That instrumental voice is Onew's, the leader. He has one of the most unique voices. SHINee overall is very very unique. They stand out with their music, voices, their ideas, choreography, fashion, everything.

SHINee is not only the most interesting group musically, but also the concepts are always unique

With "Don't Call Me," SHINee are just doing what we longtime fans have all come to expect from them -- showing us something that has never been seen or heard before and starting a new trend. Every song you hear and every choreography you see from them should be like nothing they have ever done. They are supposed to reinvent the industry with every comeback. When it comes to SHINee, it should always feel "very different." With every new song release, SHINee are expected to come out with a style and sound that is brand new, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. And "Don't Call Me" is a perfect example of that. "Don't Call Me" was released in 2021 and it was SHINee's first comeback in almost 3 years because Onew, Key and Minho had all just recently been discharged from the military. This comeback was a really big deal because it was the first time we had seen SHINee back together in a really long time. With this comeback, they set out to outdo themselves within only a few months of their return from the military, and they had to do it all within a couple of months because Taemin was about to enlist. Not only did they have this comeback, but they also had a repackage album comeback with their song "Atlantis", a Japanese album comeback with their song "Superstar," a virtual beyond Live concert and a Japanese fan meeting. And what was even crazier, was that it was all while Taemin was still promoting his solo comeback with his song "Idea", he had a comeback with SuperM's song "We Do" and a follow up solo comeback with his song "Advice," as well as Taemin's solo Beyond Live concert, etc. I mean they were working nonstop. Plus, Minho was filming a drama, Key was back as a cast member on the variety show Amazing Saturday and Onew was involved in other activities. SHINee are known as one of the few groups that rarely take a break, they are usually busy with one project after another. Therefore, now that Taemin is done with his military service, and they are all officially free to get back to promoting as a group, be prepared to see the SHINee members everywhere, and for multiple projects and activities from them. I predict they will be nonstop busy for the rest of the year. Onew (Pronounced Oh-New in English or On-New with a Korean accent, real name Lee JinKi) -- the one with the hoodie -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique voices in the industry. He is the one with the voice that impressed you. He is considered the male vocalist with the most consistent voice. He was one of only two people ever chosen to become a trainee by the founder of SM, Lee SooMan, himself, impressing him with his talent when he was only about 17. He is now considered one of the most coveted voices in the industry that can pretty much be paired with anyone regardless of their vocal style or music genre. Key (The "Master Key", who can unlock all the doors in the entertainment industry with his talent. His real name is Kim Kibum, hence why his stage name is Key.) -- the one with the feather headpiece -- is our fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits*. He has even been given the official title of SM's Director of Fashion. He is also SHINee's dance copy machine who is the fastest to memorize choreography. He literally can see a dance for the first time and reproduce it on the spot almost better than the original. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. *Pearl Aqua is SHINee's fan color, so all the blue/green aqua colors you see in this MV are meant to represent SHINee. That is why in the scene where they are wearing the brown outfits, Key has the aqua yarn woven into his sweater and why the collar of Onew's jacket was dyed aqua, etc. Minho -- the one with the red hair** -- is the main rapper and visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. He is considered the president of SHINee's fan club, because he is all the members biggest fans. He literally attends all the members solo events and promotes SHINee like Shawol. He is also known as a star athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out, just because he likes to work out, but he also is crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc., as well. And, not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field, and he wins pretty much every time. Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and games and his need to always win. ** There has only been a handful of times in the past 15 years that Minho has ever dyed his hair any other color besides brown or auburn, and when he does, he only keeps it that way for a few weeks. :D As you may know, Minho is a lead actor in a lot of K-dramas and movies, and, when not promoting with SHINee, he is almost always working on his next TV or movie project. So, one of the reasons why I think he doesn't dye his hair as often as other idols, is because of his acting roles. The majority of the roles that he plays are boy next door-type characters or historical dramas, etc. so, he needs to look as average as he can. (Or, at least as average as a guy who was born with model good look anyway ;D) Case in point, he literally dyed his hair for this MV and then dyed it back brown because he was filming a drama, and then he dyed it red again when they started their comeback activities, all within the span of a couple of weeks. And, Taemin -- the one with the blond highlights and the white bandana -- is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry (Kai from EXO, who happens to be Taemin's best friend, and a fellow member of SuperM, is the other top dancer.) The title of best dancer was bestowed on Taemin by his peers and industry experts, so that just goes to show you how good of dancers all the members of SHINee must be. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson for a reason. He is an idol of most other idols and a legend among legends. SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. I'm a fan of theirs and I'm especially in love with TAEMIN because of how he sings and of course how he dances, he's so expressive, so sweet, so everything. (What do you think they say that Jimin is better than him??? I think one other reason besides dramas and movies that minho rarely coloured his hair is because he also models a lot.. and because his already perfect self, most of the time the job just need him to appear with more natural hair colour..

