*Disaster* Nintendo Switch USB C Replacement

* I apologise for the Audio only being on the left side*
Join me as I attempt my first ever USB C port swap in a Nintendo Switch Lite. This was not a quick fix by any means. Come join in the despair, and see if I actually manage to change it.

Well guys that was a bit of a mess. This port change almost killed me. Please be more careful than me when removing the ribbons, looking back I near ripped the Game card one. This video was a nightmare : the time skip at 16:49 was me removing the melted port and trying again. Maybe one day I will get a quick fix.

I needed the win 🤣 There’s a new switch video coming next week that took me so long. There should be a bit of swearing and nearly crying in that too .🥲

Hello, I remember watching this video when it came out, thinking I would never attempt something like this. Yesterday, I mustered up some courage and tried changing the USB port on a regular switch. Man, it was pure pain! I went through two ports with no luck. I installed the third and last one, and everything went well, except the board got bent slightly at the last moment because I pushed down on the port 😅. When testing, nothing was showing on the meter, and I thought I had killed the switch. I looked to my left and, surprise, the charger was unplugged! I plugged it in and tested it, and everything worked. It was extremely satisfying in the end, and I learned a lot. I revisited this video to say thank you. It really helped me to keep going, knowing it's okay if things don't go according to plan on the first try.

Mate this is bloody brilliant. Im glad my video helped. It does seem like burning USB C ports is a right of passage with these. Imagine having the charger unplugged, so silly. If you've watched my other videos though I do loads of silly things. I'm really pleased for you :) Ignoring all the pain, seeing the console come to life at the end is the best part :)

@QTronics I've seen some of those moments, lol. Those ports are made of chocolate, I tell you!

Massive well done to you mate, persistence is key and you didn't give up. I can't tell you how many I messed up before fine tuning my personal method. It'll come with practice and you'll have your own way of being comfortable with it, good stuff mate, should be proud of yourself.

Thanks dude :). You make it look too easy! I've done it again since, on a V1 and only melted one port :) So I'm getting better :) Why does it always look so easy on KZread haha .

I had different challenges, but it was still very tricky! Took forever. I couldn't get the solder wicked out of hold down holes causing the port to sit at an angle. Had bridged pads. etc. At the moment it only works when the usb-c is facing one direction. I'm guessing the hidden pins are disconnected. I think I might walk away from it, for now. Thanks for sharing! I feel your pain.

Ah, i’ve since done it on another. I still messed up one port trying to do it. However it felt much easier. If you have some more ports, id say give it another go. It is much harder than the youtube videos make it seem i can tell you that. Thanks :) glad you enjoyed the video

when a switch lite battery is super low it trickle charges for a while until it gets to a certain percentage then speeds up.

Yeah I think I was more worried because it was pulling the full 15v i didn’t think it would do that. Thanks for the info :)

I know the one tool measures voltage and amperage, but what is that other one, like a continuity tester? I can see it's showing which connections got missed. Where can I find one??

My dude! I was searching so hard, but I didn't even know what to call it. I have several tools by mechanic, some better than others (avoid the solder fume extractor!). So, big questions, and please correct me, is this essentially just grounding against the shield and checking each pin in diode mode? What I mean, is I see it gives the values, but what *are* those values?

Yeah exactly what you said, giving you diode reading. Good tool for just checking if you’re getting the right readings.
