Dinant is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Namur, Belgium. On the shores of river Meuse, in the Ardennes, it lies 90 kilometres (56 mi) south-east of Brussels and is situated 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of the border with France.
The name Dinant comes from the Celtic Divo-Nanto, meaning "Sacred Valley" or "Divine Valley". The Dinant area was already populated in Neolithic, Celtic, and Roman times. In the 11th century, the emperor Henry IV granted several rights over Dinant to the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, including market and justice rights.The first stone bridge on the Meuse and major repair to the castle, which had been built earlier, also date from the end of the 11th century.
The Citadel of Dinant is a fortress located in the Walloon city of Dinant in the province of Namur, Belgium. The current fort was built in 1815 on a site which was originally fortified in 1051 when the region was ruled by the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. The citadel overlooks the city of Dinant and the strategic Meuse river which runs through the town. It is open to the public. In 1940, during World War II, the citadel was unsuccessfully defended by French troops against the 7th Panzer Division of General Erwin Rommel. When the German forces were retreating in 1944, the town and citadel were severely damaged by allied bombing.

Dînant is not only known for its belfry notre dame de leffe on the cliff sides not far from the Meuse, it is also the Cradle of Beer 🍻 of the Trappist monks and the abbey that bears the same name. Whether Blondes, or fruity Ruby, triple... You can only appreciate them But be careful to always consume in moderation. Unlike this video ❤️ to watch with passion. Dînant n'est pas seulement connu pour son beffroi nôtre dame de leffe à flancs de falaise à quelques encablures de la Meuse elle est aussi le Berceau de la Bière 🍻 des moines trappistes et de l'abbaye qui porte le même nom. Leffe is an abbey beer but made by a different order then the Trappist monks. Not every abbey beer is a trappist but every Trappist is an abbey beer. Many foreighners are confused by that. real trappists beers have higher standards. trappist beers in Belgium are 1) Achel, 2) Westmalle, 3) Westvleteren 3) Orval 4) Rochefort 5) Chimay I know Leffe is well known with the tourists and it isn't a bad beer but to us it is pretty mainstream You can find it in every bar.certainly not high end like Westvleteren wich is expensive and hard to find even for us Belgians. Westvleteren is not to be confused with Westmalle the mother of all trapists My personal favourite Trappist is Rochefort. My personal favorite abbey beer is not Leffe but Sint Berdardus abt beer, then Tongerlo. Leffe is OK but we give it to foreighners because they heared about it in their country where it is pretty exclusive just like Duvel or Hoegaerden. But if you like Leffe why don't you try a beer that is somewhat simular next time such as Grimbergen (allso an abbey beer)
