On this episode of Breaking Trail, Coyote has the opportunity to pal around with some Australian Dingos!
The Dingo is a feral native dog species in Australia. Well known as a part of Australian culture this iconic species is often misunderstood. Throughout their range they have many color variations ranging from dark brown to the traditional tan and white, and even almost pure white in the more mountainous regions.
Dingos should never be approached in the wild but on this day Coyote and the team were fortunate enough to meet some captive Dingos at the Billabong Sanctuary in Townsville!
Get ready to see a Dingo meet one curious Coyote!

    Wild dingoes are very timid will almost always run. Its the dingo cross or wild dogs a few generations old that are very dangerous. They are a real problem in some parts of australia have been bailed up a few times.

I can't find any videos of her, but being able to watch this video makes me so happy with all the memories we have of her. She unfortunately had to be put down today after 17 happy years of memories together. Thank you Coyote

    because you never trained patience and or/being calm before getting treats, thats one of the biggest reasons that most dogs "snap" at your hand with smaller treats, they havent had their eagerness or patience trained.. but even tho i have my own dog trained to the point even an infant could give him a treat and he would gently nibble it untill its away from the hand. and still with some treats he like so much even his patience is put to the test, turkey treats i can NEVER make him take gentle lmao thats his favorite

    gracie alvis they are dogs, wild ones,but still dogs. Theyr ancestors are wolfs like the wolf is the ancestor to all domestic dogs. The Dingo is not a natural predator in Australia ,it was introduced to the country to reduce the exploding numbers of rabbits and rats that was also introduced to Australia. That didn't work,as the rabbits got more babies faster than the dingo could hunt down. Then the dingo became a problem in its own as it spread across the country,and started to kill local wildlife and domestic livestock.So never introduce non native species,cause you never know if its gonna become a serious problem,both to you and your surroundings,native wildlife and plants .

    Taylorthe Pineapple well, the kind of are. Dingos have been companions to many aboriginal groups in Australia. The wongapitcha for instance held dingos as very important to the protection and mobility of women and children. With most groups I know of who had dingos as “pets”, they wouldn’t force the animals to stay with them. The pups would be taken from the wild, raised by humans until 1-2 years of age, and then let back into the wild to breed, their pups to be taken as the next generation of companions. This is why the dingo is still such an apex predator, and yet a good and friendly animals to humans. Their wildness must be respected however, as without socialisation with humans they are a notable danger to be wary of.

    For those who may be confused. Dingos are not domesticated dogs. There are some crossbred dingos who are house pets, but they are much like the American wolf dog. Great jumpers and escape artists. In the wild they act very much like African wild dogs and coyote packs. Overall they hunt Kangaroos, rabbits, foxes and even livestock. These are captive bred dingos so they are very friendly. In the wild they will chomp your leg and consider you food. Edit: to my last part, there are dingos who will ultimately attack you through a large majority will flee. It just depends if they are familiar with humans or not. Also yes the Dingo did eat her baby.

  • @emmadilemma00

    @emmadilemma00

    6 жыл бұрын

    This is all correct, except for the last part. For the most cases, Dingos have developed flight over fight and will be very cautious and run from humans and other animals significantly bigger than them that they do not consider prey.

    Connor Welch you do realize red heelers are bred with Dingos right? It's the same with blue heelers only red heelers look more like Dingos

    Shiz Honey Iced T red and blue heelers are the same breed “Australian cattle dogs” and yeah they have some Dingo in their history The kelpie does to

    Wicked Wildlife yes but the reason they get called red or blue is dependent upon if they look more like a dingo or not

  • @mc-kq6yd

    @mc-kq6yd

    Wicked Wildlife also they don't have some they were bred with Dingos for the explicit purpose of mixing the Dingo tactic of biting at the animals heels and so to get that their DNA is actually got a bit of Dingo due to them having the instinct to bite the heels of cattle and what not. In fact it is not uncommon to see breeders today breed Australian cattle dogs with Dingos in order to get more of the red variety of them as they sell for more

    Khalan Wheeler not just that they wanted their ankle biting instinct for herding animals like horses and cattle as they had tougher skin than most Aussie animals and it proved to be effective
