Paint me was the pre-release for their 4 seasons 4 colour project. Within the span of one year they released 4 albums with these respective title tracks: - Starry night [album: yellow flower. Hwasa as spring] - Egotistic [album: red moon, moonbyul as summer] - Windflower [album: blue;s, solar as autumn] - Gogobebe [album: white wind, wheein as winter] All 4 albums joined together to also tell a story of a relationship & they also had each member have a solo in the album. You might be most interested in Hwasa’s be calm, she wrote that song after her uncle passed away for context.

If you like vocalist moonbyul, you should watch some of her performances on The Secret World. It was a show in which rappers competed in singing, rather than rapping. Moonbyul totally slayed every single performance. Also there's that one video from some online show they did once where they sang a kids song in the most mamamoo way possible and moonbyul had to belt her lungs out lmao it's so silly and so impressive at the same time

They have a lot of songs with jazzy vibes like Piano Man, Mr. Ambiguous, Cat Fight. Their music is very different from other girl groups. I recommend some of their chill songs like Words Don’t Come Easy and Rainy Season.

Paint Me is the theme song for Mamamoo's four album series 4 Season 4 Color and it introduces the main themes, concepts and cyclical symbolism used throughout the project. It was a pre-release single from the first album, Yellow Flower. One of the few things you said during your first view was "Wow! ... You don't think this shot is a big deal? This shot is a big deal." Pretty good Tom Hanks impression btw, tho I know you weren't trying to imitate him. lol Yes, that shot is a big deal - they've just been transported from the empty white space with the black & white pianos to a full color world in the clouds via the lid of the piano Solar was sitting on and in the new world the pianos are fitted together like a yin-yang symbol. That shot is a big deal because it's one of the clues about the hidden subject of what appears to be a simple love song at first. It is a love song but I agree with the theory that it's about their love affair with music, which is why the piano lid becomes a portal taking them from B&W to Technicolor. Note that the pianos are the only recognizable solid objects in the whole video. Every other image is colors, primal forces and natural elements in motion like the clouds, fire, water, the star wheel and the lightning at the end. They also project images representing the 4 seasons onto the members - butterflies/spring, desert sun/summer, empty branches/fall, and snowflakes/winter. I could go on blabbing about the complexity of this deceptively simple MV and how it enhances the multiple layers of meaning in the lyrics but I'll stop with another clue about music in the lyrics. Espresso is kind of an odd metaphor in a love song, eh? What's special about espresso? The rich taste. Taste is the clue. Four of the five senses are referred to in the lyrics - sight, smell, touch and taste - but not hearing. Why? Because it's poetry and the four senses are metaphors for the sense not mentioned, the sense by which we perceive music. They want a life filled with all the colors of the musical palette because music is their means of self-expression and it's what brings meaning to their lives. Paint Me is my favorite MMM song. Yes, Mamamoo does jazz. Their early albums are referred to as their Retro Era and most of the songs toss jazz, swing and 60's soul into the kpop genre blender. They've also done a number of bossa nova-based songs such as Words Don't Come Easy and Waggy. There are many examples of MMM jazz tunes but to name a couple, one of their Only Mamamoo songs is a ditty called Recipe where they cook a couple of recipes over a jazz instrumental track that sounds like it belongs in a 30's era cartoon and they once did a short dixieland jazz version of their hit You're the Best for a year end award show. The members have covered songs by singers like Natalie Cole, Peggy Lee and Eartha Kitt and Solar said jazz singer Nancy Wilson was one of her influences. Mamamoo has an extremely diverse discography and there aren't many pop genres they haven't done or incorporated elements of in their music at one time or another. Solar even did a country OST song that would have made Patsy Cline smile. 😂

The vocals in this song are amazing. Other songs of their get much more recognition for being top tier, but every little thing in this performance is beautiful. Hwasa's tone and phrasing and her ability to make you say "wow" with just the accents of a single word, Wheein's silky smooth yet emotionallu charged, Solar's ability to somehow belt out power notes SOFTLY (even though that doesn't even make sense) and Moonbyul's vocals are less like I'm hearing them and more like they're going right through my soul. If i were a singing expert i would have the right words for it, but i know enough to know that the little details that i don't even know how to describe are above and beyond what most singers ever achieve.

I can't wait until you watch LMM by Hwasa. For me it's her most powerful song ever. I hear the first few notes and i have to sit down. 😂 The music video is a legitimate work of art that i think you would really appreciate as a director, and i already know you love Hwasa, so prepare yourself. It's one of those songs that even if you don't understand a single word you feel every emotion. ... and the visuals are absolutely stunning!

Yellow Flower, Red Moon, Blue;s and White Wind. If you want a live version of this song, Last year on the Hwasa TV Show episode 8 mamamoo did a live medley to a live band of many songs full version of 1llella but the last song was a full version of Paint Me, first time they have done the full song live in years. So you can hear them live now 6 years older and even better voices. Paint me is not just an incredible song, it is an experience. Jazz, big band, reggaeton pretty much every genre. Great reaction to one of the most beautiful songs ever made, slack jawed and stunned into silence.

I need to stop commenting before I’ve finished watching but yes!! Mamamoo started their career as a very JAZZ group, and they kept that sound for like their first 3? Album? Highly recommend checking out their debut Mr ambiguous (make sure u watch the one w eng subs on the mamamoo channel) as well as Mr Pianoman. Highly highly recommend Mr pianoman it’s such a great song! Special mentions also include: - aah oop (jazzy AND feminist) - Don’t be happy (predebut song. They remade it as a 2021 version if you’re interested in the song with only the girls & much better visuals) - Um oh ah yeah (Mamamoo’s first hit. Idk if it’s really jazzy but the storyline is probably one of the funniest and wackiest out there)
