So what was the point of the upside down motor on that model of Bridgeport?? I saw a series 1 CNC on CL recently and honestly thought someone modified the head for some stupid reason lol

Honestly, we aren't sure why they decided to put the motor upside down, but Barry thinks it was a height issue. Putting the motor that way frees up some space.

A friend got a series 1 and wanted to rewire it from 480v to 220v but he opened the cover and found only 3 wires. He was quite puzzled as the cover plate showed the wiring diagram with 9 wires as you show here. Any idea why this would be?

Sometimes the other 6 wires are tucked inside of the motor cover. If there are truly only 3 wires, then someone had that motor rewound for 440VAC only. It either needs to be rewound or completely replaced. -Jon

How hard is it to make a three phase motor into single phase motor?

Not as hard as you would think. We sell a solid state phase converter that can take it to 220V single phase. If you would like to give us a call with any questions you can ask for Jon or Barry 1-800-285-5271. You can also search for PC02VS on the website for more information. www.machinerypartsdepot.com

Not that hard actually. Get yourself a VFD, do a bit of research and find one rated correctly for your motor. Basically they are wired in as single phase 120/220 volt. They output three phase 220 volts that you wire into the motors normal leads. This is remarkably easier than somehow internally rewinding the coils on your motor, and you gain the features of the VFD. Variable speed being the largest feature. Now can you internally rewire a motor to run single phase? I believe you can but that requires more knowledge and skill that most of us just don't have. And in doing so you will lose a large part of the motors power. A full motor replacement and fabricating a adapter plate is far more easier than cracking open a motor and rebuilding the internals.

The handle of the screwdriver is designed to have a box wrench slipped over it if you dont want to use pliers and mar your handle. Thank you for sharing.
