I think Dimash can imagine how he would feel if he was suddenly made to go to war and leave his family. So every cell in his body is trying to portray how the young soldier would have felt. It must be a very difficult song for him to sing.

Thank you for your heartfelt reaction. This was done, LIVE, in Dimash's studio, during the pandemic, he filmed this and then submitted to the Tokyo Jazz Festival. The 2-string instrument is Kobyz, has a very haunting sound, and yes, it evoked so many emotions to us the listeners. The flute and the rainstick added to the sound effects of the song's setting. Dimash is a master at projecting the emotion of the song. He totally embodied the feeling and emotion of the song when he opened his mouth to sing. I have listened to this song so many times, but it still always give me goosebumps and chills. I can feel the sadness and the pain in his voice singing as that young soldier. Dimash always gives his all to each song. Love and respect for Dimash.

You can feel from this song the cry of the entire people, the cry of mothers seeing off their sons to war. The sound of a stream, a mountain breeze and memories of his native land are all that remains with the soldier. "Samal Tau" is the song of those conscripts. The area where the conscripts were from was called “Samal Tau”. This is in the North Kazakhstan region. The song contains the following words: “We’ve been walking tired, very tired for 15 days, we’ve almost reached Omsk. Left behind is Samal Tau, where I was born and raised. There is uncertainty and fear ahead. Fear is not for yourself, for your parents, your loved ones. Will I return home? History of this song: This is the time of the First World War. The Russian Empire needed additional strength, soldiers. Therefore, on June 25, a decree was issued on the mobilization of the foreign male population aged 19 to 43 for defense and logistics work. What does it feel like to leave your loved ones and participate in someone else's war? This tragic folk song

The most tragic thing is to leave your elderly parents at this time. if we, the younger generation, are afraid to leave our mother for one night (we are very worried about our parents). then I understand their feelings a little

👏👏🏿👏🏿👏🏽👏🏾👏🏻👏🏼🎶🎶♥️♥️🇧🇷🇧🇷

Thanks for reacting to this version. I think it's probably my favourite version! It's so neat how the kobyz and other instruments can make you feel like you are out in the wild when the whole thing takes place in a room. And just like we are out in the wilds in our minds, the singer is looking back at his homeland in his mind. 🇨🇦

This was from Dimash's home studio, with natve instruments --some gifts from Dears--on the wall. You can see all the SMOKE you want, but as close as we can get to understanding the inner Dimash is to listen and watch this Kazakh boy, sitting on a piano bench in his stocking feet, singing in his native language, a folk song about a Kazakh boy......❤

Nice reaction!! Thanks! Have read that the instruments at the beginning are the sounds heard at a Kazakh village in the Great Steppes of Kazakhstan. The howling wolf is answered by the barking village dog . We hear the nearby stream , the rustling grasses, the cries of the night birds .

G'day from Sydney. While all versions of this song are excellent, this performance will always be special for me. The Kobyz and Flute (and Rain Stick) just work so well in this, and his presentation was just so pure. This was done in 2020 remotely because of Covid, so Dimash recorded/performed it in his home studio. Great reaction.

Me too. Just Besotted. My husband isn’t a dear but he has organised for us to go to four overseas concerts and my fifth will be in Istanbul. He thinks Dimash is an excellent performer but it just isn’t what he likes to listen to, he likes the really old blues singers mostly. So he does actually like When I’ve Got You which has a bluesey feel. And he likes vampires lol.

Thank you so much for reacting to this incredible performance. You are so right about everything you said...including the meaning of the instruments. Such depth conveyed in beautiful simplicity evokes the soul in a way you don't see too much today. The tragic sacrifice of people forced to leave their beloved land and families to be put on the front lines with little to nothing to fight with and die for a cause not his own. Dimash and those instruments takes us there to that painful point in time in 1916 and the tragedy of the Kazakh people. They have only been a free nation since the mid 1990's. Dimash loves his people and takes pride in letting the world know of the beauty of his country and people. There is another performance in a similar vein.. although its live on stage. For the Armenian people...he spontaneously decided to sing " I'd Die For The Wind in the Mountains ". Considering he just barely learned the song the day before and wasn't sure he would sing it. So glad he did. Thanks again for your down to earth reaction...as always. Peace
