He's sending another car out to help pack in the track. He was waiting for an opening big enough to where the cars on the track weren't surprised by the car he was waving on. This Old man knows exactly what he's doing. He also knows that the line of sight when you're in a racecar with a full face helmet on is very restrictive and there's a ton of blind spots.

​@@rylanjochim9796they pack the track in reverse to avoid ppl going faster then a idle or trying to use packing time as a hot lap session and it helps to keep the dirt from clumping up and huge chunks flying and making holes cause it's packed in opposite direction of what you race in there is a few good reasons for doing it like this. My track I race at has a tractor with this huge rack of 50 dirt tires on I that all rolls and it has 10k lbs of weight on top of it and they use that to help pack the track it's faster makes a tighter packed surface and we barley get any holes in the track and the track stays wettwr longer and doesn't dry out as fast then if it was packed with just cars

Going the opposite way on the track during mud pack is a way to insure that the dirt/ clay bonds together more firmly so later in the night it won't tear up from the same brooming direction from the tires. Most tracks do this method. 👍

​@@51-FS Most all Southern tracks use this method. Even up here in Ohio & Pennsylvania they use this method. I know Tony uses the backwards packing method at Eldora too. 👍