@@juanwalter Because Taemin is also a member of SuperM, I think SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV and Fake Reality teaser is SM's way of drawing SHINee into the SM Universe and fully connecting SHINee to SuperM's/EXO's storyline. Hence, Minho's red hair and the red room with the chairs hanging from the ceiling. I think this might be connected in some way to the Red Force -- which is the evil group or being in EXO's storyline -- and EXO's/SuperM's storyline. Although I have not worked out what it all means yet. (In EXO's storyline when we see red objects or red light this usually means this is something being controlled by the Red Force.) Therefore, most of SM's groups have storylines that connect. For example, I see connections between EXO, SuperM, aespa and SHINee with the fact that we see SuperM riding on a subway train in their "100" MV and we see aespa in the subway in their debut "Black Mamba" MV, and now we see SHINee also in a train station in "Don't Call Me." And most recently, we saw Baekhyun from EXO/SuperM on an old train in his solo "Bambi" MV. We even see Kai from EXO/SuperM on train tracks and people on a subway train platform in his "Film: Kai" solo debut teaser video during his "Amnesia" section of the video and as it transitions to "Mmmh." We also see Key from SHINee in a subway train in his solo debut "One of Those Nights" MV. And if we go back even further, you see EXO on train tracks in their "Love Me Right" MV and EXO-CBX (which Baekhyun is also a member of) on train tracks in their "Horololo" MV, etc. The train station/subway platform in "Don't Call Me" also is given a very futuristic EXO-like feel with the view of space and the planets in the sky when you see SHINee dancing on the train platform. The scene with Key in the red outfit standing on the phone booth submerged in water, looks like it could have something to do with the Red Force as well. And it also looks very similar to the scene with Taeyeon, from Girls' Generation, standing on the rock in the middle of the Ocean in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV. Taeyeon is even wearing the same color red dress, in "Hate That ...," and both Key and her have very similar styles and poses. And now, it also looks like this could be connected to SHINee's new "Hard" MV storyline, with Minho standing on the rock wearing a red jacket, with a vibe very similar to this as well. We also see in "Don't Call Me," Key dressed in his black outfit with the feather headpiece standing in front of the image of himself on the phone booth, which looks as though this could be showing him in an alternate reality -- or a "fake reality." Then in the next scene, it looks as though the SHINee members go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in their black outfits. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV. When the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping," they are each teleported through space, which looks very similar to that scene with the black wall with stars in "Don't Call Me." Therefore, because the members of SuperM are supposed to be coming together to help EXO fight the Red Force and to prevent or stop them from taking over the world, etc., I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight. If you follow EXO's storyline, in EXO's "Obsession" MV we learn that the good guys are the members in the all-black outfits, and in "Jopping" we see SuperM's "Avengers uniform" is similar all black outfits. So, in the scene in "Don't Call Me," when we see SHINee all together in those black outfits, it looks as though they might be preparing to join in the fight. That is why I think that even though SHINee are part of the second generation, that SM is now working on bringing them into the storyline. And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything to do with anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. I mean we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's "House Party" MV and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV from 2020 in "aespa's ep.1 - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., which debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his solo MV remake of H.O.T.'s song "Free to Fly," which looks like they are on another planet in the MV and it featured Winter from aespa and Sungchan who is a former member of NCT, now SM's new boy group RIIZE, in the story. Changmin from TVXQ was also brought into the story in 2022 with his song "Devil," as the MV shows him on a pink planet and he talks about Kwangya in the song lyrics. And even more recently, BoA, who is a solo artist, became a villain within aespa's storyline. And U-Know from TVXQ's new "Nexus, Reality Show" MV is centered around a futuristic world where he spends a lot of time within the virtual realm with Karina from aespa playing an AI character that helps U-Know.

"How did they do that?" Simple: Because they are SHINEE!!!

