Ray Noble was certainly the top of the crop band leader and composer in those elegant nostalgic and sweet days. Which is how we would like it to be imagined…. Cheers!
First song is truly charming.
Thanks again for these beatifull music. Kindest regards
British bands in the 1930s had their own unique sound. Ray noble wrote and directed a lot of his own compositions for instance.

OMG!! I didn’t know the Noble recording of “At Twilight” existed! I first knew the tune when I was an NCSU freshman, it being included in the Columbia LP re-release by Paul Whiteman...such a great tune, played slow or medium...and “Alone with My Dreams”...now, that’s one of the best tunes of the early ‘30s...and that arrangement, and Jack Plante snd those Orpheans! Wow...and, as if those weren’t enough in this expanded medley, then there’s “You Are Too Beautiful” by Carroll Gibbons’ Boy Friends...one of Rodgers & Hart’s best tunes...yessir, good listening indeed...
just delightful--again many, many thanks for posting

I'm running out of superlatives to describe these sets! I'm always on the lookout for Brit sides I haven't heard, so this collection, which has several, just thrills. Favorites for me include Noble's "At Twilight"; Ambrose's "Making Faces ..." and "Then I'll Be Tired"; Jackson's "Goodnight ..." and "Because It's Love"; Gibbons' "You Are Too Beautiful" and "Two Sleepy People" and Jay Wilbur's "London On A Rainy Night." These are just knockouts, absolutely lovely.

This generation of kids love it. The worse it is, the better. It's being pushed for the sake of sales of it to them and they flock to hear it. Now and then something appears that indicates musical talent among vocalists, for instance. But there's no serious composing going on now. Once got told that it's because the combinations of musical notes has been used and discovered in this day, but I rather feel that's b******t. I'm still left wondering why.

@@petertaylor3600 i am in my 50's and my fave sounds were created before I was born. I have also read a great deal about the cultural shifts created by rock and roll- and the alleged evil associated with it. I have seen interviews with old biddies going full 'karen' on the music. and the cycle continues. there is nothing worse than becoming old in heart and in mind. open yourselves up to the current stuff -don't become the generation you despised.
