A Chinese reactor said he couldn't believe how accurate Dimash's pronunciation was, he said it was 99% and he sounded like a fluent speaker. He went on to say that this song which is over 20 years old has been sung by many Chinese singers. However Dimash's version in his opinion is by far the best, and it wasn't surprising that people in the audience were crying.

You need to listen to Ikenaide. Dimash sings different words to the same melody, and it is Japanese. It means, please don’t go. He sang it for the Tokyo jazz festival 2021 and it is stunning. Really different.

This was the 4th episode from The Singer copetition in China in 2017. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among other countries. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. He was just 22 years old at the time. Autumn Stong was the first song he ever sang in Mandarin. He was so grateful to his Chinese audience for welcoming him so warmly that he wanted to say thank you in this way. He only had a week to learn the lyrics and the correct pronunciation. That was very important to him. A really tough job. From the reaction of the audience you can see that he has mastered it with flying colors. Many Chinese reactors also said that his pronunciation was almost perfect. The song is very emotional and I recommend to take the link on Gloria Wu’s channel as it shows the background story. Autumn Strong is a song he always sings in his concerts. Every time it is a very emotional moment. If you want to see the same song but another video where he met his idol Jackie Chan, here is the link. He is a big fan of Jackie Chan and war terribly excited and couldn’t sleep all night. They became good friends and Dimash later even sang a soundtrack for his film Vanguard. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d5N_rNWHY8qdlaQ.html If you happen to be at The Singer competition then I would recommend Daybreak I highly recommend you also to watch the version with the story behind on the Gloria Wu channel and then the one from his Bastau concert. It was the 8th performance of this competition. I don’t think there are copyright issues, because the videos on this channel are already edited. I think you will appreciate the Bastau version even more if you’ve seen The Singer version before. As somebody mentioned in a comment, I totally agree that it is always very frustrating when reactors jump on the Bastau version and don’t know the sad story of this song and don’t even try to activate the subtitles. I can understand that a lot of Dears prefer reactions to this version because it is just incredibly more powerful. In my opinion, however, it loses at bit of its impression, if you don’t know why he sings, the way he sings. This song tells a very sad but true story. You really have to watch this with subtitles. It’s really important to know what the song is about. In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. I heard him say in an interview that it was very painful throughout the song, that his throat feels like shredded glass but he didn’t want to disappoint the people who stand behind him and so he pulled himself together and went on stage. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. He made very good friends there and many friendships still exist today. After the performance he lost his voice again. It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it. The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. So emotional and heartbreaking. Maybe you can do both together. Many reactors do and so you can see the difference between this two performances. In both versions I always cry my eyes out. I don’t know why I have to cry more. Because of the story or the fact, that he was in such pain and performed anyway because he didn’t want to disappoint the audience. Both version were in the same year 2017. Gloria Wu: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p4x7qJmvl6i_e84.html However, this video has a dropout towards the end. So don’t panic. Nothing is broken😁 What I love about the Chinese competitors is that they don’t behave like competitors. Everyone wishes everyone luck. Everyone watches the other’s performance. Clap, sing along. In my opinion, no one begrudges the success of another. They might not have taken Dimash seriously at first, but that quickly changed after SOS. Through ist honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly. Contacts that still exist today. Especially to Terry Lin. Just for fun, Terry adopted Dimash and Dimash named him Papa Lin. Do not be fooled. Terry is older than he looks. He was 50 years old then. They performed together on stage and sang Dimash’s song Unforgettable Day together. They visit each other when they can and send each other birthday greetings. Thank you for your interest (if you’ve read it this far). You may want to see, or even react to, videos that were filmed behind the scenes of the competition. They are very interesting if you want to get to know Dimash from a different, more private side. And they’re pretty funny as he doesn’t take himself too seriously and he’s always joking. Bastau version: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJ-OtqyjfNKqZpc.html Greetings and love from Germany👋❤️

The sound (specifically on this video) is slightly slow. Great song and performance. Dimash is only 22 years old. Another amazing performance is " Daybreak " from the Bastau concert, Kazakhstan, 2017. A Chinese song based on a true story, very sad but also full of hope. The story in brief: A two-year-old child loses his parents in a cable car accident. Chinese singer Han Hong wrote the song, with the lyrics through the eyes of a child. She adopts the orphan.❤❤❤

One of many beautiful songs in Mandarin Chinese that Dimash sings, there’s a different feel to the Mandarin songs. Dimash composed War and Peace, and although he isn’t fluent in Mandarin, the lyrics are in Mandarin. Such a beautiful language when sung. Matt and Chels, we have definitely missed your Dimash reactions ❤, there’s a lot of new songs, one is a composition of Dimash called The Story Of One Sky, he also wrote the script for the video, extremely powerful, so emotional and the rocker belts at the ends, just incredible. If you choose to watch that, just know that everything vocal that you hear is Dimash. A message for Peace to Humanity.

Dimash has a great talent, I've been following him for 7 years and I've seen how much he's evolved and continues to do so. For me he is the best singer today, very complete because he has been studying music for more than 20 years, he can sing in several languages, he has songs in various musical genres, he can play various musical instruments and he does excellent things like the piano and the dombra, to name a few. But what I most admire in this young singer is the kind of person he is, a human being with the soul of an angel, and he has made it clear in many of his interviews. It is also relevant all the concerts to a full house that he always does where he sings for more than 3 hours and gives himself completely to his audience. Please add these to your list: “The Show Must Go On” kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z519k7KDkcLUl7Q.html and “Be With Me (Official Video)” kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2SH0dClesmvhbA.html Greetings from Venezuela

Dimash sings this in his concerts and even more beautifully. He also does a version of it in Japanese although the lyrics were different. Ikanaide was performed by Dimash in studio live for the Tokyo Jazz Festival during the pandemic. You should consider doing it to see him standing there up close and personal in studio. I think I stopped breathing during parts of the song, especially at the end. He soared and then he just dropped it down.

Dude, things weren't just really tense back then. This was world war two ok? The Japanese army was brutal. They slaughtered 100s of thousands of Chinese and various other Asian peoples. Civilians, women, children...wiped them out. The brutality of the Japanese army was part of the reason why the decision was made to use the newly developed atomic bomb against them. It was common belief that the Japanese army would never surrender otherwise to end that part of the war. The actress was brought up on espionage charges in China and was very lucky to escape with her life. She did in fact return to China many years later. This was a very well known song to Dimash's audience. As you can tell from the audience reaction, it is a very emotional song. The translation here by Gloria Wu is overly simplistic and extremely weak at best as noted by many Chinese reactors. Dimash learned his first attempt singing Manadarin phonetically in one week for the contest. His worries were unwarranted as it's been said his accent and pronunciations of Mandarin were extremely good. It remains my favorite of all his performances as what it lacks in his vocal gymnastics is more than replaced by the textures and emotional connection he made to both the song and his Chinese audience. His performance, imo, is beautifully perfect. Dimash performed the Japanese version of this song, Ikanaide, a couple of years ago. After the 24 week competition, Dimash remained in China for the better part of the next 3 years. After the show's 14 week run, Dimash released a cd that went platinum in under 1 minute and triple platinum under 1 hour. The show was a springboard for Dimash's career on a worldwide stage. Ty for sharing. Excellent reaction. Mark
