    The studio would be foolish to not let this man have another Mad Max film to go out on, he's earned it no matter how Furiosa performs

    Unfortunately, Money talks! However, if there is a great will by director, actors, and maybe some independent financers, it could maybe happen. But a big studio might not back it, since Furiosa has not performed well (so far, anyway). I'll be seeing Furiosa for the second time in IMAX next week). I don't feel the movie deserves to flop.

    I just don’t understand why Furiosa? Miller has said before many times that each Mad Max movie stand on its own and doesn’t have continuity with the previous films. And NOW he decides to make an origin story prequel for Furiosa? It’s just a weird decision to me.

    Well, there it is. He already planned to revisit Max himself, just after the finish of the Furiosa story. This has me remembering that we already had 3 Mad Max movies in the past, so I'm not surprised that a new character was explored in Furiosa, and I had a feeling that Max would eventually return.

    @@scumton3060 More seriously, Tarantino would be a great director to turn the movies back into exploitation movies like the first one. But I don't think he can write the proper kind of dialog. All his movies depend on a lot of banter and Mad Max depends on the least amount of words needed, usually. Plus Miller comes up with these unusual words that could only come from Australian English. But Tarantino is an interesting idea for a Max project.

It's not his style whatsoever, and I think he'd miss the point of most if not all of the finer details. Also, at this point, the franchise doesn't need to to back to exploitation. Fury Road did just fine without it, and it's a fairly flawed and limiting genre

    @@khuhruzhsvethmeorv8318 I liked the sense of the first film being exploitation in that the characters genuinely felt in danger to the point Max couldn't save them. Bland Max. But Tom did a good job with what he was given. It would have been much better had we gotten the method acting Tom Hardy seen in "The Revenant." He couldn't even pull off a proper Australian accent in "Fury Road." I could have seen a lot of other actors as Max depending upon where in the timeline the film is. At prime age and height of their careers: Russell Crowe. Heath Ledger. Karl Urban. Ryan Gosling. Gerard Butler. Christian Bale. Colin Farrell. Even Mel Gibson's real life friend Robert Downey, Jr. A lot of those guys are too tall. Mel Gibson is 5'10". Tom Hardy is 5'9". Max is supposed to be around 5'8-5'10". Ledger was in contention in 2001 when "Fury Road" was originally pitched and Mel was doing "The Patriot" and unsure about coming back. Praetorian Jack + Fury Road Max were the original Max written for the 2001 version of Fury Road. They got rid of the romantic angle between Max and Furiosa because it didn't make sense (and no more Max movies if he finds happiness). They made Jack his own character.

    His movie "Blood Father" might be the closest we'll get. The exploitation film "Dragged Across Concrete" fits the exploitation genre of the first Max film, but is a rough watch. "Force of Nature" is also a gritty, little known 2020 film he did that I enjoyed.

    Mad Max: The Wasteland will probably be an adaptation of the 2015 Max comics. In terms of canon they are after Beyond Thunderdome but before Fury Road. In the event that Dr. Miller is not able to make the movie, I would love to see Mel Gibson direct and produce the film while working from Miller's notes. It would be a suitable way to return the franchise to its roots.

  • @VerdeMorte

    @VerdeMorte

    Beyond the Thunderdome is the last movie, long after already he'd lost the Interceptor, Fury Road comes after the Road Warrior However, Miller also made the past movies semi-canon, as the first movie still has grass, something he regretted, and Thunderdome is unclear how long after Road Warrior it originally took place. My best guess is he wants to do a TV series someday that reinvisions the first two movies with different cast in a truer setting. Might work honestly, considering how well Fallout did.

    @@VerdeMorte See the Mad Max comics which Miller wrote. Fury Road is after Thunderdome. Max was rebuilding the second Interceptor on the cart in Thunderdome. It's under the tarp. This is why he wanted the cart back so badly from Jedediah. Also see the Mad Max Bible's continuity documentaries, which they take from storyboards, scripts, and screenplays (directly from the typewritten documents, which they show). If anything, Furiosa takes place after Mad Max but before Fury Road while she is growing up. Most people don't know the comics exist. The reason why Sun City had grass is because Max had not yet gone into the forbidden area (Wasteland). People were still living on the Australian coast. Max's own house was by the sea. After the nuclear war the seas were turned to the salt flats (Plains of Silence in the video game and where Max was going at the beginning of Fury Road). I can't post links here because it thinks they are spam, but a KZread search will bring it all up.

    Max's universe is becoming closer to a comic book style where it is crazier and crazier with each movie. Eg the Doof Warrior sounds a lot like a Borderlands type character. (Borderlands is a popular post-apoc style game with crazy Mad Max style characters but in the space age) You would not see something like that from Mad Max 1 which looked like a regular movie with regular people in it on a low budget. But over time Geroge is placing more wacky stuff, (eg the gyrocopter guy from Mad Max 2 using a snake as a bomb to throw down on people like its a weapon). Max's movies slowly became funnier and with much more dark humor than previous ones. (much like later Lethal Weapons movies which became action comedies and are a stark contrast to the very first Lethal Weapon) This is because the movie it was inspired by (A Boy and His Dog) uses dark humor to make you laugh at it. If Max turns into a knight of justice it would be him completing his story arc full circle. The first movie showed max as a reluctant hero. ("people want to see heroes again Max" is the saying in the original movie and he wants to be it) Max tried to be one but falls down and becomes an antihero like The Punisher. Then by Mad Max 3 he is a "Jesus in leather pants" helping little kids. (lost his need to get revenge after the events of MM2) But the way to bring him back to the first movie again is to make him a Hero again that actually brings justice as a bounty hunter. And kills mutants which are much more a threat to wasteland than regular guys who are starving for food and wearing shitty clothing. (ending the life of people who are just stealing food and gas to feed their stomachs isn't really a noble goal)
