Ada's mother, Annabella, was a also a mathematician. Byron called his wife 'the Princess of Parallelograms'. Their marriage was not a happy one and Byron left England and his family for good when Ada was just over a year old. Annabella wouldn't allow Ada to see her father's portrait.
