2:10 Jimmy to get cleaner cuts with your plasma cutter, you should always initiate your cuts on an edge so the molten metal can be blown downwards. If you start your cuts on a flat part, the metal has nowhere to go and splashes around until the plasma makes it through. You could drill 1/4 holes and start from the edges of these holes. I already heard you complain about this on the podcast so I hope this helps. Take care !

That's the usual method with a cutting torch (old school) and CNC (new school). Pierce your scrap, not your workpiece. I collect rings (bearing races, hunks of pipe) to use as torch guides for small circle cutting. You can tack a piece of flat bar to the ring so you have a way to clamp it to your work.

When I plasma cut small holes I tack washers where I want the hole. Then just run the plasma cutter head around the outside or inside depending on hole size. It is a great vise stand Jimmy

As usual I enjoy watching your builds. I made a similar style stand for my first anvil but eventually went to a built-up solid block of wood, the long legs will flex with every hammer blow and each time you bend or twist something in the vise, eventually cracking the welds. I got tired of stepping around the legs and rewelding them. I'm much happier and have less chance of tripping, although it's a great portable design. Also clean and de-burr the holes for the hammers very well or you'll find the handles get chewed up fast.

I have a computer and a phone but I still write things down with a pen.... It works. It's crude. I've made things equally as crude. This video just left something to be desired. Yet I couldn't stop watching. This one had more drama because of the "controversy" of techniques used. Cannot wait for the canoe build. Maybe an Offerman cameo. Nice work Jimmy.

OK peeps all those people wondering about the MDF template, plasma cutting and all the other things wrong in this video, this is not meant to be educational it's meant to be entertainment so Jimmy does things not quite the right way just because he can and wants to. He could have made the metal plate on the CNC plasma cutter and it would have been precise but then people would have complained that he was using machinery that they don't have. So just take a deep breath and enjoy it for what it is.

That's what I was expecting! You can even get away with heavy cardboard for a one-off plasma template. If it was done this way, what was the point of using the wood template at all when all the marking out would work as well strait onto the steel.

For whatever reason if I need to hammer something in a vise I generally use my bench vise for that. I built my tripod vise specifically to grind work being held in it. So that's what I mainly use it for. It holds stuff good for hand drilling too. But that vise is not too far from my mill so that sees more drilling action. Just how things work out.

Hey Jimmy. After listening to the latest podcast of Making It, I believe the best troll bait would be a CNC plasma cut 3/8" thick dovetailed steel tea box. 😊For extra troll baiting points you could hand plasma cut those dovetails. Then weld the sides together. And paint it white. Then stencil your name on every side. ☺️
