Dirty Dancing is a 1987 American romantic drama dance film written by Eleanor Bergstein, produced by Linda Gottlieb, and directed by Emile Ardolino. Starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze, it tells the story of Frances "Baby" Houseman (Grey), a young woman who falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Swayze) at a vacation resort.
The film was based on screenwriter Bergstein's own childhood. She originally wrote a screenplay for the Michael Douglas film It's My Turn, but ultimately ended up conceiving a story for a film which became Dirty Dancing. She finished the script in 1985, but management changes at MGM put the film in development hell. The production company was changed to Vestron Pictures with Emile Ardolino as director and Linda Gottlieb as producer. Filming took place in Lake Lure, North Carolina, and Mountain Lake, Virginia, with the film's score composed by John Morris and dance choreography by Kenny Ortega.
Dirty Dancing premiered at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival on May 12, 1987, and was released on August 21, 1987, in the United States, earning over $214 million worldwide, and was the first film to sell more than a million copies for home video. It earned positive reviews from critics, who particularly praised the performances of Grey and Swayze, and its soundtrack, created by Jimmy Ienner, generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles. "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
The film's popularity led to a 2004 prequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, and a stage version which has had sellout performances in Australia, Europe, and North America. A made-for-TV remake was also released in 2017.
Filming started for Dirty Dancing on September 5, 1986, and lasted just 43 days. The production had to battle bad weather, including outside temperatures of 105 °F (41 °C). With the camera and lighting equipment needed for filming, the temperature inside could be as high as 120 °F (49 °C). According to choreographer Kenny Ortega, 10 people passed out within 25 minutes of shooting one day.[36] Paula Trueman collapsed and was taken to the local emergency room to be treated for dehydration. Patrick Swayze also required a hospital visit; insisting on doing his own stunts, he repeatedly fell off the log during the "balancing" scene and injured his knee so badly he had to have fluid drained from the swelling.
Delays in the shooting schedule pushed filming into the autumn, which required the set decorators to spray-paint the autumn leaves green. The weather became cold, causing the lake's temperatures to drop to near 40 °F (4 °C) for the famous swimming scene, which was filmed in October. Despite her character's enjoyment, Grey later described the water as "horrifically" cold, and she might not have gone into the lake, except that she was "young and hungry

I visited the Lake Lure location about a year or so after the movie came out. Got some nice pics of Johnnys cabin, the dance studio room, the final dance scene
“Makes a clay vase with a little boy” 😂😂😂. That’s gold 🤣🤣🤣
Loved loved Dirty Dancing.I watch that movie over and over again.Loved Patrick Swayze 🙏🕯️
Awesome Video Scott I Absolutely Enjoyed It🤩 Honored to have attended 25th Anniversary Of Lionsgate's "Dirty Dancing" screening at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on August 21, 2012 in Hollywood, California. Jennifer Grey introduced the movie and Started crying Because she said she shouldn't have to be here without Patrick Swayze!
The wooden rectangle you seen in the lake is the remains of the lift stage they built so Patrick and Jennifer could stand on during the lift and the cinder blocks were there to anchor It Down
Total respect for you Scott. You always work hard even after the 100k subscribers you don't stop. Shows how dedicated you are and work hard to show us this content. Your the best. You are a living legend my friend 👏
This is awesome! I lived near lake lure when I was a kid. I was able to go across the bridge like Baby did and walk up the stairs. It was a few years after the movie came out so everything was still there. Great video! 😊👍

My mama loved this movie so much now she’s in heaven with Patrick S.
My parents took my childhood bestie and I to the boys camp filming location in Lake Lure back in the summer of 89. We saw Johnny’s Cabin (yes, where the scene with them dancing etc. to Cry to Me was filmed), the place to which Baby carried the watermelon and saw Johnny and Penny dirty dancing and the theatre/playhouse where the end of the season talent show and last dance with the successful lift took place. The bridge was also still there at the time. Unfortunately I don’t see where I can share pictures here but I do have pictures of the stone steps with the bridge and Johnny’s Cabin. I think the theatre/playhouse still had some of the stands with the K that were in front of some of the orchestra and brass band members. Watching your video I had the aha or maybe duh moment that Newman was in Dirty Dancing and Jurassic Park and I also realized that I have been/walked somewhere no one can ever go again because it’s been removed or has burned down. Kinda sad but awesome too in a way. Thanks for taking me down memory lane and enlightening me to the fact that I was truly a part of history.

