People, especially new chess fans, don't realise how good Ding is. He along with Magnus are two of the most consistent players in terms of maintaining their rating. Ding hasn't left the top 3 spot for years but now that he's the world champion, of course there are higher expectations especially considering the fact that he didn't dethrone Magnus in a match. Oh well, I just hope he does his best, however it goes.

#suggestion Hello Agad, thanks for covering this nice game! I'd like to make 2 suggestions: two mind-boggling games played by Gata Kamsky against non other than Shirov and Ivanchuk. Please have a look at them, you will probably enjoy them as much as I did! Kamsky vs Shirov, 2007, World Cup round 7 (final), 1-0. Very sharp Sicilian Defence, with crazy attacking from both sides, and white king side stepping all checks and advancing into the middle of the board. Ivanchuk vs Kamsky, 1994, Memory Amber Blind 3rd, 1-0. Blindfold game, with 2 spectacular consecutive knight sacrifices by black, and other surprises! Cheers!

After ...exd5 in the opening why not Qxd5? It looks like ...Nb4 can be met by Qxd8 Rxd8 c3. I don't see any really threatening Queen moves for black. Is simply ...Qxd5 Bxd5 Rd8 Bg3 actually good for Black? Sure Black has some activity but I don't see compensation for a pawn, it looks to me like white can play c3, Be3 or Bf4 and eventually push the Queenside majority Edit: The refutation is a combination of the two ideas, Qxd5 Bxd5 then Nb4 and black should be wining back his pawn with white in a very passive position

I'm no engine, but I think Qd5 offers a queen trade too early and allows Nc2 eventually to recapture the pawn and challenge the rook on a1; Bd5 looks better at first glance but I still worry about Black's queen side expansion potential, and the white Bishop will probably have to reposition again in a few moves time once challenged. I wouldn't have thought of c3 myself but it made sense as soon as I saw it and obviously Ding is a superhero so I bow to his wisdom, as we all should! 😊

@@eonlight89 Oh, ok. It's Greek vs Latin thing. Pronunciation is not the same. In slavic lingos the Greek origin name Alexander is both spelled and read differently. First off, let's replace that x with ks, so AlekSander. Where s is read like an S, not like a Z. Like how in English they say TZar, but slavs say TSar. So it reads like Aleks. And also the name is AleksandAr, like in Asthma, and not AleksandEr like in Edge. So, instead of AlekZandEr, we have AlekSandAr. From there Russian nicknames are names shortened with sha suffix for diminutive, where sh reads as Ш (Š) like in shrapnel or strudel. So for Mikhail it's Misha, for Mary it's Masha, for Alexei it's Alyosha etc. For Alexander it's taken from the middle, from that S. So for Alexander it's Sasha. That's how I understand it, but though slav I'm not Russian, so....

2nd comment: 2016 WCC - This is relevant to the 2023 WCC. Please agad cover the other decisive game of the Sergey Karjakin vs Magnus Carlsen 2016 WCC (Game 10, where that TALENTLESS patzer won). #suggestion What happened is that Magnus lost to Sergey AS WHITE in Game 8 but then compensated for a white loss with A WHITE WIN in Game 10. This is what happened to Ding Liren & Nepo for Games 2 & 4 of the 2023 WCC. Fun fact for Game 8 - 'After the game Carlsen was visibly uncomfortable and left the press conference before it began, potentially incurring a fine of 5% of his prize money to the organizers Agon, and a further 5% to FIDE.[59] FIDE released a statement the following day indicating that the penalty would be imposed.[61] The fine was reduced on appeal to 5% of the prize money (2.5% to Agon and 2.5% to FIDE).[62]' For Game 10: Wesley So has some interesting thoughts that DEFY STOCKFISH, as Wesley So did in 2021 St Louis Chess 9LX with the move that won the chessc*m 2021 move of the year award. (Wesley So thinks white 'still had an edge' even though the computer says black is slightly winning.) Some maths: Why doesn't a drawn match go to the player w/ more black wins (if any) s.t. Sergey Karjakin not Magnus Carlsen is 2016 WCC? Surely a black win is worth more than a white win. But you might argue 2 draws with black amounts to a win with black. Does it? No question about it in chess960, where there's no theory. In chess? Gestalt psychology says the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. --- Other suggestions: Women's chess A - Was Kg6 in Dina's 1st GM slaying game in Reykjavik sexism? Like looking down on Dina? B - Anna Cramling's dad beats Mikhail Tal. #suggestion C - Philippine women's chess #suggestion - WGM Janelle Frayna, the female Wesley So, upset Georgian GM (really GM not just WGM) Bela Khotenashvili at the 2022 world blitz. There's a 13-move UNDERPROMOTION puzzle here. [Variant "From Position"] [FEN "6k1/6b1/1p1P3p/6pP/3pPpP1/p2NqP2/6K1/5Q2"] 1. Qd1 a2 2. Qb3+ Kf8 3. d7 Qe2+ 4. Nf2 Ke7 5. Qd5 Kd8 6. Qe6 Bf6 7. Qe8+ Kc7 8. Qc8+ Kd6 9. e5+ Qxe5 10. d8=R+ Bxd8 11. Qxd8+ Kc6 12. Qa8+ Kb5 13. Qxa2 For some reason none of the Philippine channels except Kelvinllovejr even cover this game. LOL. But Janelle did cover the game where e drew against Nemo, so maybe Janelle will cover this game later on. P.S. Please help get Wesley So on Lex Fridman's podcast. See xcdhgq

"Sasha" is a shortened form of Alexander in many eastern european countries (similar to how Bob and Billy are short for Robert and William in english-speaking ones)
