Although I was a huge Dire Straits fan, I am an even more enthusiastic fan of his solo work. I have all of his albums and play his music every day. I’ve been to several of his concerts. His guitar work is stunningly beautiful. No one does it like he does. Brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for the video.

My favorite guitarist is Mark Knopfler closely followed by Eric Clapton. Mark is the best music interpreter and Eric is the most skilled guitarist.

MARK spent yrs developing his own playing& sound. He has us some music that will never fadeaway and written by himself. Very few artists come close to his standards. He's also generous, dedicated and compassionate of others which includes his favorite charities, and truly devoted to his family.

Great work here !!! I'm a fan. In '76, i buy a year old Strat (SB, MN, HT) and loved it. I'd usually run this with my bedroom stereo (LS, TL, RT, UFO, etc) with a CryBaby, Big Muff (red script) and a nice little Magnatone amp. Sounded great. One afternoon, have the house to myself, turned up this tube amp up 'kleen' in the living room. Staggered ! About a year later, Sultans Of Swing drops. Clean Strat tones on a hit !!! Loved it. man, later he says "....can't get no crazy notes on my blue guitar...." I've steered clear. I grew up by the ocean so should dig this. nope ;)

Ah, but they left out the very best soundtrack album he did, which is "Local Hero" (a quirky, funny and tender film you should check out). I don't care much about his lifestyle. He's a humble, grounded, likable guy who seems to get along well with almost everyone he meets or plays with. He's a fine songwriter as well as an exceptional guitarist, but to be honest I think he lost his way a number of years ago with regard to the songwriting--not as inspired in melody or range of lyrics as in his earlier solo records.

Dire straits is fun and all but much of his best stuff was his solo studio albums. Kind of ridiculous to mention doing movie soundtracks and supporting gigs but not those masterpiece works. The Shangri La album is particularly incredible.

No, he is not Scottish. He was only born there. His father was Hungarian Jewish and his mother was English. When he was 7 years old, his family moved to her home town of Blyth, near Newcastle upon Tyne in North East England. The people there are called Geordies. They are English but have a distinct accent and culture. Mark proudly considers himself Geordie.

I was born in America, that means I'm American. If I was living in America but born in Africa, I would be African, raised in America. No matter what you say he was born in Scotland and he is Scottish. It doesn't matter where his parents were born.

He doesn't the he's Scottish, he's proud to be a Geordie, and Geordies are very proud English people. Their ancestors used to defend England from Scottish raiders. My own father is from North East England, although he can't call himself Geordie as he doesn't come from Tyneside, but Mark Knopfler does.

My father used to say if you don't have something nice to say. Don't say anything at all… but this is one of those times when I've got to speak out. First of all, the thumbnail picture that leads us into this video is completely deceiving. The content of this video is jarring and lacking any flow whatsoever. Some of the facts aren't facts at all just surmisings on the part of those who posted it. This is the kind of thing slapped together by an AI bot, but sadly I think a human cobbled this together. Sorry to be insulting, but I'd rather be honest.

It's okay that you have never heard of him!! He is an absolutely wonderful musician and songwriter....an absolute genius. You might want to give some of his music a listen. So many songs to listen to but for starters perhaps Romeo and Juliet. Take care.
