The Canadian government needs to take care of those two surviving poor ladies in their eighties! If they need assisted care, put them in the best home available. The Canadian government made millions off of them and stole their lives. Treat them like the queens.

They also were more comfortable speaking French because their father fired the nurses that spoke English and hired French speaking nurses because he despised Dr Dafoe, he only knew English, when the girls moved back home, they were made fun of by their family because they spoke English and the girls spoke French. But they were bilingual, that's more than some people can do.

This is just a heartbreaking story. Those little girls were treated horribly. I think Doctor Roy started out with good intentions. But when the money started rolling in he got greedy. And the Dad got greedy too after he saw the dollar amounts they could make. Those first 6 years of children’s lives are so vital. They learn how to be people and feel nurtured and safe. These children didn’t get the benefits that all children deserve. And it is sickening that those little girls built the “hospital” paid the labors, and Saleries of the staff and feed them and paid all the utilities. Off the sweat of their backs. You know they didn’t always want to be put on display. The Canadian government should be taking care of the surviving sisters.

These poor little girls were beautiful. They didn't know anything but the Dafoe Hospital And Nursery for nine years. According to their story, their brothers and sisters hated them, their father and oldest brother molested them. Their mother was cruel and slapped them, told Marie that she was cross eyed, told Emilie the devil made her left handed. The girls were treated like servants. They didn't even know how to be on their own after they grew up. The three that did marry divorced, It's a sad book.

This was so sad, and it made me angry too, the way they were exploited, especially the "shows" they had to give three or four times a day. And that song those poor girls had to sing. You can see in their faces they're angry and sad at the same time. BTW they had Shirley Temple dolls that Shirley herself gave them, when they moved in to "The big house" their mother took them away from them. When they asked what happened to their Shirley's she went on a rant about "When I was your age I was working in the fields doing the work of a man!" etc- They were only ten at the time. I played with dolls until I was a teenager, playing with my cousins Barbies. And playing dolls with my girl cousins and later on my niece.I'm sure their are lots of women out here that played with dolls with their children and relatives.

The Dionne’s story was told first (and best) by Pierre Berton in his book “The Dionne Years” and the accompanying CBC/National Film Board documentary. A crucial element to understanding the whole saga was that it took place during the depths of the Depression in the 1030s, and also the disparate cultural forces of rural, poor Catholic Quebec, and the more modern, “progressive” society of Ontario, the rest of Canada, and the entire world fascinated by this unique human interest story….

At least, Emile wasn't molested in the "Nursery". She was molested in their home. In later life the girls/women told about this. Father wanted to rent them out to a sideshow. Such love. "We Were Five" is a fascinating book about their life. The statement about Emile being molested came out later(much later, after her death). At the time the remaining Sister's took back the statement because it was hurtful to their family. Still victims of their Mother & Father.

In real life their older sister Thérèse Callahan né Dionne passed away earlier this year at the age of 91. Mrs. Callahan was known as the family spokesperson and often spoke out against her quintuplet sisters, they were estranged from her their entire adult lives. Sadly, only Annette Dionne (87) and Cécile Dionne (87) are living as of July 2021. And with the passing of Mrs. Callahan they have no other surviving siblings. The only non-quint sibling that they had any contact and relationship with into adulthood was Pauline Dionne. Pauline never married and passed away in 2018. Around the time that their second autobiography was published “Family Secrets” in 1995 Pauline broke off all contact with her surviving quint sisters.

Bernadete Rocha, oi.

Two shared a sack and were mirror twins, two shared a sack and were regular identical twins, Cecile had her own sack and it’s believed that she originally shared it with a sixth twin who was miscarried earlier in the mother’s pregnacy. I can’t quite wrap my head around sets of identical twins within a group of identical quintuplets (originally identical sextuplets), but that’s what’s been said.
