It’s neat to see Ron take over and Justine being away. And also I know it’s a small detail but it’s dark outside too. Love that the candles are lit on the mantle.

You guys are awesome. This is so true-to-life. I have a family story which was put pen-to-paper in times unknown but which declared my ancestral grandparents did this same thing. One wintry night in Larue County Kentucky in February 1809 a fellow pioneer knocked on their cabin door and said "his woman needed help". So, they went with him to help her deliver her baby. The baby was Abraham Lincoln. Thank you so much for this video. It really blessed me. 💖💖

A lovely and simple video but yet it says so much. Thankfully Justine took good care of you before she departed by leaving the food and instructions. By the looks of things, Ron, knows his way around the kitchen. Nice to see a prayer being said before eating.

Yesterday I told my sister about "Early American" and Frontier Patriot", opining that it seemed difficult to cook on a hearth. My sister blew me away by mentioning that our mom (with her first husband, and after he died and left her in poverty) had lived in a farmhouse in Texas that had not even a wood stove but a hearth, with the heavy iron cookware, the swinging doodads (what are they called?) that she hung the kettles, etc. from. No fridge, but there was a root cellar. This was in the late 1940s! After a while, she moved back east, married dad and her kitchen included a "Welbilt" gas cooker and a Frigidaire, which was definitely a step up. I mention this because I wish to honor our mom, who was one strong woman throughout her life.

Way back when, boys were taught everything girls were taught until they reached a certain age. They had to learn to sew, and mend, to cook simple things, and to tidy up after themselves. Men went on the hunt, the women stayed home. So the men had to know how to fend for their selves. Good job, Ron!

Another wonderful video, in your lovely cabin! You and Justine are still spoiling us, I see.😌 That would be a perfect home for me, as there were family members in West Virginia, when I was a little girl in the mountains there, who still lived in log cabins like that one.... that's been many years ago now, but I still remember it so well, and I miss it AND my family, more than anyone knows. I wouldn't care about lacking the modern conveniences, as I've done without them many times, and it never hurt me...as long as I have fresh water from somewhere, a good stock of food, chickens, a good garden and fruit trees, wood for a fire, my cooking utensils and my herbal and old timey remedies for ailments, my Bible and a few close family that are still alive, around me, I'd be perfectly happy. I hope the baby Justine is helping with, is doing well, along with the mother, and tell Justine that her friends on YT said hello.

We love to go to the Talledega National Forest and stay in a cabin there. We cook out and the smell of meat cooking outdoors in the cold air is intoxicating. We have a son who got married recently and they are taking after us in that they go to the same place to relax and unwind in the peace of the mountains. Hiking the trails, sometimes heavy fog at night or early morning, misty rain, oh, it is so nice.

Greetings from Ft. Sibley. We are awaiting the Missouri River to freeze. While the weather has been seasonable here the past week, we will most likely have a hard freeze in the next few days. Most have taken up winter camps and are laying in provisions. The game seems to be a bit scarce this year, so many will be relying up stores of potatoes, beans, wheat flour, cornmeal and dried fruits and vegetables. Well, take care and keep the fire burning.

My historical periods that I portray are American Civil War and early 20th century. When I was in Venturing Scouts I dabbled in French and Indian War but never got into Revolutionary War. At the time there was not that much of it around in Ohio in regards to living histories and reenactments. Keep them coming my friend!

It was the most westernard rev war battle, The of Fort San Carlos and Cahokia and we beat them on both sides! Had they took control of the mississippi the war may have been lost! Reminds me of when we spent summers on a island off the coast of Maine. No electric or running water but we did have a propane stove. If the fire place or the wood stove was going you didnt use it and just used them to save gas. Spent many hours sitting like you did just watching something cook. No phones or TV's just doing what you were doing. Today the power goes off for 5 minutes I want to kick on a generator. Sometimes I do miss it but every time I think of that old camp my first thought is solar power and a desalination set up. With power and endless water next would come the satellite internet and TV.... modern tech is a hell of a drug.

I like how Ron forgets there is already a lit candle on the table he could have used to light the candles on the mantle with. Instead he reaches his whole arm into the fire to light a candle lol.

I love Ron prays before eating. ❤ But It amazes me there is no refrigeration! How to keep meats from spoiling? That is, in a humble abode, the rich residences probably had resources. And is that butter? Did you get a Cow? Or lard?

You guys are such a cute couple. And Ron, I'm happy to see your take on the "Ron and Justine; A Love Story" The big house was nice but I like y'all being out on your own better. Love to hear about the new cabin you're filming in. The Q&A was amazing. I can't see a Cracker Barrel without picturing you two! Great work both of you!
