I’d love for you to talk about the lifter failures and possibly an upgraded lifter for superduty applications. Mine just got all new lifters and a cam because of this issue.

With the ball hone, you don't have to wait two years for the machine shop....

Brush Research has alternative materials and grits to get to your target finishes. I won't use anything else. You get what you pay for. When I started with these pre-social media, BRM was always super responsive with technical support. You need the correct combination of abrasive and speed/stroke for the material. You struggled getting enough oil retention depth due to the hardness of the iron in the block. I would also try an oversized hone to put more load on the cordless drill to get a better speed/stroke ratio. Also make sure the stroke is fully to the bottom, the second ring needs to be able to evacuate the oil through the bottom ring reliefs. If that oil doesn't have enough valleys to absorb in the skirt will continue to pull it back up.

You would likely see better target numbers on an old school block (Windsor) that had "softer" metallurgy. I always just used WD-40 but we didn't have a method to check it outside of a blow-by meter after the fact.

Great Job Guys! Not everyone knows the importance of the RA finish measured with a profilometer and giving some kind of guidance is awesome. I'm not sure it has ever been referenced before ?

I like the budget side of it , as the only way I could get one of those motors would be do it this way

Would a 3 stone hone that you can adjust the tension be any better? Those can be bought pretty cheaply also.

Was cylinder taper checked? If the taper is off a 3 stone will show it and you can accomplish some correction.
