    I am so glad that you decided to do a story on these 3 cams. I just found out that the 1.5 existed. I brought the sloppy stage 2 and purchased stage one for a milder build, And never heard the stage 3 but I think I may use the 3 in my main build instead of the 2 because it sounds way more radical but Semi tamed the car is not shaking . I'm guessing the 1.5 is for individuals whom don't want to upgrade cylinder heads but they want a little bit of boost in the kubush you know. Once again teacher you've been a great help I truly appreciate you. Thank you. I would have chimed in live with you today but I have to go eat lunch 😊

    We sold lots of Elgin, Wolverine, Melling and other cams ground by the big 3 "Detroit" production grinders. Their FT HYD and Mech cams are mostly obsolete however the roller cams can't be that old. I'd check the timing for ANY cam, at least check the springs and do new valve stem seals. Many hot rod cam grinders rebox these cams. The seat durations are given in SAE which is .006 at the valve or .004 with a 1.5 rocker so the durations look a little long compared to say Comp cams which gives durations at .006 at the lifter. These cams are designed to be user installed and trouble, they do not "Push" the lifter side loading, i.e.not a winner for heads up racing but great for brackets. Their FT cams may not be the latest masters but still wear well.

    I was previously running the 1.5 but did not know that's what it was called. In my .020" over 6.0L with factory injectors, 799 heads, and gen 3 intake like Richard was running in this video, it was pretty calm.. Then I swapped to the TBSS intake, and 36 lb./hr. injectors along with the SS2, and a home ported set of 706's and it feels like it gained 100HP. It went from a truck that would barely spin the 315's from a dead stop, to a tire frying machine... Literally if I'm rolling along at 30 mph and stomp it, it will kick down to 1st (4L80E) and demolish the tires... pure smoke show... This combo that I have now is what I would call a starting point on all of my future builds. The 1.5 cam was very easy to tune, had just enough lope at idle that it was noticeable, and got decent gas mileage, but the combo in my opinion left a lot on the table. The new set up is night and day power production compared to the old. Oh, also forgot-Nick Williams 92MM throttle body with the new intake. LOTS of parts changed, but the reward was worth it. I got LEGIT Elgin cams-nothing from Sham-a-zon, or Fleece-Bay.. Those china knock off cams are GARBAGE.. several people have tested them and they rarely match the specs they are sold under, and one guy posted results showing the ground the lobes backwards.. STAY AWAY FROM CHINA CAMS and anything else that is internal engine. If you buy trash, it might destroy your engine... Not worth the risk.

  • @chipcurrey653

    @chipcurrey653

    Well the factory engines have a narrow band o2 sensor when defaulting over to speed density (full throttle) and a very small range of possible air fuel adjustment. From looking at my copy of hp tuners for those engines the max range of fuel adder based on O2 sensors is about half a point of air fuel ratio. So you can reverse engineer that if the other camshaft "needs no tuning" the power gains are very, very small or it would create a lean detonation condition.

    How are people’s experience with the Amazon sloppy stage 2 cam and lifter kits ? I hear so much about the experience about the cams but never the lifters that you can get with any of the many cam kits available or any other components that come with them . Would really love to know because I have a 5.3 that I’m trying to decide how I’ll build wether it’s all ls7 lifters and a btr or call it a day at a 500 dollar sloppy stage 2 kit with everything

The only way to get extractors on it was to weave them between the lower control arms. So they weren't ideal pipes. One of the pipes got a significant flat (maybe 50%) of the pipe diameter hitting the ground over bumps at speed, but it never seemed to make any difference to the power. Looking at it you would have thought otherwise.

    Texas speed repackages the SS3 as the ms3 cam. It’s good on a high compression 6.0. The 1 is a good all around cam, the 1.5 is good if your going to run a converter. Imo.
