DISASTER WHEEL CLEANING. Koch Chemie Wheel Cleaner did not cut the mustard. Who saved the day??

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

DISASTER Wheel Cleaning. 13 years of dirt and grime. This wheel is used as a spare on my 4x4 truck and has been on and off the truck as well as hanging under the truck for 13 years. It has never been cleaned or taken care of. This is a great test for a wheel cleaner. Disaster wheel cleaning. Today I try a new product from a well respected company, Koch Chemie Magic Wheel Cleaner MWC. SPOILER ALERT: It as not able to cut through this level of grime. I had to use Adams Wheel and Tire Cleaner to finish the job.
My thoughts on this wheel cleaning.
Koch Chemie magic wheel cleaner is a good wheel cleaner that has a iron remover and a medium amount of cutting power. For maintenance washes and normal wheel cleaning this would be more than enough. It has an eggy smell from the iron remover and the spray bottle is not very effective at delivering product in a timely manner. It took a lot of pumps from the bottle to cover the wheel. I used about a half of the bottle to clean this wheel and it was still filthy. At $20 a bottle (at the time of the filming) that's too much for me. KEEP IN MIND: This wheel was crazy dirty and the grime was baked on so these are not normal wheel cleaning conditions.
Adams Wheel and Tire Cleaner: Easily cut the grime off like a hot knife through warm butter. It took no effort at all to clean this wheel. I was shocked at how easy it was in comparison to the Koch Chemie Wheel Cleaner. It sprayed on with foamy thick coverage that easily covered the entire wheel. The level of browning removal was impressive. Slickness on the wheel was very good. My vote is with Adams Wheel & Tire Cleaner.
A good wheel cleaner should:
Spray on thick and cling to the surface.
Cut through grime and brake dust without risk of damaging the clear coat. (reasonable PH Level)
Foam up nice while agitating and provide lubricity to the surface to minimize scratching
Remove grime with minimum agitation.
Restore tire back to black removing tire browning with the least amount of effort.
Be economical and dillutable.
Be available from source you prefer to support. (always an important factor when all else is equal)
Let me know what you think the best wheel cleaner is? What wheel cleaner do you use when you have a disaster wheel cleaning? Thanks for watching and if you have any questions about auto detailing or garage related tools and products let e know in the comments.

I want to clarify a few things. The MWC product description is as follows: The Magic Wheel Cleaner is a powerful, viscous, acid-free rim cleaner that provides innovative performance to mildly and thoroughly clean rims and rim wells. Its reactive component dissolves iron particles with characteristic red discoloration. Special dispersing agents gently remove stubborn dirt from surfaces. My intentions for the video was to test it on the rim, barrels and why not tires while I am at it. I know it does not claim to clean tires but most other wheel cleaners do so i tried it anyway. I sprayed it on the dry rim face and tires to give an undiluted application with maximum dwell time. After pressure washing it off re-applying and scrubbing for a while I decided to switch to Adams wheel and tire cleaner to get the job done. This was not my original plan. I just knew MWC was not cleaning like I wanted it to. That is not to say its not a good product in different circumstances. I think MWC is best used as an iron remover to add another layer of cleaning to the wheel cleaning process. The problem I have with this is the name on the bottle and the product description on the bottle and the website do not mention anything about using companion products to complete the work. They say its a magic wheel cleaner and describe it as removing stubborn dirt from surfaces. I am sure for mild maintenance type clean ups where a delicate cleaner is needed to not damage rim surfaces or not strip off protection this is a great product. You do not always need to have the strongest possible cleaner for each job. I am always asked to test these products in the worst case scenario and products sometimes don't hold up to that challenge or were not intended to do that type of work. I am a fan of Koch Chemie and like some of the products they offer. Clearly written product description and user expectations would help this product out for sure. koch Chemie is famous for users mixing home brews to get the most out of the products. This is cool too. I like it but many consumers want a ready to go product. I try my hardest to stay on label when I test each product. I want my viewers to see my real thoughts, a real test and honest review with no BS. One last thing Adams wheel and tire did the back of the rim, tire and barrels in one application and easily removed this grime with no effort so it was not an impossible cleanup. Hahahaha. Thanks for following the channel. I have a big 2022 planned and I plan to do a video 1 day a week and more when I can. I appreciate each and every subscriber and want to help you in anyway that I can. Don't hesitate to ask me anything.

Great review! Koch is not meant to be used on tires. However, Adams still did better cleaning the wheels. Tires too, but that was expected. You’re correct that the cleaner will be diluted through the foam cannon. Heavily diluted, actually. It’s a good method for maintenance cleaning. 👍🏼

but you diluted the second time you applied the product onto a wet wheel.. there's no point in applying it then rinsing it off. that's a complete waste. just pressure wash wheel first then apply product let sit a minute then scrub and rinse or all away. no need to blow through product. to "see what it'll do" on its own. lol. get the job done and don't waste time

Loved the review, Jeremy! To be fair, MWC does not state anywhere on the bottle that it should be used on tires. They’ve never advertised it as a wheel and tire cleaner. With that said, I was surprised on how poorly it performed on the wheel cleaning aspect. It looks like it does a better job at cleaning heavily baked on brake dust than it does trying to clean off grime like the wheels in this video. I hope you continue to test MWC in future videos on other heavily dirty wheels. Thank you!