SHINee is for kpop what the group QUEEN was/is for western music: innovativ, progressive, creative, courageous, sustainable, quality and unique.. definitely not mainstream, standing out from this mostly repetitive and same concepts in kpop. They really are rare gems or to say it in Shawols words: diamonds 💎💎💎💎💎

Stand out.. yup.. SHINee still doing it and slaying the game, 15 years in..

Every SHINee title track takes a different tone and genre of music. They have experimented a lot over 15 years.

Speaking of the piano, they had a huge piano solo cadenza added to their music shows performances played by Taemin :) You should check this out! You should also react to Good Evening, it’s such a great track - totally different style than Hard and Don’t Call me. SHINee is very creative as a group and individually. They always bring something new to the table to keep their audience entertained and the rest of the industry on the edge :) I guess their creativity and quality are the main factors of their longevity and continuing success.

The smooth, velvety voice is Onew! His voice is like a warm hug. I love his voice so, so much. The funny thing about this song is it wasn’t originally written for Shinee. It was for another group in the same company but that group rejected it. Shinee was like “give it here” and this is what we got. There’s a reason we say “Shinee is your ultimates’ ultimate”. ‘Ultimate’ (or ‘ult’) in kpop means your number 1 favorite group or idol. So saying “ultimates’ ultimate” means Shinee is the group that your favorite group loves. Shinee set the standard (lovingly called ‘the Shinee standard’) in terms of performance and musicality. They practically reinvent themselves with every album and they kill it every dang time.

I don't even want to imagine you going like that 600 more times coz shinee has that many songs 😄

2:40, it is Onew, the leader and main vocalist ~ SHINee often goes out of trends. They have been called “trendsetters” for a long time, and it has always worked. Whether in the dance, the instrumental, the mixing, the concept, the outfits and even the makeup. (Is my English understandable ?)

❤you are so much fun to watch😁. Aren’t they just mind blowing!? I didn’t know much about SHINee, except their name, until I discovered Taemin on KZread by chance. Creating and performing for the music show The Call (You Are My Standard [Choice] & Pinocchio) The videos are 5 years old so not reaction worthy but very much worth enjoying. They still stand out as amazingly unique. Musicality with an important social message to boot. Then Key’s “Gasoline” started popping up on my Recommended”. At first I thought you were doing it on purpose, freezing the vid every time he lifted his shirt but no, you were totally oblivious. Bet you thought we were so rapt with the note progressions. Shinee has always had that edgy feel to their music and you expect their choreo to be top tier, after all they have Taemin, who is the best dancer in K-pop. Perhaps the added zing comes from three of them just coming back from military service and raring to get back into things (I believe this was before Taemin entered the military). Love their harmonies and their individual vocals are very good. We have seen Taemin excel in his solo performances. I hope you'll react to Choi Minho's "Heartbreak" - an emotive change of pace for Shinee's Manly Man.

P.S. Oh! You ever watch the KZread channel ‘React to the K?’ A K-pop fan started sitting down her classical music classmates to have them react to K-pop. Been going for several years now, and they point out ALL kinds of technical aspects. I thoroughly enjoy it even though I understand nothing beyond the absolute basics of music composition. Any time I want to know about a specific moment or two from a particular song, it is far more likely than not to be featured on that channel.

"Whose voice is this" - that's Onew, who's currently on hiatus for health reasons. DCM's success paved the way for many 2nd gen groups to start making music again, or to at least make bigger efforts, and they've done very well for it, too! Onew, Key, and Minho were very worried they wouldn't have a career upon returning from the military, and DCM showed them just how wrong they were. I really hope you continue your SHINee journey, because you haven't heard Jonghyun yet, and he's going ro blow your mind. SHINee is a contemporary experimental group; don't ever expect to hear the same thing from them. I listened to this song around a thousand times. You pointed out a couple things that hadn’t occurred to me. I’ve seen Taemin play the piano part, but I didn’t see the emotion in it. Also, I have laughed at hearing Pokémon, but finally realized that Pokémon probably means a real, everyday word and that’s why we keep hearing it in speech and songs. I was never this slow. The translation has “dream” and “foolish” so I’m going with one of those.

I loved your verbal and physical reactions to this. When you point out the uniqueness or difficulties of the song structure you are educating me and others about music’s technicalities. I still might not understand fully but I understand that it’s special. Your not pretentious but educating and sharing your knowledge. I just know I love this song, the beats, vibe and vocals.
