Dirt Bike Case Repair

Here is bottom case half from a two stroke dirt bike. It is damaged and needs repair. As you can see in the video it has a crack that needs to be welded and then dressed smooth. I used my TIG welder, die grinder, and Dremel for the job. Enjoy!

Well i had someone weld my case, but there are still cracks on the gasket surface. I bought a dremmel kit, so I'm going to do exactly what you did to mine, get it notched out and pay someone to weld it

On case repairs, used mixed wave form at relatively low frequency.

surprised you didn't finish off with a sheet of wet-n-dry on a plate of glass for a perfectly flat mating surface. . . kitchen Formica benches suffice. . .and yes, it has a thick paper gasket,

I tried aluminum wire and argon in my mig and didn't have much luck. Are tumgsten sticks better? I have a stick welder as well. Thank you.

I was told by a neighbor to heat it up a bunch of times (not too much or anything) because he says it will help get oil out of the metal. Is there any truth to this or should I just rely on brake cleaner? Thanks for the video, I'm excited to tackle a very similar project!

I haven’t heard that one. Cleaning it well and removing the surface oxides and contaminants with a file has always worked for me.

If that wire wheel was used on steel, you made this job a lot more difficult.