  • @HawaiiDetailing

Yes I agree. With a name like magic wheel cleaner I was hoping for more action on the rims. I have determined its a better iron remover than wheel cleaner. I just wished they would sort out their names and descriptions to be more understandable to the general public. Thanks for watching and I will definitely give it another chance. I am a fan of koch chemie for sure. The problem with youtube is people want to see the hardest cleaning possible and when you do it some products don't hold up and others shine. That definitely does not mean that its not a great product it just may be suited more for delicate clean ups where stripping off dirt and grime is not needed. This would be great for removing light brake dust and not stripping away protection. Thanks for watching.

I was going to comment this as well. I did a set of nasty wheels and tires and I only used MWC for the wheel, and something stronger for the tires. Some thing like Shine Supply Wise Guy, or Optimum Power Clean straight on tires. I think maybe if you had different tools for cleaning the wheels it would help; I don't think just the wheel brush is enough for wheels and tires that hammered. I've used MWC on really dirty wheels, dirty with allt of brake dust, and just break dust. I think MWC did a good job and I love the way it foams and pulls dirt. I think any wheel cleaner on wheels like this need multiple times of agitation, and re-application.

If a product designed specifically for wheel cleaning can’t do better than a product that does wheels and tires, it’s a no-brainer. Koch Chemie made a big push on KZread when they entered the US market. Nice to see someone finally giving an honest opinion rather than unearned flattery just because Koch Chemie gave out free product.

It’s a chemistry equation, KC is on the acidic side of the PH scale, where PnS is on the alkaline side of the scale. So depending on what was on the rim one will work better than the other, if it’s dirt and mud the likely the alkaline cleaner will perform better but if it iron and other metal/minerals for break dust etc the acidic cleaner will probably work better.

  • @perfectshave85
    @perfectshave85 Жыл бұрын

To be fair, the Koch product is really more of an Iron Remover than a wheel cleaner. Similar to Iron X by CarPro. This wheel and rim was loaded with dirt, mud and grime and didn't look like it had much brake dust/iron particles on it, otherwise it would be turned red after the Koch was applied. I found Iron removers are not great at cleaning a dirty rim but are great at taking off brake dust/iron particles. Probably doesn't help that Koch do label it as a 'Wheel cleaner' and not an Iron Remover but Gyeon and even Meguiars do the same. Iron Removers do almost nothing on dirty tyres also. The Adams wheel and tyre cleaner is amazing for dirty wheels and tyres. I find it even better than P&S Brake Buster but it is more expensive. On a truly dirty and brake-dusted rim though, I use both an Iron Remover and then a wheel cleaner to get the cleanest result.

Nice review Jeremy… thanks for sharing. The Adams T&W cleaner is easily their best product. I like that it can be diluted 1:1 for the majority of jobs making it a solid value. Yes I know. I agree with you. Thanks. Everyone asked me to test it on a tough wheel. I did. It was like spaying on a glass of milk. That’s funny. Hahaha. I get it and understand it’s best uses. I wrote about it in the description. They need better product labeling because the bottle and description reads like a magical wheel cleaner that promises to be great on tough grime but its more like an iron remover that has mild detergents for light to medium maintenance washes. In that lane it’s a great product. I love Koch chemie products and I had no intention of being hard on it when I bought it. Even though I love them I have to share my personal thoughts on products with everyone either way good or bad. In this case the bottom line is I did not really enjoy using this product as much as I had hoped I would and there are better options out there. I am always looking for the next great product. Thanks for watching. I did the entire back of the rim, tire and barrel with Adam's only. That's what Adam's did on its own. My opinion is I started to get frustrated with having to work so hard with MWC that I switched to Adams just get the job done with less hassle. This was not my original plan for the video. I knew from my experience that it was not the right product for this type of work. This does not mean its not a good product overall. It just did not do well in this exact test. Admittedly a nasty 13 year baked on mess was a big ask for any product. Thanks.

About 10 years ago turtle wax had a wheel cleaner that said do not agitate and smelled really acidic (don’t know if it was) but a wheel this bad and the brake dust would just run right off the wheel with it. My 2010 f150 with stock aluminum wheels had a clear film protectant over the wheels it wasn’t a clear coat and it started pealing around the edges but very unnoticeable. This video just reminded me of it and I’d like to see if I could find it again.

It could just be me being color blind or something but your wheel and tire cleaner looks blue, rather than purple/pinkish. Is that just the lighting or whatever? It just had me curious because I also didn't see it turning red on the rim like most iron remover containing products do these days, but you're getting phenomenal results on the tires and seeing it pull out the browning before it's even agitated was super impressive and that's more of what I'm looking for right now. I have wheels covered with all sorts of available products but tires, specifically browning, has been a tough thing to tackle for me so far. Anyway I only ask because I want to pick up a bit for my own use and just wanted to make sure I'm buying the correct product and correct version of the product but the Amazon Adams wheel and tire cleaner looks like a different color compared to yours and I'd like to get exactly what you're using.
