Discovering Bruce Lee's Favorite Dishes At Tai Tung, Seattle's Oldest Chinese Restaurant
I decided to visit Tai Tung Restaurant located in Seattle Chinatown International District. Established in 1935, this is Seattle's oldest Chinese Restaurant. This restaurant aslo happens to be the martial artist/philosopher/legend Bruce Lee's favorite.
Once you enter the restaurant, nostalgia will automatically kick and you will be taken back in time. Tai Tung hasn't changed much (or at all) over the last many decades, and I sort of like it. As someone who grew up in Seattle in the 80's, this place brings back a lot of fond memories.
Once seated at Bruce Lee's booth in the back of the restaurant, I check out the many posters and photos of Bruce Lee and order his favorite dishes including beef in oyster sauce, garlic shrimp and cabbage soup.
After my meal I had the pleasure of catching up with Harry Chan, owner of Tai Tung. Harry has worked at the restaurant for over 50 years. He offered some advice on how and what to order when you visit Tai Tung. While I ordered Bruce Lee's favorite dishes during my visit, there's actually a different strategy that Harry offers.
Tai Tung is a must for locals and tourists alike. If you're a Bruce Lee fan or simply enjoy Chinese comfort food, this place is a must. Play this place a visit, Harry will be there to greet you!

A little bit about me...
My name is Dennis aka Lao Ocean (also aka Dr. Wtpho, but more about that later) and I'm a Lao American KZreadr based in Seattle, WA. Seattle has been my home since 1980. My videos and vlogs consist of walking tours in Seattle and abroad, travel, and things related to the Lao diaspora. I drink way too much coffee, eat pho 20PHO7, and also make food and food review videos. 🤓✌️

No frills no gimmicks, I like!
My parents took me to Tai Tung in the 50s and 60s. My wife and I were regulars in the 70s until I had to move for work. It still has the same look and feel. A wonderful and iconic Seattle restaurant for sure.

Lived in Seattle in the 70's and early 80's. Went to Tai Tung all the time. Great memories.
Tai Tung restaurant has served over 5 generations of customers. Meet restaurant owner Harry Chan and learn what his advice is on how and what to order at Tai Tung! Here’s my video on how to get to Bruce Lee’s gravesite 👉 kzread.info/dash/bejne/noFkr9J_e9qYYqg.html
I’m definitely coming to Seattle to visit this restaurant and eat Bruce Lee favorite dish!
I went to the UW and am a huge Bruce Lee Fan. I even learned JFKF from Sifu Taki Kimura, but last year, I came to the Pacific Northwest to paddle the San Juan Islands and a group of us paddlers went to Tai Tung for the 1st time! It was great! Wish I went more often so that I could have the oyster sauce beef and garlic shrimp. Maybe next time!
3years ago my daughter's took me there for dinner ,it was standing room only , the place was packed and the food was excellent 👌👍💖

What a great day to visit that restaurant
I felt exactly the same thing Dennis. When I visited I sat at the end of the table so I could take in all the views. I was made to feel so welcome and had the oyster beef sauce and the cabbage soup. Diana (his daughter) also showed me some photos of Bruce and Jesse Glover (his 1st student) doing demos. I was so overwhelmed that I made the miniature tombstone that you see in the corner. I saw it for the first time in one of your old videos. I was so impressed with the multi coloured strip lights that I put some in my Bruce Lee display cabinets. After I went to the Wing Luke Museum and saw they have the other red kick pad that I own. So in all a terrific afternoon. Thanks for posting your experience.

So I don't have a Bruce Lee favorite movie. But I did like him in The Green Hornet. I know, that's lame. But I did have a teacher at Rainier Beach High school that was also Martial Arts teacher. He was at one time Bruce Lee's teacher. I will never forget the day that kids at school told me I just missed seeing Bruce do one finger pushups in Mr. Fred Sato's classroom. I'm still disappointed to this day that I missed seeing him in person. I recently Googled Bruce Lee and Fred Sato and even found the two of them in pictures together.

It’s a common old school triad knowledge that you sit in the very back seat against the wall in a restaurant to prevent ambush attack since you can see everyone coming in and escape thru the back gate quickly if needed.
The food looks really good.I am listing the Restaurants that you have in your videos. As kids back in the day,we wanted too be skilled in Martial Arts just like him so some of us in the Neighborhood took Martial Arts Lessons. He along with his movies were a big inspiration. Really enjoyed seeing the Restaurants interior.

@@LaoOcean you won't be disappointed. I am not a fan of the dish, because it usually isn't great, it won me over🙂 we also got the Mongolian beef, which was awesome. They are super nice and the chef came out and chatted with us. Great spot!

@@milleijones2828 I would also recommend Enter the Dragon, It was Bruce's last completed film and a bit more tailored for a Western audience. But any Bruce Lee film is good.

Watch the Chinese connection starting bruce lee you will not regret it
My Dad was friends with Bruce back in the day. We also used to go to Tai Tung all of the time when I was little, in the 70’s. The Bruce Lee thing was NEVER a thing at the restaurant back then. It’s a relatively recent thing they are touting to promote business. My Dad said it’s largely a bunch of BS. Bruce lived in the basement of Ruby Chow’s Chinese Restaurant during his time in Seattle. Ruby’s son, Shelton was best man at my parents wedding. They both hung with Bruce quite a bit and both took lessons from him.
Don't know how it got the fame but a Chinese restaurant without chopsticks on the tables sounds like a red flag to me. Tried the food myself and it was ghastly.
tai tung Harry
Bruce Lee’s Seattle Chinese Restaurant was Ruby Chow’s close to the UW district. I’ve been to Tai Tung’s many times over the years and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of anything having to do with Bruce Lee being associated with Tai Tung’s Restaurant. Nice try though.

Bruce Lee worked at Ruby Chow’s, but frequented Tai Tung as a customer. It’s been proven that he loved this restaurant by members of the Chan family, who have owned the restaurant since the 30’s. Nice try though.
Who is Bruce Lee?????
