    @@davidpearlactorteacherbizman Thank you David for that. While normally it would be hard for me to understand why - but if I think about it it was likely because of his association with the so called devil with his music I begin to see why those people who don’t know his heart might feel some way about that. When we were out with KISS we would see and hear from the church groups out protesting their concerts outside the arenas carrying signs. It’s all basically the same kinda thing. Judging a book by its cover. They were simply making a business out of being a real life scary movie. You don’t see people protesting Halloween movies now do ya? Walk a mile in my shoes folks.

    I had the pleasure to party into the wee hours with Dio and Vinny back in ‘92 when they were w/ Black Sabbath. I was playing guitar in a touring band called ‘Lazarus’ and Sabbath happened to be playing the next night in the town we we were playing (Flint, Michigan) that night and those two (along with their tour manager) came to check us out. Ronnie and Vinny stayed late, signing autographs, while we were tearing down/packing up our equipment. Our singer, on a whim, asked Ronnie and the guys if they wanted to come back to our hotel room and party and Ronnie actually said, “Let’s roll!”. We smoked pot and drank beer until 7:00am. Ronnie sat between me and our singer on the hotel room dresser while Vinny sat on the edge of one of the beds trying to score with one of the many strippers we’d befriended earlier. He got shot down at every attempt. Lol. Ronnie was the most polite, wise and down-to-earth human beings that I have ever met. He truly enjoyed our company and answering any/every question we asked him. I’ll always cherish that night...er...morning. 😂

    saw dio and vinny back in the day, vinnie was on those classic dio albums "holy diver" and "the last in line". with dio until "lock up the wolves." a criminally underrated record with 18 year old rowan robertson.

  • @zendakk

    @zendakk

    3 жыл бұрын

    Lock Up The Wolves wasn't well-received at the time, apparently. No idea why, maybe because one or two tracks are "too commercial" (whatever that means). I think it's a pretty good album, some killer tracks, and Robertson's playing is really very impressive for his age. Very tasteful, nuanced.. stuff that usually comes with more years of experience.

  • @tomitstube

    @tomitstube

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@zendakk agree, 'lock up the wolves' was somewhat a departure from what dio had been doing, one of my favorite dio tunes is "between two hearts", rjd getting away from his usual mystical imagery and writing about real issues, 'between two hearts' is a beautifully written song about domestic abuse, and i love rowan's guitar work on it as well.

Ronnie's wife 'also the bands manager btw' didn't like it, and had Ronnie can Vivian. Vivian would later go on to join Def Leppard, but didn't want lead guitar. He just wanted to play, and it worked out for him nicely. Vinnie and Jimmy never left, who would leave their meal ticket. Ronnie wasn't all rainbows and unicorns. First, everybody knows the story of the first few albums, and Vivian getting fired, I knew all that. That’s the business side of it. The music business sucks, if your singer isn’t treating you like shit, then the managers or record co is ripping you off. That’s business. As I said, it must have been ok for Appice and Bain, as they played on several albums since then. I mean, do you really think Campbell makes as much as Joe Elliot or Rick Savage (founding members) in that band? Ms Vivian make plenty of $ off Dio, remember he did form a band named Last in Line. I don’t give a fuck who wrote the music, that’s RJD’s lyric. Find something else to do instead of calling people ignorant behind a computer big guy
