Discover the Ultimate Surfaces for Gouache Painting
Exploring the right painting surface can significantly optimize the outcome of your artwork! In this video, I unfold my most preferred surfaces for gouache painting, opening doors to a landscape of rich, colorful possibilities.
As an artist, finding the right surface for your craft is as important as choosing the right colors for your palette. Every surface interacts differently with gouache, affecting the texture, the blend, the intensity of colors, and the overall impression of your picture.
Each gouache substrate can render a distinctive character to your artwork, and part of the love for painting is experimenting to discover what fits your unique artistic style. By knowing how each surface reacts to gouache, you can expand your approach and tweak the application to suit your chosen surface, technically and creatively enhancing your artistry.
Whether you're eager to stick to the classics or ready to venture the roads less traveled, this video has a surface that will appeal to your art sense.

Nice review about surfaces and gouache. Recently I started using Rembrandt toned paper ( desert brown). It's very smooth more than hot pressed paper...easy to spread and blend gouache. I don't know I can never like rough texture as I go for details and I like to move and push paint on the surface which is impossible on cold or rough pressed paper.

Yes, but rough texture is interesting for landscapes for example
I love using gouache on the canvas boards.

@@CecileYadro Yes similar to what you have done. It was a dog portrait and flower arrangement. Still learning here thats why I watch painting videos like your channel. Your channel is very helpful for beginners like me.
Those are all great paintings onthe various surfaces. Have you ever tried to paint gouache on glass or metal before? For containers 🫙? I am curious to know if the paint would peel off of those. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video with us! I have enjoyed learning so much from your work & channel!

Thanks a lot Colleen! I never tried on glass or metal. I don’t have flat metal to paint on, and for jars I’d use Posca markers or acrylic paint I think. it would certainly peel off, and it’s not waterproof. I assume that jars might get wet, so not a good idea.
Hi Cecile Can I use Gouache on an acrylic pad?
@CecileYadro
5 ай бұрын
I think so but it depends on the pad, some are very slippery and it won’t be easy to move the paint on it.
Hmm… “Gouache Queen”, eh? Who knew such existed? 😂
