I love the Heatles but Dirk was special in 2011. He was a man who would not be denied.
That's gotta be one of the toughest road to the title: Blazers, then defending champs Lakers, OKC with the Big 3, and Lebron's superteam. How can Dirk not be in the GOAT conversation when he was the last man standing in a playoff run that had a couple of GOAT-contenders standing in his way?

dirk was literal basketball god that season... just impossible to comprehend his skills, unguardable....
Greatest playoff run of all time. Glad he got his ring.
this was really the most legendary run ever in playoffs
Dirk was so good. He deserved that ring, and got it rightfully
this was obviously the pinnacle of the dirk mavs, they finally got the right pieces around him and Dirk caught fire at the right time. truly magical run
You can’t convince me this wasn’t better to watch than the 3 point contests in todays nba
The best call of is SVG telling Ibaka to name his firstborn son Dirk
As a Mavericks fan during this playoff run I honestly didn't expect them to sweep the Lakers. That sweep was OUTRAGEOUS! Dirk was determined to make a statement. He earned all respect across the league because he was well OVERDUE for a championship and being MVP. He never quit and he never gave up. Even while battling being sick during the game vs Miami showed he was not giving up. We knew Dirk would step up, but everyone else that had a part in this stepped up BIG TIME! Here in Dallas we was so LIT! The parade was exciting. Everything about this was legendary. There will never be another Dirk.
growing up, i was always a bit taller than everyone else, so they always stuck me at the 4 or 5 and dirk was my favorite man. i modeled my whole game after him. the one legged post fadeaway, the pick and pop, the face up pull up jumper, everything man. i miss watching him play

This is my favorite playoff run of all time bro.
As a Laker fan, 2011 was a particular year, where the favorites (Bulls, Spurs, Heat, Celtics and Lakers) did not prevail. It is similar as the 1988-89 NBA season as the Lakers were seeking for a Three-Peat but got swept by the Pistons. "Three-Peat" was used by Pat Riley during Kareem Abdul Jabbar's final season. 2010-11 was Phil Jackson's last season, he sought a fourth Three-Peat to end the way he did in 1998. So, fans expected a matchup between Kobe and LBJ. Believe me if this happened, I might believe the LAL would have been crushed by Miami, the same situation in 2008 against the Celtics (131-92). I would say respect for Dirk and the Mavs. This loss for the Heatles was similar when The Bad Boys lost to the Showtime Lakers then came back to win the year after. The Heat used it to complete a back-to-back.

I have a theory. This was right after the Donohue issue. He was claiming that he wasn't the only ref manipulating games because the commisioner would tell them to. Because of the embarrassment of that coming put, the NBA decided to let things play out naturally and not interfere. I recall fairly clean games from the refs during this run. They weren't giving Kobe and LeBron every call like they normally would.
What a man 90% fade away jumper 99% in freethrow line 3pt shooter Scoring machine the legendary
Don't forget they got screwed in 2006 but this run was the best ever. Dirk was must watch basketball and I rarely missed a game
Legendary run. Dirk waited his whole life for thia moment in time. Wish he would of had more help earlier on no telling how many Championships he could of won. But i enjoyed every moment of this run. Dirkkkkkkkk!!!¡!!
WCF game 1 performance by Dirk is the most PERFECT game anyone has ever played on offense. Guy scored 48 points without even attempting a 3. BONKERS

Dirk: definition of being locked in
I loved watching Dirk in finals series. Dirk getting a ring and Lebron and the Heat losing in the year of the overhyped "The Decision" was truly one the most satisfying things I've ever experienced sports wise.
@selassieaspen9940
3 ай бұрын
Definitely wasn't overhyped. It was hated actually. Miami was a target every night since then. They still had a chance to 4 peat. One of the only 3 teams that could of surpassed Jordan team. Warriors, Lakers etc. Dirk himself and his team were just better than everyone. You really don't understand how good they are when they beaten Lakers and OKC. To the point Miami should of took it seriously instead of showing off at the mic.
Game 4 vs OKC probably a top 5 individual playoff performance when you factor in the comeback, difficulty of shots, clutchness, etc.

To be honest, I don't think this year's Dirk in the playoffs is better than 2008-2010. He is still that good, but more importantly he got a better team, especially with adding Chandler.

Legendary performance by Dirk! This man deserved more than 1 chip to be honest. Was a big fan of him when he was still playing with the Mavs.
Yall this was one of the greatest runs I've ever witnessed dont @ me lol but seriously only Mavs fans know the knife to the heart we felt when Miami took it from us back in 06. This was more than just a ring for the city, it was for one of the greatest players to ever touch the ball. Watching 41 put the team and nation on his back and rode through that final buzzer only to have his core team ripped from him that following summer. This man deserved at least one more but what he did for this run was truly special, seriously who is cutting the onions around here 😭

Great run by Mavs and Dirk Diggler
It was amazing at the AAC for the watching party for the final game. So much fun.
If Hakeem had beaten Jordan in 95, that would be the toughest championship run of all time, but I give the edge to Dirk, Jet, & the Mavs. Prime Brandon Roy/LaMarcus Aldridge first round, SWEEP the defending champion Kobe/Pau/Phil Jackson, drop the Russ/KD/Harden Thunder in 5, beat the Heatles in 6 and closeout on the road. 1st championship in team history & got revenge for 2006. Definitely the most meaningful ring of all time.
Most authentic playoff run ever
Dirk was a god. Im sad the younger generation will never really see Dirk when he was really athletic. Dirks athleticism is often forgotten.
Greatness is about how many of your fellow greats you can beat. Giannis hasn’t beat one, while Dirk beat like 5 in one year.
He is such a great player
i completly forgot how clutch dirk was that playoffs. Just from the stats alone it wasnt that impressive . But he carried the team when they needed him in an unquestionable manner. + a great supporting cast that cannot be credited enough, still he was the Big star on the team and he delivered.
Well as a huge Dirk and Mavs fan, this will be going in my saved video list

just re watched this again today, mannn the story line couldn't be better, Dirk was UNSTOPPABLE until the last game in Miami, exhausted af in the first half couldn't hit a shot but that's when the team carried him to the final second when he needed the most.... THE GREATEST CHAMPIONSHIP RUN EVER

The REAL HARDEST RING IMO not 2020, not 2016 ... 2011 is the real one
That fade away, really was unstoppable. I mean, other than a flagrant, you not stopping it.
UNGUARDABLE
I became a Mavs fan during the 2006 playoff run, when I was 10, so my first 5 years of Mavs fandom I knew nothing but misery and heartbreak lol. Not sure anything sports related will ever top this run for me. I think Dirk in the WCF vs OKC that year was the best he ever played in his entire career. The 48 in game 1 always gets the attention (rightfully so) but to me, game 4 of that series is his greatest game ever, and perfectly encapsulates his greatness. Singlehandedly willed a comeback from down 15 with under 5 minutes to play with impossible shot after impossible shot. The Splash God