Thank you for sharing your story Heather !
Great video Scott! Can you imagine if they had kept those cabins and the stairs were open to the public, they would have a gold mine, but I heard that the cabins at the camp were torn down after the movie wrapped filming. Little did they know!
Scott, you're hilarious!!! "This town's dead", the puns, your off-the-cuff comments... thank you for bringing us this adventure!!! We sure had the time of our lives ;)
OMG this might be my favorite video you've done. And that's saying a lot! Plus this is my favorite Dirty Dancing video by far. Rest in peace Patrick Swayze and Jerry Orbach. So great seeing you there with Adam. Been following his channels for years. Much love to you guys from Pittsburgh! ❤️
Loved this movie and still do! I have been waiting on this one! Awesome that you and Adam found so many locations! Sharing this one! RIP Patrick you are so missed.

I loved this movie so much, what an amazing soundtrack too! The locations are beautiful, I love that they have signs for each spot they used.

Excellent work, guys!! Just a bit of more info: if you were able to climb the steps to the top, you'd see the stone walls from the foundation/lower floor of the watermelon dance building. It is in someones backyard now, but they left it there. I could see shadows of it on satellite view.
I've been there. Beautiful memories comes back to me now. I came there all the way from POLAND 2 months ago that big fan of Dirty Dancing I am. Thank you for this video
I love this movie. I even now still watch it all the time. When I was younger I styled my hair like Baby’s, listened to the music, and pretended to be her. It’s such a shame there is no water in the lake.
The very best part of this video is the Leslie Jordan clip. I loved that man like he was a brother. I lost a brother in 2022, and when Leslie died, I cried just as hard.
I am obsessed with this movie! I went to lake lure last summer to find all of these locations, I had trouble locating the stairs. You killed it! Best location video ever!

SCOTT this is the first movie I ever got on VHS tape I was born in 1980 I've watched this movie so much I know it word for word thank you so much for taking us along with another one of your Fantastic Adventures!!!!!
Now I have to watch Dirty Dancing again! It's been way too long. What an awesome video, Scott! You never disappoint. I love the rock in Virginia that serves as a tribute to the late, great Patrick Swayze. May he RIP. The hallway in Virginia was very Shining-esque. I thought that right away. Great video. I don't think you digress, you just think out loud and it all serves its purpose in your narration. It's what makes you so funny so never change ❤
How fricken cool that you ran into Adam the Woo. You are both my absolute favorite!!! Great video Scott!
Hey Scott, I used to live in Christiansburg, have been to mountain lake a few times. It's beautiful up there. That road getting to it , though , ugh! Thanks for this! Nobody puts baby in the corner! There was a body in that lale, thst was discovered, it was from way way back in the 30s or 40s. You ought to look that up and do a video on that.

Oh... The Woo!!! He was my1st KZread channel I watched many years ago when he lived in LA before COVID hit. On a different note and back to your channel... I love the blend of your humor with your sincerity when it is called for. There are some channels that are watched for the content and others for the character/personality of the creators. Your channel is both for me.

Neat locations, funny as usual. I’ve watched Dirty Dancing too many times to count. Thanks for sharing this Scott 👍👏❤️ oh and digress away 💪🏼
Loved this so much, what a treat! DD is one of my favorite movies ever & I couldn't guess at how many times I've seen it. (Enough to know all the lines by heart much to the pain of anyone watching it with me.) Patrick wrote "She's Like the Wind" about his wife, Lisa Niemi. He loved Finnish women....😍😁 My only disappointment is that you didn't do the dance up the Baby steps. Sigh! What a treat and congrats on 100k! 🕺💃👏👏
Absolutely loved this vlog! Thank you so much!
