I visited the town of Montgomery, Wales, all because of this film. What can I say about the Welsh people? HOSPITABLE! There I was keeping an eye out for the only bus to Shrewbury, England, worrying I would end up stranded in Wales for the night, and I had an elderly Welsh couple offering me to stay in this house for the night. "Oh, don't worry Love! If you miss your bus you can stay in our extra room for the night!" WHAT? The Welsh people are the best!

There are people like that. I've met them. Fewer now than before, but you can change that. It's the way people are supposed to be, Jesus taught that. But hospitality is not limited to real Christians, not at all.

This movie is a guilty pleasure for me. I am aware of its faults but I love it anyway. Denholm Elliott does such a wonderful job reciting the poem, and such a lovely way to put it into visual storytelling. Dylan Thomas left us at such a young age but he left us a holiday gem with this poem.

About 25 years ago, my Ex and i discovered this wonderful movie. I cannot watch any of the silly new stuff anymore; this is Christmas. I still watch it every year, sometimes just alone. I cry every time "All Though the Night" is sung. It deeply touches my spirit with the beauty, love and closeness. Of course, the wording and lyrical quality of the powem is simply unsurpassed' brilliantly beautiful and magnificent.

Beautiful. Reminds me of the Christmases of my boyhood. Christmas Eve was, in the native tongue of my German mother, "Heiligabend," and it was a holy night, observed with happiness, yet, also, sacred solemnity. The candles were all burning, the lights were dim, the Christbaum (Christmas tree) shining, our Nativity scene was in a place of prominence, and Luke chapter 2 was read in English and German. I feel lucky to have had a family that observed and loved that holy night...as I still do to this day. :-)

Hello. As you know, Wales is in the United Kingdom. Our friends, from both England & Scotland, confirm that the traditions portrayed are celebrated in all of the nations in the UK. When we visited the there, however, we did discover 1 old custom which is unique to Wales alone - Welsh Love Spoons. Instead of engagement rings (which few could afford) Welsh males would carve elaborate decorative spoons. Now both rings & spoons (carved or bought) are given. You may have already known. Best Wishes.

EVERY child should see this uplifting portrait of Christmas in the United Kingdom. Even though it contains some mischief, the young man portrayed is, basically, a good kid who, clearly, has grown into a loving grandfather. The parents are, also, shown to be affectionate who respond to the dog-whistle antic without violence, only suggesting the boy take his energy outside. Anyway, posting is appreciated. Happy New Year to jonoldboy!

I watched it originally when my oldest was a new baby.. now he's old enough to 'get it' and he has a younger Brother and Sister, I'm sharing it with all of them. An innocent beauty, a peace that people today, I'm not sure they would understand.. I wanted to share with you, 9 years after your post, Mom's are still sharing this with their kiddos. Even I. America. Be blessed my friend.

I used to watch this with my family every Christmas Eve when I was a child. Originally from California, I'm here in Cardiff these days, without friends or family around to make it feel like the holidays. And yet, with this little show, it feels like Christmas. I may be miles and miles away, but this video always makes me feel like I'm right at home. Denholm Ellliot will always be an honorary uncle, and the voice and lyricism of Dylan Thomas will always sound like childhood for me.

i'm amazed that this Christmas in Wales is much closer to mine in Pennsylvania than my children's Christmases in California ever were. Theirs, despite my best efforts, seem to have been bereft of all tradition or continuity to Christmases past. The one exception to that in their Christmases may have been viewings of Dickens and It's A Wonderful Life.

Has it been nearly a year? And,,here am I, teary eyed again, viewing,, with gratitude, this marvelous seasonal classic. Wish I could have lifted a glass with you back in NYC Dylan. But you were too old and I, alas, too young. The City is long ago and far away from the French country-side. Still, at this time of year, a good brew together in an accomidating saloon in New York City, or Brittany, or some jolly town in Wales would be most welcome. Happy Holliday to Dylan, Denholm, and all who are enchanted with December 25.

I feel fortunate to have this film, both on VHS and DVD. Why this film is not readily available? I don't know. Denholm Elliot is "A Child's Christmas in Wales."

Interesting to see the Welsh-Canadian cooperative in this film's production. The Global Television Network, Atlantis Films, Mark Irwin as director of Canadian photography, Toronto Boys Choir sung the Christmas carols, there was an entire Canadian Crew. Even the Association of Canadian Film Craftspeople was involved. The grandfather was played by Denholm Elliot, an Englishman from Ealing, a suburb of London. I hope he had an authentic Welsh accent for this film. That's why I watched it, to tell the truth! I'm writing an animation film script about an old Welshman, his dog, a Faerie named Danu and a mouse named Aidan. The story unfolds in Madoc, a county in eastern Ontario named after the 12th century prince, Madoc ap Owain Gwynedd, who is thought to have discovered North America in 1170. Madoc came from the Gower Peninsual in Wales. If anyone can say if Elliot spoke with an authentic Welsh accent in this film, please do let me know. I'm also wondering about the the young Geraint (grandfather as a boy), played by Jessie McBrearty. Thanks. Oh and if anyone can suggest a popular Welsh dog name, I would certainly be grateful! :D

I'd like to know the name of the song that is sung in the movie. Unfortunately I don't know the name of it, but some of the words are "come, come to the cradle", it's a very beautiful song that I'd like to find. Thanks for any help. . . . Larry

So great that this is here! This has never been released in a British format video or DVD, so it is fun people can watch this from Wales and other parts of the UK!

Hello good people, Bloke Zed did not have a reply tab, so I will borrow yours, Bloke Zed it would be appreciated if you would keep your twisted mind and your dirty language to yourself, I wonder if you use that language around your parents and your wife and kids.

I know, we simply call them the "contrarians" - sadly, they're everywhere - all over every Yahoo comments section, as well. One could post something like, "My sister had a baby this morning" - and one or more anonymous people will down vote it, just because they are unhappy grumps. They'll dv the most innocuous, non controversial things. Yep. Contrarians. They're nothing nobodies. Ignore 'em.
