Innova owned 100% of the molds, Discmania only ever owned the names, so all the discmania ones are slightly changed and all the innova ones are the originals but in their normal plastics, not the veryyyyy slightly changed ones make for discmania from before

Except if you look at the dimensions on the PDGA approval site even the new Innova molds don’t match the original Discmania dimensions. Pretty sure those original molds are never coming back.

@@subspaceanomaly that may be what their site says but the PDGA approval for the discs lists different Height and Rim Depth. They are close but not the same. If it was the same mold the measurements would be identical.

@@michaelsimons3529 pretty sure PDGA approval is based on individual discs and they can definietly differ. If Innova says they are the original molds I would trust them first and PDGA listings second

First video I found from your guys’ channel. Absolutely love the energy, chemistry, and production quality!! I don’t hit that like button even for channels that I watch regularly. The dark rebel is actually the original FD mold. Also the C line FD is more like champion plastic which is more over stable, so a star dark rebel and S line FD are probably going to be a better comparison. The flight numbers are exactly the same also, just something to think about.

You’re totally right, the Dark Rebel is the original mold. 👍🏻 Hailey King and others have called the Hawkeye a revamped FD, which is why we put it against Discmania’s new FD. But you’re also right that the C-Line plastic is more stable than the S-Line-that’s definitely a factor! If Discmania had their new S-Line FD out that probably would have been a better comparison to the Halo Hawkeye. Appreciate the comment, man!!

Been throwing Teebirds, Leopards, Eagles for years…. Bought an FD a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. I describe it as a glidier, more nuetral Eagle.

Just picked up both these discs myself. One minor correction, Hawkeye is a TL derivative. It is 99% the same dimensions except 1.7 cm in height compared to 1.6 cm for the TL. That is literally the only change in the mold. But love the channel, side-by-side throws with follow flight rocks. Keep up the good work.

Did they just add a spacer? If you look at the parting line it will be really wide instead of a pencil thin line. This is the only difference between the Aviar P&A and the P2. The Halo Teebirds they released recently are the same. Big ass spacer makes them super beefy Teebirds.

You're 100% correct! The Dark Rebel is the original FD, and although the way Derek introduced the discs was a little off (shows how much research HE does), we were seeing a lot of chatter about the Hawkeye being a revamped FD of sorts (same flight numbers minus 1 glide). So that's why we were stacking it up against Discmania's new FD mold. ...but comparing it to a Dark Rebel might have made more sense, yes. 😂

Do you guys automate the follow flights or track them manually in your editing software?

We tracked them manually using the Ace Trace app (which fills in the gaps automatically and smooths the line for you). It’s a great app with a $12 per year subscription to actually be able to export your videos with the follow flights.

I have a Star Hawkeye and MF C-Line FD. Hawkeye has a much larger dome to it, with a taller shoulder and taller wing. Both are a bit different in flight, so I bag both. The FD is noticeably more stable than the Hawkeye in the combos I have. Both great discs!

Haha yes, it is - you’re correct! There were lots of people calling the Hawkeye a retooled FD though (including Hailey King), so that’s why we chose to compare these two discs. You’re 100% right though!

Did you guys know that Innova also released the "Fairway Disc", which is actually the old FD? I think they said that the Hawkeye, since it's in the Halo plastic, behaves slightly differently than the Fairway Disc.

You’re correct! Innova came out with the original disc, which Discmania then ran with until they left, at which point Innova re-released the disc as “The Dark Rebel.” It’s been quite the journey for that mold! 😅

@@3dudesdg Pretty sure what Caleb is trying to say is why are you comparing the Hawkeye and not the Dark Rebel? The Hawkeye is a new disc, not something "retooled". This is just a comparison of two new discs, nothing has been "retooled" here. Discmania's new FD can't be the same as the Dark Rebel, it would a patent violation. I would guess Discmania used a coordinate measuring machine to attain the dimensions of the Dark Rebel and then made some very minor changes to make it slightly different to avoid patent issues while also using slightly different flight numbers. And like most here are saying the real comparison should be the Dark Rebel vs the new Discmania FD.

@@stitch438 Yes, agreed! The better comparison would be the Dark Rebel and the new FD. Didn’t say it well in our response to Caleb, but we understand that Discmania had to create a new disc and Innova retained the rights to the original mold. We were operating off of some faulty info when we planned and filmed this video and later found out the Hawkeye wasn’t technically a retooled FD. The comparison is still fun though as their flight numbers are so similar and both discs have a lot of hype around them. Appreciate the clarification!

Having not read any of the comments here is what is up with the mold. Innova owns the mold not the FD name. Also, the Hawkeye is Hailey King Tour Series but the “stock” version is a Dark Rebel which is Run in C and S

You’re correct! The Dark Rebel is the original FD. We’re calling the Hawkeye a retooled FD based off of what Hailey King and others have said and the specs of the disc. They’re definitely in the same family, but end up flying VERY differently after getting beat in even just a little bit lol.

Can someone in the know please tell me if Innova actually owns the rights to all the Discmania old molds? I thought Discmania had ownership of the molds and Innova was just the plastic source and the means to produce them 🤷. One more thing when the heck is someone going to make some more P-Line PD'S 😣😖😫😤? Any information would be appreciated 👍✌️.

As far as we know, Innova retained the rights to the original molds (or at least some/most of them) and Discmania retained all the names. …but we’ve been wrong before lol. 😆

Innova changes their dimensions ever so slightly pretty often, not to mention the cooling of the plastic changing the characteristics, so run to run, they may be different. I have several Teebirds and they all fly completely differently. Some domey, some board flat, some sharp wings, some blunt wings.

The Innova Dark Rebel is the original FD.

Innova has an original fd mold and it's called a dark rebel. The Hawkeye was made by hailey king and is a completely new mold. If you're going to be putting out information you should probably fact check or just don't speak on what you don't know.

But yes, the Hawkeye is a new mold (actually more similar to the TL if we’re going off of flight numbers), but it was being called a retooled FD by Hailey and others. That’s why we were referring to it that way and comparing these two new discs. Dark Rebel and the new FD would be the “truer” FD comparison though, which you and many others have pointed out haha. the Hawkeye is a renamed TL 7/5/-1/1which came out in 2007 I would then imply the FD 7/6/-1/1 released in 2011 was a clone TL. Those who have thrown a TL and an FD know they have the same amount of glide and fly the same.

Yep - you’re 100% correct!

The Hawkeye is not using the TL mold. I have (all at 173-175g) a Star TL, Halo Star Hawkeye, "Dark Rebel" Fairway Disc in Star and Champion plastic, and the original FD in D-Line and S-Line plastic, and the TL stands out pretty easily as different than all the others. 1) It's flight plate is slightly flatter in the middle 3 inches of its diameter, 2) the lower rim profile is slightly less concave. People are putting too much focus on the PDGA numbers, which are not indicative of the discs in the real world. Many of them are .1cm off in the rim height and thickness, and domeyness often is affected by weather conditions. Hailey King and Holley Finley have both said the Hawkeye is the new FD. Dave Dunipace said it's a new mold, but real world comparison it's no different in any way I can tell from them. Maybe Innova created a new mold and coincidentally it has identical specs in real life. (whew) With all that said, the new Discmania FD I also have, and it's noticeably a different disc, but not by a lot. I'll be doing a comparison of these discs on my channel in the next couple weeks, but I wanted to share this with you since you have done so much work already in comparing the Hawkeye and the new FD. 🙂
