of cool or trendy. So they're saying that the unusual women they portray deserve respect rather than social media criticism and internet bullying. MMM has never fit into kpop's standards in many ways and have been one of kpop's biggest shit magnets ever since their debut. The lyrics refer to several incidents where Hwasa was criticized for her fashion choices. Hwasa co-wrote Hip btw. It's typical of Mamamoo that rather than simply return hate for hate they used Hip to encourage those who are outside the norm to be proud of and love themselves and encourage everyone to respect others for their uniqueness and individuality. Aya is one of Mamamoo's most complex MVs and it would take a long essay to explain it or even the reason for Solar's unibrow but this comment is already long enough so I'll stop here. Others have listed their names and recommended songs, guides and other videos so I won't pile on. You can't go wrong with anything by Mamamoo no matter what you choose. Have fun!

hey-ya! og moomoo (mamamoo's fandom name) here! i love your reaction! since you seem so interested, here's some quick info on the girls -- or, rather, WOMEN: i like to say mamamoo is a group made up of women, by women and for women. a lot of their music talks about empowerment, not letting people walk over you, being confident in yourself and having fun. and fun they are, their personalities are amazing, and i'd highly recommend you watch the guide "introducing mamamoo!" by purple hawke, even if it's a bit outdated by now (i think the original no longer exists but i'm pretty sure there's reuploads). even if you don't intend to stan, it's a fun way to get to know them and their work. there's a lot that's gone into mamamoo becoming mamamoo and their story is incredible. not only that but they're one of the few (if not the only) idol groups openly supportive of the LGBTQIA+ community, bringing drag queens into their music videos multiple times and even on stage performances at award shows. speaking of which, the stage is truly where they shine the most. during their trainee years they literally built their base by performing live at different festivals and fairs and even busking. they command the stage like no other group i've seen before (and i've been in the kpop world since 2010). for a glimpse of that, i'd highly (and i mean HIGHLY) recommend their immortal songs medley, i think the video is called "mamamoo immortal songs medley". mamamoo are also trailblazers in many more aspects than people give them credit for. for example, every reactor's favorite, the "killing voices". guess who was the group who "created" it? that's right: mamamoo. solar, the leader, was a fan of "killing verse", who was a similar program done by dingo, except only for rappers. she wanted to be on it so bad that dingo CREATED "killing voice" especially for mamamoo. from then on, more and more groups came on and it became one of dingo's most popular series. mamamoo did that. also, that's another video i think you'd like: "mamamoo's killing voice". it really showcases their skill in a chill environment (they ARE called the vocal queens of kpop for a reason) all in all, mamamoo is basically if 4 solo artists decided to make a group. not surprisingly, all of them have extremely successful solo careers: solar, the leader (considered by many "korea's christina aguilera" due to her powerhouse vocals), moonbyul, the rapper (the deep-voiced one, known to write most if not all of her raps, making her one of the most credited female artists in the industry), wheein, one of the main vocals (and, from their debut to this day, one of the mos sought-after artists for collabs and features due to her honey vocals and absolute mastery of her voice), and hwasa, vocalist and sub-rapper (rising from black sheep to one of korea's number 1 it girls, and a pioneer in self-confidence and prejudice-breaking -- along with the whole group, of course) i think you'll love them teehee

They're each on their successful solo journeys now showcasing their individual talent and charms. 4 strong women. They weren't considered pretty by korean standards when they first appeared. But their hard work, appearing in college festivals, competing in musical shows showing their vocal mastery of any genre, setting trends, empowering women with their songs - all these sets them apart from other kpop girl groups. Blackpink drew me into kpop (during the pandemic) because of visuals but i stayed because of mamamoo and listen mainly to their songs. Their musicality is on a different level. They have quite a collection. I think it's because they each can also compose their own songs and don't have to wait for composers. Enjoy your journey of getting to know them better.
