This song is a message for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake, which occurred at 14:46:18.1 on March 11, 2011. The number of dead and missing people due to the Great East Japan Earthquake is 22,215. If the beautiful light at this live venue is life, then roughly half of the lights have gone out.😢 Thanks to Roscoe for his post that paid homage to this song.💐

Be The Light is one of the songs which has truly deep messages. You have to watch the official MV, it has english subtitle in it. You'll see that OOR made this song with intention not only for remembering the great Japan earthquake 2011, but also for all that's happened and still happening in the world🤍

As others have already said, this song was written for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011 I was living in Tokyo at the time and this song makes me cry every time. I can't help but remember the fear, the uncertainty. The never-ending shaking, the evacuation, the hours spent in a cold gym, not knowing what had happened and where exactly. And then going home and seeing the devastation on tv. The following days where the earth kept shaking, the nuclear plants failing, the fear, the uncertainty. My family back home asking me to go back. Actually going back for a few weeks feeling like s**t because I, as a foreigner, had a place to escape to, but all my Japanese friends didn't. I think of all the people who lost their lives, the thousands who were never found... I love this song, and still, every time it's so hard to listen to it. If there is one thing I love about OOR is that they always have a messagge, and they sing it with all their hearts.

The 2011 disaster devastated a quarter of Japan's prefectures, destroying more than 300 ports and wiping out more than 50 towns. Commercials went off the air on television and news of the disaster continued to be broadcast for more than six months. The entire country was compensating for the shortage of electricity, and planned power outages were implemented, and Japan truly pulled together to help each other through this hardship. This song was released in 2014, or three years later. I will never forget the emotion I felt when I first heard it. I realized that I had been struggling to endure the pain and suffering. This song healed me. I still cry every time I listen to it. It is a very, very important song.

I feel the same. I love this song, but it also reminds me of the fear and uncertainty of those days. The tragedy that we were seeing on TV all day for weeks and the feeling of helplessness, not being able to do anything more than just use as little electricity as I could to help. I never realize how hard that experience was, until I hear this song and still feel so strongly about it even now almost 13 years later

One Ok Rock in concert is...overwhelming. I've seen them twice and met them. I cried my eyes out both concerts because it's truly mind blowing to be in a venue with Taka singing live. All of these guys are so talented. My ultimate favorite group!

They do not miss. Their whole catalogue is extraordinary. Concerts at the Yokohama must be amazing. More than 70,000 people can fit in there.

This song is very meaningful. As many stated, this song is dedicated to the March 2001 victims and survivors of one of the largest and most devastating earthquakes to hit Japan. The lyrics: Just the thought of another day How did we end up this way? What did we do wrong? God Even though the days go on So far so far away from It seems so close Always weighing on my shoulder A time like no other It all changed on that day Sadness and so much pain You can touch the sorrow here I don’t know what to blame I just watch and watch again Even though the days go on So far so far away from It seems so close Even though the days go on So far so far away from It seems so close What did it leave behind? What did it take from us and wash away? It may be long But with our hearts start anew And keep it up and not give up With our heads held high You have seen hell and made it back again How to forget? We can’t forget The lives that were lost along the way And then you realize that wherever you go There you are Time won’t stop So we keep moving on Yesterday’s night turns to light Tomorrow’s night returns to light Be the light Always weighing on my shoulder A time like no other It all changed on that day Sadness and so much pain Anyone can close their eyes Pretend that nothing is wrong Open your eyes And look for light What did it leave behind? What did it take from us and wash away? It may be long But with our hearts start anew And keep it up and not give up With our heads held high You have seen hell and made it back again How to forget? We can’t forget The lives that were lost along the way And then you realize that wherever you go There you are Time won’t stop So we keep moving on Yesterday’s night turns to light Tomorrow’s night returns to light Be the light Some days just pass by and Some days are unforgettable We can’t choose the reason why But we can choose what to do from the day after So with that hope, with that determination Let’s make tomorrow a brighter and better day

I've seen them live in Orlando FL twice. They are superb performers. One of the BEST EVER live acts I've seen in 5 decades worth of concerts I've been to. While the vids of their stadium performances are impressive. They are STELLER at the smaller venues but they so deserve a larger platform. They are also some of the sweetest peeps ever during meet n greets. I will always hit a performance of theirs if they run through my area.

Wow very heavy meaning behind this one. But yes, you have to be the light. It still amazes me the number of people who say that I have touched them without me even knowing. We all need to be each other's light.

I really hope that you react to more of their older stuff, especially from this album. You'll really love "Decision" live at Saitama super arena 35xxxv tour. It's just as emotional as We Are. The beginning is truly special and for me one of the most memorable. The difference between the two is that We Are is emotional for the crowd, but Decision is emotional for the band. You can see it hit Ryota hard while singing it and Taka's expression at the end. I've lost track of how many times I've recommended it.

God bless the people of Japan who behaved in a way that the world should learn to live during this catastrophic event. Incredible people, horrific time...3/11/11. This song WRECKS me every time...I can say no more.

I wouldn't count on the English subs that were written below your comments because they were really off in some parts. You need to see the real English lyrics to realize what a powerful song this is. It is very inspirational and brings tears to my eyes when I listen to it. When you read the lyrics, the song became even more powerful.

The version that you're thinking of is live at Yokohama arena 2012. The song is an apology to his parents. He had a huge argument with his parents back in high school which resulted in him running away from home and his mom disowning him. Taka always gets so emotional because his parents were actually at that concert.
